Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

RTX global illumination @ 4K 90 FPS... now that's more like it. Not directly comparable to some of what's been seen already (BF5 etc), but interesting nonetheless.

I'm quite sure as devs get their teeth in to RTX and start to explore its potential, we will see far greater performance and ability to do some nice looking things.

Interesting interview, but these are the important take-aways:

"RTX support is not required for our GI solution, it provides additional functionality/quality, and is available only with Vulkan support." & "As far as I understand, DLSS is not yet available in Vulkan API."

In other words, it's their work with Vulkan which is responsible for all this magic (as we have seen with Doom et al) and this RTX GI = HBAO+ 2.0.

Don't hold your breath on better performance when implemented for other aspects: "Enhancing shadows and, especially, reflections is tempting. However, it will depend on the available performance budget for the game."

Valid but it's all still encouraging on some level nonetheless I think.

It's encouraging for those people that don't have a Turing card.

I think the article is being misread. RTX is still being implemented, it "provides additional functionality/quality"... to say it's not required for the GI solution isn't saying that it will look identical on other GPU's that aren't Turing.

I am not misreading it at all. It's barely using any Ray Tracing, no reflections, shadows, AI and in a scene with nothing happening. And they compared against a scene with GI off, whereas they have a GI solution that doesn't need RTX, so maybe they should have compared it against that instead.

Well there's assumption here that what the dev is saying is all BS and pomp for the sake of what I don't know... it's not like they have any vested interest in RTX. If it offers nothing, they won't utilise it. They clearly say it can achieve better quality, so we shall see what comes of it all and if that's true or not. Personally I'm encouraged by things like this... and while it's obvious nothing is certain, it seems many people choose to dump all over RTX at every available opportunity before we even know what the future is going to bring.

FWIW Amazon UK are expecting stock (Ti) for MSI on 24th Oct so i guess it might be similar for OCUK, they also mentioned EVGA expected 31st

I don't believe that to be honest. I never saw the 24th on any MSI model and I checked every day, I received an email today saying mine will be dispatched anywhere between November 10th and December 20th. Another competitor who I have a preorder with has said that they don't anticipate any stock before the end of this month except Gigabyte models.

I've also contacted MSI twice who told me that competitor are garbage and not worth preordering from. MSI also mentioned stock could be flowing out quicker after the 15th.

I've asked and they sent a message to the buying team and they got back to me saying they expect stock of the MSI gaming x trio on 1st November and Gigabyte Gaming OC on 22nd October. EVGA is 31st October, so I think by the end of the month there may be plenty enough availability across most retailers in the UK if that's a barometer.
