Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

I am one of those people :D

Although I did not pay 80-100% more as I went from a 1080TI FE to a 2080TI FE, the aftermarket cards are over priced, too big and fugly :D

It wasn't a dig by the way!

It's just that this generation has seen the biggest price increase from previous gen for not as much improvement in performance for as long as I can remember.

I meant it in the context that it's setting a precedent to GPU manufacturers that they can charge a lot more for not as much improvement in the future. Which will trickle down the product range at all price points.

Over here in the US, 1080ti’s are $800-850, whereas a 2080ti is $1200. While it’s still 50% more cost, it certainly makes the choice easier.

That's not the original 1080ti price though, that's it's EOL price due to them not being produced. The 1080Ti FE was not released at $800+ , wasn't it $699?

When I swapped over from the 1080ti to the 2080ti it easily beat the OC`ed 1080ti in while running at stock, then when I OC`ed the 2080ti the lead just got bigger, the only cards quicker are the TitanV or other 2080Ti :D

I'm not disputing the 2080ti isn't faster than a 1080ti, I was merely pointing out that the jump in performance for the price paid is disproportional this generation than the performance improvement between the 6 series to 7 series, the 7 series to 9 series and the 9 series to 10 series. There was only a $30-$50 price difference between those each generation, for 30%-50% performance improvement. This series it's significantly more than $30-$50, for less or at best the same.

Agree with that yes.

My 1080FE was around £550, the 1080TI FE was a bit more and then the 2080TI FE does take a bit of a jump.

What's more concerning is people saying they didn't buy a RTX card for the ray tracing features, just purely for performance increase over previous gen

So people were happy to pay nearly 80-100% more money purely for a 30% performance increase (1080ti to 2080ti) eek :( That's a scary prospect for the future

Cos as I sayed I want to upgrade for a while and yes i just wanted a faster card I got one not worried about ray tracing means nothing to me .

FE is overpriced, but lets compare a FE to say a EVGA 2080TI xc2 (icx cooling) $1300
2080ti FE $1200

Less than 10% price increase for much better cooling, better monitoring, vendor with in place upgrade system. I would say the FE is worse value and more overpriced even tho it has a lower capital expense to purchase. The heatsink is more than twice the size on the evga unit.

That smidge improvement, comes at an IQ loss by the looks of it.

Wasn't that the point though? It figures out either where your eye isn't looking or what hasn't changed much from frame to frame and then "cheats"?

Stills are always going to show it in a bad light - I guess you need to see it moving to make an informed decision.
