Geforce Pascal Review thread

What exactly do we count as mid range? From the sounds of it people on here think mid range is what most people would call bottom 2. There are 7 cards classes from nvidia for gaming they go - 950, 960,970, 980, 980ti, TX.

So from what meaning do we get mid range from cos for me a 980 is mid range just like the 1080 is going to be.

I keep seeing references to a theoretical 1080 Ti, but what are the odds that one makes it to market?

Close to 100%

The 1080 GTX is already selling for Ti money, and as I understand it GP100 yields are low and Nvidia needs all the cores it can get to fulfill orders for compute/supercomputer and professional clients.

The 1080 will lower in cost to make way. GP100 almost certainly wont be used in the 1080ti, that will be GP102.

Unless Vega out-competes the 1080 GTX then it would appear to make more sense to just keep selling GP104 cores for Ti money.

If Vega cant beat the 1080 then AMD will leave the GPU business forever i expect. If your biggest high-end chip can't beat the competitors mid-sized chip then your technology is just not competitive.

I think I will hold this time and wait until BF1 comes out. Atm, a single Nano gives enough performance for my casual BF4 and Diablo 3 @ 1440p. :)

Havent been keeping that up to date with the pascal information. But gotta say the fps figures for 2560x1440, (my own res) are pretty impressive compared to a 980ti.

Yes, it's a massive performance increase over my 780. When I saw the reviews I was gobsmacked. I was even more gobsmacked by the price though, it's a gigantic leap in price. It's almost twice what I paid for my card.

True. In two minds whether too buy at launch or wait a month or two.

By making the Ti and Titan range nvidia itself made the xx80/xx70 the mid range, and £500+ is a stupid price that many people think is fine due to frog in the boiling pot syndrome. Here's hoping the 1070 avoids the price premium as it wont be good enough for the rabid speed fans.

25/30% is normal. Get over it. We all knew what to expect :p

They could easily have released the TI right now but they will want to take advantage of the lack of competing products for as long as possible. I don't see an issue with that, the gtx980 was the same. October will roll around soon enough and baam the 1080TI will be whipped out sooner than you can say vega.

its not very insightful comparing stock against overclock.

Stock vs stock the 180 is 30-40% faster than the 980Ti and 65-80% faster than the 980 it is replacing. That is a very impressive jump in performance.

Check his post again, he IS comparing a factory overclocked 980Ti vs overclocked 1080 and the 1080 is only 15% faster. Push that G1 Gaming 980Ti to max OC and that performance all but disappears.

That chart shows 1080 is getting on average 6% faster OC compared to stock 1080 at 4K. This is Fury X level of "overclockers dream".

I fully expected ~30% stock vs stock over 980Ti, but those overclocking results (repeated in other reviews) are nowhere near as impressive as Maxwell.

GTX1080 is clearly for 4K & above PC gaming that's where the real difference kicks in! These will sell out fast even if £700 & new GTX 980 Ti stock will have to be sold fast so look out for some good bargains on those in the next few days if not later this week ;)
This dude from PC Master Race website has GTX 1080 already & put up some 4K videos

I'm on 3440 X 1440 so any extra is a bonus...
Ill probably be sticking with 1440 gsync for the time being. The latter feature i couldnt do without tbh. Ill likely skip the 1080 and wait for the ti model. Current 980ti is no slouch at that res in what i play tbh.
