General Courier Moans Thread

My front door/porch sticks out from the rest of the house so that there is a small sloped roof above the door before it meets the main house's exterior wall. Hermes (before they became Evri) once chucked a parcel onto that roof, but the calling card the driver put through my door was "in the porch". IN the porch. As in, IN, not above the porch. So I was looking around all of the usual places for it like the bins, behind the shed, under the garden table and so on. 90 minutes later, I was far away enough from the house that I could now see the small parcel sitting on the roof above my door and I had to use a step ladder to get it down :p

Funny this thread is here. The last 5 days my order on Aliexpress has said "Out for delivery" for the previous few steps - yet it's still in China.

Love their early stuff especially on vinyl!

Had the unfortunate amazon delivery service deliver a parcel from a bike shop. Amazon delivery website didn't let me log in with my amazon account saying email not recognised, so i couldn't reschedule or list a safe place, and i cba to make another account from my phone. Tracking went from delivering one day, to out for delivery a day earlier, 5-8pm delivery, to delivered at 1pm. Got home at 5pm to find wet parcel up against door, couldn't be more obvious for the taking from a passer by.

Last week, I was due a dpd delivery at 11.30-12.30. Didn't come. Checked the site and it was marked as delivered and received.

Rang up, causing much panic. Driver had gone miles away and failed to deliver there. Finally delivered at 4.30, after further phone calls.

No real problem in the end, but not good practice.

Tell me your pron script without telling me you write pron for a living.

Second time now - something being delivered via UPS. Refresh tracking to see "We tried to deliver, but you weren't home, so it's going to a nearby 'access point'". This regardless of the fact that the first time I was home all day, and the second time, I could've let them in tot he main door from where I was, but no actual ring or attempt to get into the building.
Yeah UPS are the worst for basic transparency you'd expect, such as....tracking without having to give up your first born.

Some Ubiquiti gear from Netherlands had the classic "we tried to deliver", but they didn't and then dropped it off somewhere.....all I had was a one word, which I gathered was a local shop precinct. Had to Google around various random forums to find which shops accepted UPS drop off points in the precinct. Walked into a local laundrette, sort of asked in a vague way about a package and hey that had it. Turned out the guy in the shop didn't scan it in, so when he handed it over he scanned it twice - once to confirm he had it and the next to confirm I'd handed it over. Ffs. Should have been UPS responsibility to scan it on at drop off point.

I avoid UPS at all costs.

Had my first real issue with DPD last week.

Parcel due to be delivered while I was WFH, no knock, nothing on the doorbell then a couple of hours later I get a "Parcel refused" update.

Strange, checked the little pin on the delivery address in the app and for some reason it was sat on number 6 rather than number 6 myhouse terrace which are both on the same road.

Weird considering they both sit in different postcodes and they had the right one but fine got on the chat and let them know they said it would be out for delivery the next day again anyway and to add the What3Words and a house picture to my account in the app.

Literally no way they can go to the wrong house with both of those bits of information, but for the next two days again nothing at my door and more "Parcel refused" updates.

After the 3rd fail I asked their CS to confirm I was now refusing delivery as for whatever reason the driver couldn't/wasn't willing to deliver to me and could they return it to sender, "Sorry only the sender can ask for it to be returned" after a bit of backwards and forwards in broken English about the infinite loop of refusing parcels and redelivery if the recipient couldn't ask for it to be returned I gave up and contacted the seller. Reshipped by RM received 2 days later.

Not a major issue but a pain none the less.

My biggest issue (in terms of couriers!) is hermes collection.

I just don't use them anymore because last 4 parcels have sat in the lockers for days before being collected. I even tried a locker 5 miles away and same thing.

Now I use Royal mail for anything small/medium as they collect from door and are always good. Easy to claim from 1 time I've had a missing parcel.

And ups for big stuff as depot is 2-3 miles away

So hermes have lost a customer, but I get the feeling they prefer the big customers anyway as delivery is always fine
Used Royal mail collection for amazon returns but they don't really seem to be set up for it as each time the postie arrives, looks at the size of the parcel and says I'll bring the van back in a few hours.

Must be a right pain for them.

The industry is suffering from years of reducing cost and increasing targets. If you don't open your door quickly or have any obstacles in the way of a delivery then couriers won't like you as you've put them behind schedule.

I don't mind couriers they turn up at sensible times i.e the afternoon the postie on the other hand turns up early and gets me out of bed and when I'm slightly less than delighted to be dragged out of bed to be handed my parcel he gets the hump unlike couriers who come and go and work all over posties have a regular round and expect to build up a rapport. Working shifts can be a hassle at times

:p
Ah the classics. Hermes tossed a package over the fence into the backyard into a puddle at my mothers place they also managed to "disappear" a games console to me. Logged as delivered, but who to? Someones lock-up at a guess

I had a large parcel containing a motherboard and a PSU to be colected by Tracked48 and it was just a regular postie and she told me she had to lug it up a couple of flights of stairs for this block and the next as she still had to deliver the regular mail

Well, something mentioned in this thread happened with my UPS parcel. I suspect they saw my place was a flat and just took it straight to an access point (miles away). If they'd let me change the day of delivery or give the door code and a safe place this wouldn't have been necessary. Ironically, Evri managed to leave another parcel (which I specified for delivery tomorrow!) in a safe place.

Had my first Amazon/courier issue although it's not clear which one is to blame

Bought something and half of it was missing. Did a returns via Amazon and replacement is coming this week.

Admittedly this is the first time this has happened with over 15 years Amazon shopping... Interestingly the replacement is coming via Amazon courier whereas the original came via a 3rd party courier.

When I worked for a back office role for a call centre for a mobile network - I had a customer with a similar situation. She lived in a converted school split into 5 flats. Her address was 3 Old School House, Street name. Her bills were sent to 5 Street name - which is about half a mile away - it was a long road with about 700 houses and 8 postcodes.

I kept changing her address manually and overnight the system changed it back to 5 Street Name.

Had escalated the customer's details to technical team and they said its RM's problem of not updating the addresses to accommodate the 5 flats' addresses. I checked on RM postcode finder and wasn't listed.

Apart from my neighbour, I refuse to let anyone down my street to take in my parcels. Four years ago, I had a parcel attempting delivery. Note from courier said it’s at a house number TEN doors away!

I went to the address four at reasonable times - no answer.

Popped in a note to them asking that I’m at home at these times as I have visited your home a few times and no answer.

In the end I contacted the seller and they posted the replacement. I was on annual leave that week

Sent a parcel out (ebay order, sent by Evri) and has been delivered back to me with "SENDER" printed on the label. Does anyone know if customers can just go into the tracking and cancel the order before delivery or would Evri have done this themselves due to some delivery issue? I'm guessing not but just want to be sure before I tell them I'm going to attempt to send it again.

All it says is "Return to sender requested" then "Delay due to address access" in the tracking.

Code:
1 Nov 2023 9:13am - Due to be delivered today

31 Oct 2023 1:26pm - Delay due to address access <-----------

31 Oct 2023 1:26pm - Return to sender requested <-----------

31 Oct 2023 9:56am - Delay - please allow 24 hours

31 Oct 2023 7:07am - On its way to the courier

30 Oct 2023 9:46pm - At the customers local depot

30 Oct 2023 7:21pm - Entered the Hermes network

Evri tracking on their website isn't much help either and just says "We're sorry, your parcel has been delayed. We're working to get it on its way on the next working day and we'll let you know once it's out for delivery".

The best one I had was a parcel delivered to a house with the same number on a different street. I had figure it out myself from the photo as the courier wouldn't tell me where my own stuff was "because data protection".

Last year I had an empty phone box delivered from Amazon by an Amazon driver. At some point along the line it was stolen.

Fair play to the guy though, the things weigh a ton and are difficult to handle in a mid size van..... :)

On my local FB page, sometimes get people posting does anyone recognise this house? They had a parcel expecting to be delivered but photo of parcel at destination is not their home.

Sometimes it’s just the front door step and bottom of front door. Other times there’s something distinctive such as a plant pot, stone ornament etc.

Sometimes someone replies “it’s down (x street) as recognise the fox ornament”
