That letter was a joke which was spun by the Tories.

Byrne said the message was meant in jest. "My letter was a joke, from one chief secretary to another," he said. "I do hope David Laws's sense of humour wasn't another casualty of the coalition deal."

You forgot "vote of no confidence" on the poll list...

... I'm quite shocked that so many on this forum are still willing to vote for the conservatives this round.

I'm pretty disgusted that anyone would vote ukip, let alone them running 2nd in the poll on this forum... wtf is wrong with you racist nutbags?

Surely that should apply across the board and in reverse if it is a justifiable reason?

Net tax payer = vote
Not a net taxpayer != vote.

Or is is an inconsistent position?

I never said anything about being a net tax payer, simply the capacity[/] to have a full-time job and thus the capacity to pay income tax/national insurance.

Only allowing net taxpayers to vote would be a recipe for tyrany.

A blunt statement but seems to be hitting the nail on the head. Just remember that this forum is not representative of the UK electorate at large, so take some solace in that fact. ;)

The school leaving age is rising to 18 this year. Although you can continue in training rather than education.

AIUI, anyone over the age of 10 can be "tried as an adult" but this is only done in exceptional circumstances and anyone from 10 to 17 appears at a youth court by default unless they're being jointly prosecuted with an adult. In my view, no child should ever be tried as an adult but that's a discussion for another day.
Ohh I agree, it's very muddles & inconsistent.

With the increasing school leavers age being 18 then that would seem to be a reasonable justification. I would just disagree of the idea of people who are essentially 'let out into the world' without suffice rights to have their political needs addressed.

Indeed, so many on this forum have lurched so far right I often find myself debating on the same side as life-long conservative party voters on many issues.

So no votes for anyone over 65 then (pensioners aren't working and many aren't capable of getting a job)

Its ridiculous to have 16 years old voting, but I guess it's an easy way to gain votes from people of an impressionable age (especially those who can shout the loudest).

Funny how we don't consider 16 year old mature enough to drink alcohol but are some how sensible enough to partake in deciding how the country should be run.

But then I am fundamentally opposed to the general public voting anyway, it is a scary prospect that uneducated, media brain-washed people can vote for their own self-interest rather than the good of the country. People should only be allowed to vote on policies, not parties, and only after proving that they can make rational, intelligent and sometimes altruistic decisions backed by evidence and facts rather than Daily Mail headlines.

Agreed entirely, I consider myself fairly centralist, and on economic issues I can slide left or right but I'm firmly left on social issues. However, on this forum one gets accused of being a communist at the mere whiff of mentioning something like public transport should be improved at tax payers expense.

The forum used to be fairly evenly split between labour and Tories with a slight conservative lean, along with significantly above average BNP supporters and other racist loonies. Now things have gone so far right the late Marget Thatcher seems left-wing and the BNP supporters have grown in numbers and the the UKIP "we're not racist but..." flag.

How the heck a computer and tech forum can be so right-wing I cannot understand. These polls prove one thing only, whenever there is any debate on OCUK about the economy, society, benefits, immigrants etc then it can be completely ignored because there simply is zero balance to this forum.

Just an aside, but I find it amusing that the poll is set so that it finishes on April 10th rather than May 7th, and we cannot change our votes.

That's because a new thread will open after April 10th to see how the votes will change as the weeks go on.

Funnily enough, another board I of which I am a member is pretty rabidly left-wing and you get denounced for any deviation from the One True Path. I guess like gathers with like.

1 We can still remember how bad the Looney left Labour did last time.
2. UKip are not racist only looney left voters use that when they cant win an argument

Vote Labour get SNP running the show
Vote Ukip get a say in europe

Er, what?

Are you trying to say vote UKIP to have a say on whether or not we leave Europe? Or are you saying we can trust the party with the lowest attendance record to the European parliament?

To the first point - Labour are not going to offer a referendum, so if the vote for UKIP splits the Tory vote and allows Labour in, how exactly do you propose that gives anyone a "say in Europe"? If the second, well the UKIP record in the EU parliament speaks for itself, as does their voting policy which is often to the detriment of the UK.

Still hoping you can furnish me with some clarification :).

Hi guys, just thought I'd check in to see what's going on...

Oh, apparently I'm a selfish, racist nutbag who has been brainwashed by the Daily Mail.

Yeah, you've pretty much nailed that. I'll be on my way then.
