General Filament Chat

Urg. One of my friends sons has asked me to print him a Bluey that can go on his cupboard. So many shades of blue...
Got to put a £64 odd order in with Bambu it seems as Sunlu are currently completely useless for PLA colour shades.

...and all the ones you buy will be slightly wrong. For 'tis the way of these things.
I would say that Sunlu haven't got any because they've supplied it all to Bambu but I recently heard that Bambu had got Sunlu to set up supply, teach them all the tricks and then taken it in-house.

I would expect Bambu Matte sky blue to be pretty close.

This can be useful although many of the brands are hard to come by here: https://filamentcolors.xyz/library/color_family/blue/

That and god only knows what else has been through your hotend. Give it 20 years and we'll know if it's all a fuss over nothing or the next asbestos. I try not to roll the dice until then. Paranoid? Yeah, possibly *shrug*
 
That and food safe containers are cheap as chips and come in all shapes and sizes already.

I’m not sure there is much value in designing your own and printing it. Feels like an exercise in over engineering a problem that probably doesn’t exist.
 
There's plenty of stuff that steps over the line (if said line is meaningful) or even dances along it.
For example, I run an ultrasonic distance finder in the top of my coffee machine to check the fill level. There's no way of telling the level without pulling it out and taking the top off otherwise and it will just cut the mains power when it trips the mag switch otherwise - which is just really irritating. The ultrasonic is probably not good safe and the PETG plate it's mounted on isn't either...but it's far more damaging to my sanity if if bails out on me misway through the morning shot - which is of course where it happens, without fail.
Neither is something you could sell to someone because of the maybes and the unknowns but my health, my balance of risk. PLA wouldn't be a suitable substitute for this regardless of it's safeness.

Now look instead at things like drawer organisation. You've seen things like Gridfinity for workshop drawers. Similar things are done for kitchen drawers too. Maybe it's not directly food contact but if all your cutlery is in near permanent contact with the stuff, it could conceivably cause a problem. Food safe PLA here would be a good fit...but I need to succeed in moving house before I worry about that one! :D
 
I was going to order some more bambu petg hf but looks to have been replaced by petg basic. That however seems to be pretty glossy and I always prefer matte finish. Has anyone found a good alternative or is the petg basic ok?
 
I've ended up with a load of the BL PLA Basic, refills mainly, how does it compare to Polymaker/AnyCubix/SunLu as they're the ones I usually get.
 
Cool, well, I've ended up with 16 rolls of the stuff :D
I'll keep some and ebay the rest I recon lol
 
Does anyone use Sunlu PLA+ 2.0 High Speed filament in a Bambu Labs printer?
I'm struggling to create a filament profile as currently I'm getting a really minor amount of stringing with my prints.

It's what's putting me off buying more Sunlu filament. I'd buy eSun but they seem to mostly do cardboard spools, which I dislike due to the added faff when using with an AMS. Also Sunlu do multipacks, which are nice, but not ideal if I can't get them to print nicely.
 
I can't actually remember, I think I did. I remember printing like 12 little rectangles.

EDIT: Actually that might have been to get a smoother finish on the top surface.
