Touch over budget, it worth it though?
Last tv did me for 7 years!

Well, B9 is £1300. Whether it has 7 years in it, hard to say. I have an XF90 and that's going for about £800. The only thing you'd really miss is HDMI 2.1 once new consoles/GPUs land but that's something to consider. I'm personally happy with mine and would buy it again if I had to choose, over the OLED, especially for the price but regardless (I don't like headaches, TV baby-sitting etc). If you really want HDMI 2.1 then either going for one of last year's models which have it (like the aforementioned OLEDs) or waiting for something like the Sony XH90 another month or so, which is supposed to be $999 (and I assume roughly £1000-1100 for UK) which is more or less a bit of an improved XF90 but with HDMI 2.1 to boot.

Well I fired the C9 up last night. Took a while to assemble safely by myself. Was scared of breaking the screen - it is so thin!
Also the HDMI ports were on the opposite to my Sammy grrr which required a bit of cable re-routing.

Played Spiderman on the PS4 Pro and was very impressed. Took a while getting used to the picture when compared to the NU7400 panel as everything just looks more detailed. The shadows and HDR performance are very impressive. Think I will try Death Stranding on it - that game looked breathtaking even on the NU7400.

IN summary - very pleased with my purchase and it will keep me entertained in the months of lockdown to come

Give The Division 2 a try, but turn Neutral Lighting On in the game's settings. When you have night scenes with flares going off (and maybe a little rain), the HDR will leave you gobsmacked. It's that good!

Does anyone have an opinion on the Samsung RU8000? Specifically the 55 inch.

It looks like it ticks a lot of boxes:
£600 or a bit less.
4k
HDR10+
Reputable brand
Good software

Anything else that I should obviously buy in preference? Usage is films and TV from streaming services.

Too expensive. You have comparable TVs nearer the £400-500 range (Hisense U7BUK, Sony XG70 etc.) OR you have something many leagues above it at £800, Sony XF90. Note: below the XF90 ignore any mention of HDR, it doesn't exist even though it's advertised, it's all smoke and mirrors because the capability of actually showing HDR isn't there (local dimming etc).

I’m looking to change a Panasonic DX902 for a Samsung Q90 (both 65”). Is this a decent upgrade please?

Also looking to get a 5700XT soon. Can I run games at 1440p okay on a Q90?

Not much of an upgrade, but that's a bit subjective. You'd see a more stark difference if you jumped to an OLED or a TV of a bigger size. 5700 XT won't have any issues with 1440p in general.

Can anyone kindly recommend the best 32” tv for a smaller room, primarily used for gaming. There seems to be plethora of choices.

I have a LG OLED C9 (55) in the lounge and would preferably like something of a similar quality.

For 32" you need to look at monitors as all TVs in that size are pretty much crap. As for it (any 32") being similar in quality to a C9 - not even a little bit close. Granted, if you forget about HDR then there's a lot of decent ultrawides to be had around that size. I'd think maybe of getting one of those.

seems to be a confusing line up
the 900 does 4k@120, 950 doesn't ? https://www.flatpanelshd.com/article.php?subaction=showfull&id=1584090006
the 950 has the x-wide viewing angle , 900 doesn't https://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1578348000

I was trying to find out how many zones they have, but couldn't find that are they a MALD , or FALD - adopting mild term from hybrid cars

They're both fald and I'd bet the same number of zones, afaik it's 48 but waiting for confirmation. Basically the way they're differentiating is you get one for HDMI 2.1 or the other for wider viewing angles (particularly useful for going to 75" & up). There's also different processors for both but I tend to ignore that as it's mostly just hype at this point, for Sony.

It's really just a refresh of last year's XG95 & XF90 combo. For gamers the 4K 120 10bit RGB & VRR are gonna be real differentiators but for just movies & TV - whatever. Buy one of the remaining XF90s while they're cheap.

Such disappointment from 2020 TV lineups across the board. Were they betting on the Olympics and the Euro to sell us overpriced crappy lcds and oleds lacking basic features? Can't believe that the year that two major events were supposed to take place plus next gen consoles we didn't get some amazing new sets.

It was always gonna play out this way. OLEDs peaked 2-3 years ago, now they're just refreshing and adding minor software features to differentiate year to year. LCDs had their margins shot to hell & the high end variants are very expensive to make and likely not so much demand (doing ZD9s and the like). Hence they're all just doing refreshes as well and trying to sell you on "design" and some other BS like Samsung does. There's still two ways to grow for LCDs though, it's just that they're still not ready for prime time from the big guys (Dual layer on the one hand, and Mini LED on the other).

The other stuff like microLED is still just pipe dreams (excluding actually paying millions for one).

Sadly I can't say I'm confident next year will be better, I think we won't see any new decent products until 2022 (on the LCD side). On the OLED side it's pretty good atm overall, not much to say or hope for, except maybe some more price drops on 77" and above but they're getting there as well.

We notified all of our A9H pre order customers that Sony has canceled this series and will continue the A9G through the balance of the 2020 model year and that Sony will continue to develop firmware updates to enhance the performance of the A9G.
Just got a call from one of our clients who says he heard on another forum that the A9H was not confirmed as canceled and may ship later this year. Sorry to say this is not correct.

@Kenai

No one's complaining they're not giving us HDMI 2.1 when it's advertised as 2.0. I'm calling them scum because they're going out of their way to block people from unlocking these things on their own AND trying to scrub the info from the internet. That's why I call them scum, because they are. Censorship for pennies, how could it not be scummy? Note: no one is saying they can't do these things, just that it's ******. How could artificial restriction of these features when the HW is capable not be ******?

New info about XH90 from CHAYNA ( :D ): https://post.smzdm.com/p/awx0r4mm/

- 850 nits peak brightness (vs 1300 XH95)
- 32 LD zones (vs 60 XH95)
- Has HDMI 2.1 & a better processor + 1 more GB ram

And because I'm bored, a local dimming zone comparison between Z9F Z9D XF90 (104 vs 48 vs 600; those are 65" numbers else Z9D can do 800 at 75" O_O)

so are the blacks being raised in gaming, as some king of processing compromise for low latency .... is the T part of the new Q***T range - dual leds - giving some benefit ?

The local dimming gets gimped so that they can claim low input lag, yup. T is just the designated letter for this year (instead of last year's 'R'). Why not S? I assume because they also use that for some models, like Q950TS. Though naming is so idiotic for all companies, who really knows. And the 800T is not dual led, that's only used for some lower end models. This is essentially their top of the line, 8K model, if we disregard the design non-sense of the 950TS as putting it above - they're more or less the same in terms of PQ (for calibrated movie experience).

As much as he's full of it sometimes, FOMO's putting the youtube "professional calibrators" to shame, he really upped his review game. Frankly, I'd even take him over RTINGS if he had a wider selection of TVs.

And ofc Samsung being ****sung as usual (no, I'll never stop dumping on them until they fix their ****).

Z8H 75" review (China):

https://post.smzdm.com/p/alpwln7g/

Very strong backlight performance, I have to say! Once again Sony proves how much it can do even with fewer zones. Or perhaps controlling more zones is more difficult and that's why there's so many TVs with poor performance but a lot of zones? Who knows.

Still, the Z9G was stronger, and it makes it look almost like a bargain with the current discounts. And if we look even further back and consider the Z9D... uff. Let's just hope we get QDCC TVs next year.
