Are you back to saying RB is the 3rd fastest car? That's usually good enough for a RB win! I'm sure you said the Mclaren was now the fastest only for them to fall apart.
Since around the time of China, I stated that RBR/Ferrari/McLaren were all within a whisker of eachother, with RBR having the best qualifying pace, while McLaren had the best race pace. Some tracks will suit some cars better, which means that there will always be a little change from track to track, as to who has the fastest race car.
There was a shake up for 2 races (Valencia/Silverstone), where regulations were changed/strictly adhered to.
We also saw Ferrari take a step forward (probably due to upgrades, but also because of the new regs), at Silverstone.
In any case, I stick by what I said: I believe RBR do have the fastest qualifying car. In race trim, Ferrari is now fastest, with RBR/McLaren battling for 2nd best (depending on the track). At Hungary, expect RBR to take a step forward.
McLaren were hit hard by the regs change in Silverstone, but today, we are back to Valencia specs and low and behold, McLaren as if by magic, are back in the game.
With the 2nd/3rd best race car, Vettel was doing a fantastic job. We know this because he was doing a much better job than his team-mate. This would suggest that he was just in fantastic form and perhaps was flattering the RBR car.
I also stated that at some point in the season, Vettel's form would dip. This happens to all drivers. Low and behold, he got beaten at Silverstone (where normally you would expect him to win and certainly not to lose by 20s, but more importantly,
he was almost beaten by his team-mate and had to be assisted by his team-boss, to prevent the overtake being attempted by his team-mate).
We also saw today, for the first time in 15 races, that he could not qualify on the front row.
The above would suggest that (maybe) Vettel's form is beginning to dip.
Re: McLaren falling apart:
Check out today's qualifying position. Hamilton qualified in 2nd place, which I believe is his best qualifying position this season. I don't think I need to say anything else.
