German Grand Prix 2012, Hockenheim - Race 10/20

This. the teams usually tell there drivers to give it back or run the risk of a penalty, unfortunately for RedBull this did not pay off.

FIA were actually spot on this time with a retrospective drive through.

Only if the FIA told them to give it back. If RBR asked the FIA for clarity, and the FIA didn't give them an answer before the end of the race, that isn't RBRs fault.

Yes a drive through should be given if a driver is requested to give a place back and doesn't. But if Vettel was never asked to give the place back, they cant give him a drive through for not doing something he was never instructed to do.

But if Vettel was told to give the place back, or the FIA told RBR and they never told him, then a drive through is correct. But I've not seen any evidence that this was the case.

Looks like Hamilton agrees!
Nice for someone in the paddock to finally come out with it! I must say, watching Vettel's displeasure at Lewis unlapping himself was very much the highlight of the GP for me.

"I never give up, so I'm not going to back off and let everyone past me when I've got the pace to go past the guy in front."

Funny considering he wanted to retire the car when he got a puncture, then did retire for no apparent reason later on.

When do the FIA tell them to give it back? it's up to the team always has been.

Forgive my ignorance but the Hamilton incident with Rosberg was a totally different kettle of fish.

Vettel took a wider line out of the corner putting less strain on the tyres which gave him the advantage with traction when their rubber was obviously shot. Hamilton was forced off the track by Rosberg.

Seb probably knows how MS felt at Spa 98 now, McLaren again using a lapped car to interfere with the race. Funny how Lewis retired shortly after he could no longer interfere with the leaders.

So what? He's fully entitled to do what he did, I don't see why the intentions of why he did it come into it really.

The floor was damaged.

Plus from early on in the race they could have hoped for a SC or some rain to get back into the race. As the race went on and the chance of points slipped away they could have retired to save wear on the engine and GB.

Off course he can do it, just poor sportsmanship to use a lapped car to try and interfere.

If a lapped car can overtake the leaders you have to question what the hell the leaders are doing not the sportsmanship of the faster car. You had Alonso the lead car having to defend from a lapped car, kind of embarrassing for the leaders imo.

Alonso made no defence in the slightest? Lewis was never close to trying to overtake him, did you watch the race?

Lewis was on fresh tyres, Alonso and Seb were on worn tyres, not hard to understand.
