German Grand Prix 2012, Hockenheim - Race 10/20

I'm calling it now that Perez will go to Ferrari. Remember where you heard it first.

First? lol,

I'm undecided on it, I'd like to see him in a car that can.. But then he would have to play second fiddle to Alonso, Not so good.

While he's a good driver, he was also fortunate to have the backing of Carlos Slim's enterprises, because a lot of good drivers in junior formulae are struggling to get funding. British F3 is down to just 12 cars in the main class, Indy Lights has a similar number, F3 Euroseries has 15. Even the WSR has seen a drop in entries. Esteban Guerrieri could have been in Perez's seat if it wasn't for sponsorship problems (he dominated Formula Renault 3.5 in 2010 despite a penalty that had nothing to do with his driving, and missing 4 races costing him the championship on paper).

Ferrari aren't stupid enough to play team games in the first few races at least, and if Perez is good enough to beat Alonso in those first few races, they aren't stupid enough to make him play fiddle. Massa gets a fair crack, he even nearly won a title (for 30 seconds at least) when he was supposed to be a #2 driver to Kimi. Ferrari of today is very different to Schumachers Ferrari.

Just watched the highlights. Lolled at Jensen's comment over the radio about Vettel's overtake "I thought the car was meant to be on the circuit.." :D

Hamilton congratulated alonso over twitter after the race. First time I've seen him do that.

Could he be getting friendly with alonso for a move next season?

lol he wont go there as Ferrari have always run a number 1 driver and the also ran lol

At first I felt Vettel's penalty was a little harsh and that 10 seconds would been sufficient, but I guess 20 seconds sets more of an example and will maybe make drivers/teams think twice after similar passes.

I am kind of hoping Perez does get a shot at Ferrari, not only as Massa just isn't consistant (or good) enough at the moment, but the Sauber this year looks like a a good car where I think a lot of drivers will want a chance to prove themselves in.

Not only is a good example, but it is exactly what he would have gotten through a drive through penalty.

What a great race :) Mclaren updates working very very well, can't wait for Hungary this Sunday coming.

Had to laugh at Hamilton unlapping himself in style and giving Button a bit of a hand. Vettel was always going to get a penalty for that, and although it may look over the top, it will stop any drivers just trying it on again.

Well done once again to Alonso. As long as Ferrari give him a top 3 car for the rest of the season, he will be hard to beat.

I think the Vettel penalty was harsh. Had it been earlier in the race with time for the FIA to act he would have just been told to give the place back.

But that said, Vettel was pushing the limits of the track constantly all race long. Almost every long shot you saw of the top 3 had Vettel running wide, and how many times did we get a reply of him on the grass coming into the arena?

Lol'ed at Hamilton taking Vettel. Needed a trollface to hold up :). Vettel does turn into a bit of a spoilt brat when things don't go his way.

Good to see the McLaren back on form, but I assume it will only last until RBR and Ferrari bring their next major updates, which presumably will be before McLaren bring any more?

Alonso's title to loose now, surely?

I think it needed to be 20 seconds, its not the first time vettel has done this, although it wasnt the same or as clear cut, remember the pass he made on button in australia last year. Looked a bit dubious at the time but he got away with it. Just because the pass was done before he went of the track, he wouldnt have been able to carry that speed if there had been a wall or grass.

Yesterday was just blatant sillyness on vettels part, if you find the overhead shot, neither of them are finished turning right when vettel just boots it straight off the track, button is still turning right at the time, how horner could seriously use that peice of footage to try and defend it was laughable.

Bit suprised by the penalty.. Thought they might just swap the positions around?

Is that your 3 series?

It looks like its got a DE numberplate - from Green Bower in Pembrokeshire maybe.

Penalty seems a bit harsh. 5 sec would seem more appropriate. Also, did I fall asleep or was there no drivers interview?

20 seconds is a retrospective drive through. Drivers do not get a drive through for illegal overtakes, they are just requested to give the place back.

Do we know if Vettel was told to give the place back but ignored it? If he did that then a drivethrough was justified. But if it was just that the FIA took 2 laps to decide if it was an illegal overtake, buy which point it was too late, then that's the FIAs fault.

They do get a drive thru if they don't give the place back, Jenson got one in Australia, Alonso got one in Silverstone, Lewis got one in France....nothing to do with the FIA's fault.

This. the teams usually tell there drivers to give it back or run the risk of a penalty, unfortunately for RedBull this did not pay off.

FIA were actually spot on this time with a retrospective drive through.
