German Grand Prix 2014, Hockenheim - Race 10/19

It has worked? The teams won't run or develop it, which was the reason for dropping it (cost).

So you're saying that all the money that McLaren spent on all the new upgrades to counter the lose of the FRIC cost nothing?

McLaren brought 2 sets of front wings so that's £1 million alone for one race. great saving there then...oh dear.

Still don't get how this front-rear linked suspension can cost a lot. The 2CV had that in 1948.

:p

We all know the reason the FIA looked at it is because someone complained to them that it breached the rules, presumably because they couldn't get it working themselves.

As is always the way with this sort of thing, its simpler and quicker to get something banned than it is to try and copy it.

Riccy's dancing :p

Seemingly trying to get a smile out of his race engineer.

Nothing compared to what all the teams would spend to continue developing it. Should have been dealt with much sooner though of course.

That was the reason they gave. That doesn't mean that's the reason they actually went after it ;).

Of course, a lot of people got worked up about it being some anti Merc thing, even though it's been around for years and all teams run it to some degree. The big shake up those people were expecting didn't happen as expected. Think it was quoted as being 2-3 tenths so even if a team didn't have it at all, it's hardly a second found for example.

Who says exactly? More to the point how many millions have the teams spent on Fric designs for the past what, 7 years for Mclaren, multiple years for most cars? Throwing away all the work that produced is wasteful, who says they have huge expenses developing the system. Perhaps 90% of the grid had developed them as far as they could go and were pretty happy with them. Now removing it they have to find a dozen small individual things that create the same effect which could cost many times as much.

If something is new, and teams have only spent a bit on it, and you simply remove the option completely you might save money. But you think teams will now spend no money on suspension? The likely hood is they all spent 10s of millions on it over the years, and now they have to find a bunch of new ways of inducing the same effect. It could cost many times more in new development than simply sticking with Fric as it was.

You mean in the 2000s when McLaren used it and won? ;)

The only way to save money is to have standard parts like front\rear wing, floor.

Or static/stable rules. You cant run last years car any more as the rules constantly shift. Hell, you would have struggled to run the last race in the same spec as you ran the first race without breaking the rules in some recent seasons!

So guys, in the absence of anything interesting, where Ricciardo girating seems to be the most interesting story so far...

what are people's predictions for qualifying?

I'll go first.

Rosberg
Hamilton
Ricciardo

I'm watching P3 on a Japanese channel and they are so much better(no I can't understand a word)
You can hear the engine noise all the time they don't say a lot or get excited like the UK pundits do.

So RB have a new engine update, McLaren have changed their gear ratios and Ferrari say their car is better with out FRIC.

What company is that with no sat signal?

Is the harpin the only overtaking spot? The rest seems it would be very hard to overtake.

I see they are talking about 3 stops as well.
