2 were faulty on arrival, 1 crapped out after 9 months of good use (no OC)

What faults did you have ?

Just plugged mine into a friends pc and it was the same. It looked ok at first but opening the task bar and it blue screened and on restart the green squares were there and driver re-sets.. At least its not my Pc.

the first one, had problems with playing DVDs and video files in software which used GPU acceleration, so for example WMP or PowerDVD

the second was fine for 9 months and then after a while, began intermittently artifacting in games, I was unsure at first, but then it began crashing my pc when it did it, a quick bit of poking about proved the Graphics card to be at fault and it went back

the third had something wrong with it when you were playing games, its a very odd issue, I noticed it while playing multiplayer BFBC2. I'd load into a game fine, and then at the end of the round, the little "You Lost" or "You Won" video would play, it would start loading the next level and the stats, artifact (much in the same way yours appears to actually) and then a flash of black, a flash of white and bang, I'm back on the desktop. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7iBskfsx98) But not every time. Sometimes it would load the next level, but there would be horrendous texture issues.(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1awFr3NzA7c) I tried AvP as well and was getting similar results, and even tried dx9 mode to get horrendous results!(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPbM0yrj5RA) Unfortunately it seems to be quite specific, and the bug doesn't appear in the regular testing they do, but I was promised they'd test BFBC2 for me, and since it has "Premium Priority Warranty" with OCUK, I don't have to worry about the manufacturers. However they haven't kept their word and are making me wait looooooong time for replies from the managers. Making me very :(

Thats not good mate not having much luck. I have found Oc customer service very good with any issues I have had. They might be investigating throughly as three of the same have been faulty. ?

Mine is going back for a refund and I will buy a different brand.

This is the thing I'm suffering but nowhere as drastic as this persons video. Only half an inch from the very top of the screen when clicking certain items/buttons or scrolling Catalyst Control Center. Happens the same places everytime.

It's a 2D idle issue with Crossfire and not specific card related.

It's a idle clock driver issue from what so many have said. Now the fun part is how to get AMD to fix it and how long before the fix will filter through the drivers. Soon as any load goes on the GPU like Youtube it goes away.

It use to take many versions if I had issues with the x1950xtx's in CrossFire to get fixed. It was rather annoying.

Ati Card Purchased, hope it comes for monday as advertised :D

Cheers

Sadly it hasn't made any difference. However I've now ran into problems in games as well now. I've had two hard locks in Counterstrike Source and Team Fortress 2 after 5 minutes of gaming. Can't alt tab or anything. Cursor stops responding. No blue screen or black screen. It just hangs on the game where ever/whatever action and stays there. Once it locks the fan starts to speed up.

480 might do better on benchmark, but we all know benchmark isnt real life and in the real world the 5870 is a better card, but thats the case with most nivida vs ati battles the ati's are better cards but the nivida's score high on benchmark! i prefer ati for there reasons
A - Cheaper
B - Dont tent to run as hot
C - Didnt buyout then shut down the best 3d card company (3DFX)
Who we all owe pc and console 3D gaming to, and had buy far the best cards and tv adverts! :D

Upon further testing the horizontal lines across the top of the screen seems to have went away when I hooked up the Samsung 1080 HDTV via DVI to HDMI.

Yet it's not liking the Dell 2405 with DVI/DVI that gives me these little horizontal flicker/noise lines whatever they are. Crossfire enabled or disabled they show. Connections are all tight and double checked the back of the Dell 2405. Or it's just not liking the supplied DVI cable. It's never gave me problems before. :s

I also switched the Crossfire bridge around so the text was reading towards the inside of the case and tested Counterstrike Source which played fine for 30 minutes. No lockups. No loud fan at all. How odd...

Are you really trying to say the 5870 is the faster card

You might wanna do some research, try this one for starters.

Did i use the word "faster"?

Also if you look at your link under the :- Temp idle, temp load, power usage idle/load and noise, ull see the ati wins in everyone, id rather the very slightly slower but more reliable quieter, less power hungry and cooler card!

Had this problem with my XFX 5870, tried everything i could think of to no avale, so randomly i changed the hz of the monitor from 60 to 75hz and guess what it stopped, also worked if i changed it to 59hz, anything other than 60hz, if ur running ur desktop in 1600 x 900 @ 60hz thats exactly what i had mine set at when i had problems.

Ive now upgraded to a new monitor with HDMI which has also removed the problem and i can use 60hz now, but if ur running at 60hz in any res, change it and see if it stops! hope this helps.

Nice attitude

I'll quote you again:

This quote definately infers that you think the 5870 is faster than a 480 apart from in some synthetic benchmarks. Why in "real life" is the 5870 the better card?

You might want to read through your posts before submitting to the forum!

In my world better card means better performance, who gives a damn what the power consumption is, or how hot it runs?

If these things concern you that much then you shouldn't be buying a top end GPU at all, as they all suck up lots of power and generally run quite warm!

I buy a video card to play my games with all the eye candy turned up, not worry about saving the dolphins!

Have you owned a 480? as ive had both the 480 and a 5870 and the 480 was by far the better card especially for minimum frame rates.

The 480 gave me a far better gaming experience and when Overclocked to 850 on the core its blistering for performance, dont get me wrong the 5870 was and still is a very good card just the 480 is better.

As for power heat yes the 480 is hot and uses 100w more on load than the 5870 is that a big deal honestly.

Get a decent case with good airflow and the 480 will have lower temps by far.

If i could trun back time i would still have my 480 as the 580 isnt that much better tbh apart from the cooling side of course.
