Ghost in the Shell (2017) (Scarlett Johansson)

Much better trailer, some bits looks like they took the page out of Bladerunner but I am still keeping my expectation low.

Even if the film isn't any good it still looks like it'll provide enough visual eye candy to make up for it.

Will definitely be going to watch this.

Really not into ghost in the shell, etc. but there are 2-3 different trailers doing the rounds as ads and have to say they look epic atleast as a stand alone ad.

Gf and I watched the original film for the first time last night, and I don't get all the hype. This live action remake actually looks more interesting, the original is a bore fest.

I really don't get why it is so highly acclaimed, 40% of it was just shots of the city with music playing and nothing happening, hell, it feels like more happens in a single episode of One Piece than what happened in the entire film (and that's saying something).

Could be partially down to being a thing of it's time, in that what impact it had 20 years ago, is not the same for someone watching it for the first time today. For those people that GitS had an impact on, continue to have affection for it and continue to praise it.

Of course, there are likely people who didn't understand that acclaim for it 20 years ago. That can happen with anything and everything though. You'll will always find someone who doesn't get the hype surrounding something and why whatever it might be is so highly acclaimed.

Ultimately, it comes down to the complexity that is the human. Why does a film that is flawed get so much praise, yet another film that might be a fantastic example of how a film should be made; writing, direction, acting; get's very little in comparison?

I can imagine Spock saying, 'it is illogical to have affection for something that is flawed'.

They reminded me of those Miami Vice introspective/moody/thoughtful scenes with the 80s music in the foreground. Those of an old age like me may know what I'm talking about, the young-uns may not :)

I get that, but I watched Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind for this first time a few months ago, and it predates GitS by a decade, and I thought it was great!

I just feel so little story actually got told, you could have condensed what actually happened in to like 30 minutes. The ideas weren't exactly new either, rogue/sentient AI had been done in Westworld/Bladerunner.

That's Oshii's style, there's a name for that type of mood/scene setting he does, I watched a critique of his works some time ago and they used GITS to highlight the way he does that so well. Personally I really like it, it's all hand drawn and the bit with the double decker bus turning the corner and the reflections perfectly sweeping across it blows me away each time I watch it.

If you found GITS boring and slow, for heaven's sake don't watch the sequels :D

This looks pretty shocking as far as I'm concerned. i've only seen the 2 anime films and I know enough to know that this isn't following any one plot and just hollywooding everything. it's going to be a jumbled mess and the trailers just look shocking to me. possible it's a really bad trailer like the rise planet of the apes one was but I don't think so.

The fact she is a terrible actress, and if you are purely basing her on looks then shes hardly special there either compared to some of the people available in hollywood.

Lucy was enough to put me off of her in any kind of lead role.

She's terrible in terrible films, like the terrible Marvel films.

Haha, terrible actress my foot. Lost in Translation, Girl With A Pearl Earring, Black Dahlia, Prestige...

Lucy was trash. You could have had anyone in that role and they'd have looked bad.

Haha, just seen I've already replied to your silly post once before. You're still wrong.
