Ghost of Tsushima - July 17th

So just platinumed this.

Thought it was a good game but dont really understand the massive praise its got - for me its not as good as GOW or HZD or even Days Gone.

Didnt want any of the above to end but with this I was pretty bored after around halfway and it became a bit of a slog. The story is basically a repeat of clear the territory and then storm this castle x3. Its not bad but nothing particularly great. The legendry quests were good but not enough of them and the side character quests just went on too long chasing the archer pupil all over the map or exactly the same thing just told in a slightly different way for the other character arcs.

Yes the map looks great but once you have done some shrines, had a few hot baths, chased a few foxes and written a few poems - thats it on repeat for the rest of the game.

Combat was great but i think they should have had the skill tress be much deeper so you could only max say 1 and a half - meaning you could really specialise in say assassination or bows - or be a jack of all trades but master of none. Allowing deeper build mechanics etc. By the third act I had maxed out everything possible so there was no point in doing any further collecting/ mongol camps etc - other than for the trophies.

So for me the game sort of fizzled out rather than having a strong end.

rant over :)

Yep. Just got this. Loving it.

just a question, are you finding it too dark during night time ? I can barely see interiors of houses etc.

Weird thing i had was i played it through on PS4 Pro but i couldnt get it to play at 4K in HDR, worked fine without HDR, tried everything i could find on the internet but couldnt get it to work properly (Although i am sure it was working like that for a while) But on the PS5 i had no issues whatsoever..

One criticism I have is the number of side quests I've accumulated so far.

Just completed act 1 and whether it's protecting farmsteads or completing tales I already have a huge to do list, none of which I've gone looking for.

When you save someone from a Mongol gang or bandit gang they will give you information that opens up a little side mission. If you have done it will automatically add it to the to do list.

Well - all I can say is there is plenty more of that ahead of you...

Picked this up yesterday. Started the campaign on hard and put about 4 hrs in but was finding it too easy. Started a new campaign on lethal and I’m finding the game so much better. Combat is brutal but way more satisfying as a result (you’re more powerful but so are the enemies).

looks like it’s going to be an excellent game and it’s a great example of HDR and how it can make a game punch above its weight graphically I think. Looks stunning at times and very ordinary at others. Great sound design and I’m really enjoying the change of scenery. Never played it on PS4 pro so no idea how much better it is at 60fps compared to 30fps but I imagine it’s significant.

I'm playing it too 8 hours or so in. Looks incredible on my OLED. I may up the difficulty but I'm just having fun exploring.
