Ghosts? Are you a believer? I didn't really until this happened..

There is nothing more chilling than seeing what can only be described as a world war soldier standing in a back garden

Also, haunted furniture, that had to be destroyed because it was scaring the living **** out of your family

i have had some weird electrical stuff happen also

I can never understand why people are so closed minded to it, are they afraid or something? Electricity would have essentially been magic to us 300 years ago, but science caught up and now look. What if quantum mechanics or string theory will one day explain it? Personal I think maybe space time is folded on itself and the nodes where it touches might see time ‘echo’s’ or something like that.

It's the ludricous specificity of the ghost. They always seem to fit the mentality of the person who wants to believe..

They always seem to be a lady in a long dress from the 1800 or a Soldier etc from the last 200 years because it fits the romantic fantasy of the place your staying etc..

Thousands of people die in hospitals, yet they aren't riddled with giatric ghosts in wheelchairs, hundreds of thousands of people died in field during wars, yet there not roaming the countryside.. Thousands of people have died in car crashes but there's not some headless guy holding his cycle helmet on the M34 roundabout.

It's never takes into account the boring nature of what a ghost would be if it was a real thing. It only ever fits the expected nature that is learnt from movies and hearsay.

Why is it always breathing that a ghost can make a sound of, but they can go Dave, Dave wake up, I want to have a chat..

I don’t know if any of you have ever seen it but there’s an old made for TV piece by Nigel Kneale (of Quatermass fame) called The Stone Tape.

While quite chilling, it’s also very inneresting in that it explores the theory that traumatic or powerful events can be recorded by natural materials and subsequently played back under certain conditions. The most common of these materials being stone or rock, hence “stone tape”.

tell me more about 'haunted' furniture - genuinely curious. why would a ghost or the likes want to 'haunt' furniture and what does that haunting look like? fwiw i do actually believe in 'something' - i'm not one of those 'nope ghosts don't exist' lot but equally i'm not buying into haunted furniture.

My nan and grandad (my nan is no longer alive) she owned a Wotnot (a really really old cabinet) , this was back in the 70's or 80's

They had to get it smashed up, as apparently there was some really bizaar knocking noises that was coming from it

We have a news article that it was in and she was featured in about it.

How true it was i don’t know, however my family would not be sort of type to go to a news paper and feed them a random story like that

It was basically some really bad knocking that would happen throughout certain parts of the day

What I like is that something weird happens but before working out what it could've been believers often jump to ghost or your favourite cryptid of choice!

I do want to believe though. Life is boring and something like this would spice it up but I'm going to need to see more than a few orbs in a photo before I'm a believer.

A few years ago a couple of my friends paid to stay at some 'haunted' house in Wales. Something like £300 for all 4 of them to spend a night. They saw those chumps coming a mile off!

This was a fun watch though

with all due respect that sounds like a load of waffle. knocking sound from a cabinet and a trip to the newspapers screams nonsense to me. if ghosts are indeed a thing, they ain't haunting your nan and grandad's cabinet, of that i'm pretty sure.

Granted, each to their own, although i know that i wouldnt think that its just some random article

the one about the world war soldier, this was something we have evidence of, although, it maybe a rogue thing, as this was an old camera print, and may have had a clone from a different negative, athough it is hugely bizar how the picture had a world was soldier in it, the era's are very different

One picture would have been from the 70's, the other (WW soldier (probably WW2) would have been from maybe 1940s - 1950's

I think people who have lost someone close to them, may feel like there are moments where there is presence, I lost my brother 3 years ago, and i would like to imagine he was around.

No, I don’t believe in things which don’t exist.

Is there a TL;DR version of the OP?

Yup:

Two blokes went to a wedding, drank a bunch of beers and then went back to their shared room. One of them woke up and heard some breathing, the other one also woke up during the night at some point and felt a heavy sensation.

Then in the morning the owner or manager of the Inn decided to wind them up with a ghost story.

I wouldnt want to be manning quiet london underground tube networks, when there is no folk around,

There have been stories, although i think a lot of them are to do with drafts of air. Some people have seen figures walking about

You can certainly get some nasty drafts of air in the tube and there are indeed some special figures walking about.

I would imagine those stories are told though, to sell ghost tours.

Although i would imagine there have been a lot of people passing on the tube networks, not to mention possible anciant burial grounds during the creation of the tube networks

London loves a good history / Ghost tour

What makes you think they want to do it or there's any sentience in their actions?

fair questions that i couldn't even begin to counter with any rational sort of reply but i just don't see Casper knocking on the inside of grannies dresser, whether by choice or just 'because'

We laugh about it now but what if they had it half right about reincarnation? You don't come back as a living thing but rather a bit of furniture.

You'll look at your kallax from IKEA in a different light now!

This is the part I don't get and even less so with ghost hunters.

You see an translucent figure walking around and maybe it walks through a wall. Other than that being weird and maybe make you double take... What is there to fear?
