Gibbo

I dont consider my self to be a BMW fan by any means but those that rubbish the CSL need to go in one before doubting it.

The CSL feels NOTHING like a 330i, the CSL is incredibly RAW for an e46.

I know, as I said above, I've been in it. Gibbo took me for a ride in it at the RR.

It is very RAW comparatively, but I can still easily see why it would get boring. I know I most likely would.

I'm not saying it's rubbish in the slightest, there is no denying it's an awesome machine, I know what i'd prefer though :)

:/

You drive the epitome of boring. I couldn't see a high powered, high-revving, raw, driver orientated, RWD car getting boring any time soon :/

Actually no, you used to drive the epitome of boring (saab and astra), now you drive a fast version of boring :p

I've been in it and yes we could take corners at VERY silly speeds but I do think it would get boring. It's why I don't like Bimmers overall...they are too refined, I thought it when I was in PMKeates', you couldn't feel the speed you were going. Wheres the fun if you can't feel anything?

I felt the same in Gibbo's CSL actually, it was an amazing piece of kit, but just not that interesting a car. It got you places fast, but not as involved or interestingly as something like the 'stang would (not been out in the 'stang mind, if Gibbo is at the RR then I'll go in it...just to compare between that and CSL obviously. :p).

Nice ninja edit, I was about to say I used to drive the epitome of boring :p

It may be boring to you mate, but everyone has their likes and dislikes, I don't find my car boring in the slightest, still gets my heart racing :D

And if a rover 400 v6 can get your heart racing, I'm 100% sure that the CSL would, everytime you turned the key!

For gawd's sake I've been in the damn thing :p, yes it was awesome but I would deffo get bored of it after not very long.

Being a passenger in a car designed to please the driver is never going to give you the true effect...

Correct. I've been very bored being a passenger in an Elise before now, but I wouldn't for one minute think that an Elise would be boring if I were driving it.

I agree, my point still stands though. That fact that Gibbo found it very boring a long time ago holds this up :)

So what does a Rover 400 have that the CSL doesnt which captivates you?

It cannot be explained, we cannot help what we like and what we dislike. It's not something technical that is on paper.

You love your car, all the features like heated leather seats, cruise control etc etc are all luxury's of something that you adore. With mine it's the rawness, the handling, the noise, the whole basic-ness of it which just all adds to the car that I adore as well :).

Penski likes rusty old VW's with the right "stance" - cannot be explained, he just likes them. In reality it's all it boils down to....personal preference :)

The CSL is in my top 10 Garage, after 10+ Laps round the ring in one with Semi slicks and the hour plus of track time Andy let me sit in on i love the things, they work well on both the road and track.

The CSL is a million times better than some MG thing.

With mine it's the rawness,

In an M3 CSL, the boot floor is made from cardboard and a radio is on the options list.

the handling,

CSL ticks the handling box.

the noise,

Is there a single engine with less than 8 cylinders which sounds better than the CSL?!?

the whole basic-ness of it

CSL doesn't even have cruise.

So remind me again why you'd get bored of a CSL but not of a Rover 400?

Now, I appreciate that different people like different things but you've said you'd get 'bored' of a CSL and given a load of utterly crap reasons.

It's like me saying 'I could never drive an RS6, it would just bore me' when even though it's not really my sort of car its pretty obviously not going to bore me given all the things I like about my current are more or less present in it..

The CSL is a fantastic car, no doubt, but I can see why he's made the change back to the Stang. Because the CSL does things SO well, it would be very easy to get in to naughty speeds and situations on the roads without realising. However from what I've heard, the Stang was a lot more of a loose cannon, no traction control and more torque than Fox is going to equate to a heck of a lot of fun. On the road, the ability to drive fast comfortably is perhaps less desirable than the need to watch how you drive because the car might come around and bite you in the arse.
