Gigabyte Aero 15 X Gaming Notebook With GeForce GTX 1070 Max-Q Graphics

Hi @Atom80 ,

I appreciate that certain things are under NDA. Can you tell us which components will be different from the existing SKU's? Not the actual new components just which older ones are being replaced, cpu, screen, gpu, etc?

Cheers,

MiSJAH - AKA Mr AORUS :D
If the keyboard and chassis/cooling is improved and a 120Hz screen is an option...... I might finally be swayed! Although saying that, all these mentions of dead/dying laptops doesn't fill me with confidence D:
First info I've seen about the refresh.

I'm glad the keyboard is one of the things that's mentioned in that teaser site (ghosting specifically!)

Very keen to see the full thing... maybe this time round I'll actually make a purchase :D
Interesting. One to keep an eye on.
Highly doubtful that the screen has G-Sync, but if it does it's almost an instant purchase for me.

Hi all - new generation products are able to be listed for pre-order on the 3rd April, but the shipping/sales embargo date isn't lifted until the 16th April (as things stand now, and as always are subject to change, and are out of our control as such)

So, just after Easter everything should be listed and you will be able to feast your eyes on the specs in their full glory :-)

Will update further if anything changes...

Regards,

Gigabyte UK NB Team

I hope any new variation makes improvements on the trackpad which is driving me insane - have gone back to disabling it. Also my keyboard is sensitive to double typing letters and as previously mentioned the keys are compact due to full size keypad keys. I have learnt to adjust to both these issues but I really miss using my old Dell keyboard which I never suffered these issues - don't know what you miss til it's gone..

Thanks Atom and apologies for the delay - just been really busy. Will test this in the evening and report back.
Ok really long delay! Not needed to change any settings for past couple of months so kind of let this go. :o

Also wanted to update I received the proper adapter with USB charging port this week which is working really well. :) Should I send the other one back? There wasn't any kind of return label in the box so not sure what to do.

Anyway - finally decided to update smart manager via the smart update tool and everything is back in english. :)

Laptop has been running solid as a brick last two and a half months - depsite some accidental abuse knocking the screen, but the hinge is still solid. Been travelling twice a week with it, no issues.

Solid as a brick - dangerous use of words - don't tempt fate!

Looking forward to finding out what the changes/specs will be.

I think I know the processor and specs really - so just hoping for a better screen, keyboard and trackpad.

Basically the interface - I/O

Really important really. I'll use it docked mostly so not that bothered, but having a laptop that doesn't type well is a no go for any asking price really, and certainly the asking price of this beast.

Really need a new laptop, but almost seems worth waiting until the end of the year for a potential 2070max-q version!

The i7-8750H and hopefully better keyboard etc. are worth the wait for this upcoming refresh though.

Hi @Curunen - thanks for the feedback. Regarding the USB adaptor, glad this arrived safely, we have now dispatched to all users who made request. Nice of you to let us know its with you. You are welcome to keep the original supplied adaptor as a spare, consider it a small gift for the inconvenience of having to wait for the slimmer version with charging port.

In the UK, the new generation of AERO15W and AERO15X will all be shipping with the slim /USB charge point type AC Adaptor.

Hi @cbwallop - We really don't want elements of your machine to be driving you "insane". If trackpad is not correct, and keyboard is over-sensitive, we would suggest sending to our service centre to have the parts replaced for new.

Let us know if you need any guidance to make this happen.

Ok Atom80, you have my attention. I will be ordering one of these this time, if the price is not completely out of whack that is. Your refresh of the Aero 15X has actually saved me from ordering an i7 Surface Book 2 which I think I would have had issues with after a few months. Can I just ask if the new AeroX has a metal chassis? I just need to know its going to be durable? Also where are the exhaust fans, are they in the same position as the '17 model Aero15x?

One last question, I understand the NDA until 3rd April (looking fwd to that) but can you explain what you mean by shipping embargo? If you don't mind me saying, Gigabyte/Aorus haven't been great with supply since I've been following them actively. Assuming we can place pre-orders on 3rd April, when would we expect stock to land in the UK?

By the way, is there a UK service centre?

I assume there's a 2 year warranty - the legal requirement, but we have to ship it to the service centre at our cost?
But it's sent back free of charge?

For those having to do this, how was the process?

It's a lot of dollar to spend on a laptop, so would want service to be top notch.

Its a 2 year collect and return warranty in the UK so all shipping costs are covered, you would only have to ship it to a service centre if you were making the warranty claim abroad.

There is no legal requirement in the UK to provide a 2 year warranty as we have the sale of goods act which can give you up to 6 years to make a claim under certain circumstances.

Hah - fingers crossed. I'd like a good 4 years or so out of this if possible!

This machine was good enough when I got it at the beginning of the year so I wouldn't wait if you need it now, especially if they're refreshing the cpu. :)

Thanks very much, that's awesome. :)

Nice to be able to carry only one plug and charge both phone and laptop from it.

@Atom80 I have a question about my 15x that I've been crawling the internet for since I got it several months ago. Can the model that does not come with a RAID array pre-configured have an array made later? I am a systems engineer with a dozen years of industry experience and I still can't quite figure this out. I have also called Gigabyte Tech Support and was told the engineering team would be looking into my issue and get back to me but that was over 2 months ago. I have 2 1tb NVMe drives installed, I flip the BIOS over to Intel RST, but as soon as I do the BIOS only sees 1 NVMe drive and RST manager in Windows shows nothing at all under storage. However, both drives are seen normally by Windows and perform perfectly fine as two separate entities when the BIOS is set to either AHCI or Intel RST Premium. I just do not like managing two separate storage pools and would much prefer one large 2tb space instead of two 1tb spaces. Any help would be much appreciated and thanks in advance.

Aero 15X 8th gen 6 core i7-8750H refresh with 144hz 1080p display and 512gb m2 drive available for preorder now. What is the likely date for shipping please Atom80/OcUK?

I'm surprised here hasn't been more official info on this release... Same for the other brands 8th gen refresh. From what I gather distribution should be around 16th april at the earliest but this comes from no official source, just my guess based on availability of the product shown elsewhere.
