firmware F06 is out - updating as i write this.
I have purchased this monitor on 15.06.2024 for 1.3k. Use case scenario: work (from home) during the day, bit of show watching, gaming in the evenings, weekends. I do not own a TV.
Quick delivery from OcUK.
Further background info: I come from a 27" 4k 144hz IPS panel, work is spreadsheets / email / writing - no colour perfection needed. I can control the brightness in my room.
In no particular order:
- Usage time: 950 hours, 124 Pixel Clean count. Eco mode disabled, other OLED saving settings left as default.
- The contrast is phenomenal. For both SDR and HDR, game changer. To the point where I would not consider any future gadgets without an OLED panel - no going back.
- Delighted about this purchase, to this day I am still amazed by the quality of the images displayed.
- I daily drove a laptop with 16" 2400p 60hz OLED before this big 32" so I knew the big advantages in colours - even more impressive on this large screen. Laptop still in use.
- Given the crazy high DPI of both my 27" and laptop, 4k on 32" at first doesn't seem enough. After one week working on it, I got used to it, more than good enough DPI. Still, looking forward to higher resolutions.
- Whilst is very bright outside, curtains are partially closed - I did the same with the IPS panel. In other words, I wouldn't consider brightness an issue.
- HDR 1000 in the evening is too bright - I either change to HDR 400 or I lower the brightness. Major bonus point for this monitor: brightness can be turned down in HDR!
- The laptop had Dolby Vision support: never used it. And when I specifically looked for a DV source, I couldn't tell the difference vs HDR10. So no need for the Asus model with DV support.
- It took me a while to get used to 32". I still prefer 27" when working on a single document, but overall I am happy to the 32". I won't go any bigger than this.
- My standing table is 180x65 (lots of paper docs needed for what I do). Depth is not enough. Looking to change the table top to 80 maybe 90.
- I have been burned in the past with Asus support (not the Ally, laptops deployed at my business). Gigabyte / AORUS has been great so far.
- Hardware: speakers ok, useful if needed. I meant to buy a monitor arm, stock stand good enough.
- Firmware upgrades will take a lot longer than expected - go make a cup of tea, leave it alone.
- I am running the monitor with a fibre optic HDMI 2.1 cable - highly reccomended. Super thin cable, easy to adjust.
- You can see the pixel shifting, no you won't care about it.
- Looking forward for higher res + tandem OLED in 4/5 years.
A note about software: I use StartAllBack to move the Taskbar around, and Twinkle Tray to change the monitor brightness without the USB cable attached (DDC/CI).
Keep the firmware up to date and install the Driver from here:
https://www.gigabyte.com/Monitor/AORUS-FO32U2P/support#support-dl-driver-monitor. Windows recognised the various HDR modes correctly after installing the driver.
FYI on my laptop, I left the taskbar as in, and used it for years. No burn in.
Honestly, now that the MSI 321UP is out, there's no reason to get this one. It's A LOT cheaper (£800 here on OcUK), only slightly lower refresh rate, 165hz vs 240hz. Unless you have a 4090, you won't be able to play modern games higher than 165hz. And if you have a 4090, a few hundred £££ won't make a difference.
Hopefully this helps with someone's buying decision for this Holiday season. Happy to answer questions.
