Gigabyte DS3/DS4/DQ6 Compatible Ram!

Anybody running the G-Skill 6400HZ's in a DS4 board?

Please could you tell us what your settings are... as I can't get them to run to 2.5x FSB.

i.e. Currently my FSB is 437 and they'll run fine at 874 - But I can't get them to run at 1092Mhz

Thanks

Ok the Gigabyte DS4 is about to go out the window

I bought a cheap stick of PNY DD2 256mb, certified at 1.8v still get the stop-start routine. Managed to flash the BIOS to F3 after about 40 cycles. Still no joy even with the cheap memory, keep getting the stop-start cycle. Managed to boot 4 times so far with the G.Skill 6400HZ, not good!

Removed the battery, cleared the CMOS, loaded the optimised defaults still no go. Are people flashing the backup BIOS as well?

I am rapidly running out of ideas here so ANY advise even if its stand on one leg and cluck like a chicken is welcome.

Anyone successfully using the DS4 with G.Skill can you post timings etc and bus speeds as I now have a £2,500 watercooled airconditioning unit at the moment!

Cheers

hi all
just to keep you all up to date, I returned the dq6 mobo on the 4th sept.

I got an e-mail on the 5th sept No Fault found so it cost me £18.50 to send it back and £23 No Fault fee and still no working computer. so I phone them to say that there is a fault and are they using a core 3 duo and can i have a retest, I got this reply today 12th sept.

Scan diagnosis. Will need to check the replacement before it goes out - E6600 causes the board to power on and off......and on and off......CPU is fine and I have flashed the BIOS. Normal P4 works fine. Maybe an incompatible board regardless of Gigabytes stance - or this may have an issue with Core2Duo CPU's.

so I'm not going mad LOL
and i'm still waiting
I'll keep you up to date soon

Anyone know if with the new bios the G.Skill 2GB DDR2 NR PC2-6400 (2x1GB) CAS5 Dual Channel Kit (Green heat spreader) works now on the DS3?

From what i've read the new bios versions from F3 onwards sorted out all the issues with the GSkill...... But i'd still say that you're probablty better off with the Geil Ultra

Its Working

OK the retest found the fault the so b4 sending the replacement out it was tested and all is fine. Put the new mobo in last night and it booted first time went to bed got up this morning and boot from cold. I now have a working computer, so the first mobo was bad and I spent a lot of time playing with memory that was probably OK. Never mine I’m happy now.
Thanks for all the help that you all have given

I just managed to get mine going. I had no joy at all with any BIOS including F5 and F6b. Finally got it working by setting vDimm to +0.4v (equivalent to 2.2v). I am now on F4 BIOS.

Either the motherboard vDimm reads low or the memory is rated wrongly.

Now for some tweaking.....

I spoke too soon.

Memtest passes with either single 1GB dimm inserted but if I use both dimms (dual channel) it fails. I have tried different slots, upped the vDimm and flashed to the latest BIOS but no joy.

Any suggestions?

Hi - perhaps not the correct thread ;) but could anyone tell me how to update the bios on my ds4 from windows?

i have @BIOS and clicked update from the internet it downloads the correct bios update and then the @BIOS program crashes after downloading.

the @BIOS program also has a update bios from file option but it asks for a bin file - when i manually download the bios from the gb website it is a fx file (x being the number of bios) so i currnetly have an f5 file and the @BIOS software cant read it - how do i get the bin file it asks for

the zip the bios came in also had a bat and exe file - are they safe to run from windows? and update the bios using that method?

I had a similar issue with the '@BIOS' program crashing... what I did was re-install the @BIOS from the Motherboard CD... As before I was running the newer version of @BIOS from the Gigabyte website.

...and yes, it safe to download and extract the exe file...

Here is a good site with all the Bios versions:

I personally have had the best resukts with F3 and F5c.

Please see below for a list of reported compatible and incompatible ram.....
COMPATIBLE
OCZ
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC5300 Dual Channel Gold GX XTC Series EL-DDR2 (OCZ26672048ELGEGXT-K)
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC5400 Dual Channel Gold GX XTC Series EL-DDR2 (OCZ26672048ELGEGXT-K)

Monstermunch, can you let me know where it says the OCZ OCZ26672048ELGEGXT-K is compatible with the DS3. I bought a 2gb set after seeing it in this thread as compatible, but for the life of me cannot get it working. Basically if the ram IS compatible, I wont send it back but look for other options.

The problem is though that the only place that says it is compatible is your thread, so i'm just double checking that it is actually compatible, and it wasn't a mistake posting it as compatible.

Thanks

OK well after almost a week of problem solving, swapping out components, and immense frustration, I have finally figured out that the

"OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC5400 Dual Channel Gold GX XTC Series EL-DDR2 (OCZ26672048ELGEGXT-K)"

is NOT compatible with the DS3 motherboard. My own findings are echoed by various threads online I have read. It seems the OCZ platinum might be compatible, but the gold is not. BIOS updates and voltage increases have no effect.

Can someone please contact the thread starter and get him to amend the thread, to save some other poor soul wasting time and money believing the information to be correct.

Thanks

Sorry

Just going on information given to me by other people, claiming that it worked!

No big deal & thanks for making the effort in the first place. Can you show me where someone said the ram is compatible. I might be able to find some useful information if I know where to look.

I can confirm that this is not working with my DS4 either. I just get the power-on/power-off cycle with black screen (no POST).
