Gigabyte DS3/DS4/DQ6 Guide

Ill check it now and see

*EDIT*

Just looked and you are correct, time to break out the speakers and turn down the HSF n test it out

Thanks, I was looking there, but I guess I just overlooked it

Gigabyte have released a Beta BIOS on their site for their 965P boards that provides unofficial support for the 45nm chips -

1. beta bios
2. Enable 45nm CPU with non official support, due to Intel having no official guarantee for 45nm CPUs on non-3 series chipsets

Even the rev 1.0's will now take the Penryns, tho you'll have to manually set the FSB to 1333mhz.

I have a Gigabyte GA-P35C DS3R motherboard and have just flashed my bios from F4 to the latest F10 and it seems not nearly as good for overclocking. I was sitting with a G0 stepping quad core @3.2ghz with temps in the mid to high 50's, now it doesn't seem to want to know (I had to increase CPU Voltage up to 1.45 for 3ghz and temps are +10 degrees priming as we speak), what bios is the best for overclocking then??

**Edit** Should also mention it is a Rev. 2.0 board.

hey now that i know 4x1gb wont overclock on this board. has anyone succesfully overclocked with 2x2gb modules?
do you think its a 4xmodule issue or a 4gb ram issue?
if 2x2gb overclocks fine ill go and buy 2x2gb today. was thinking Crucial Ballistix or ocz do these overclock ok with this board? im using corsair but i dont think there that great for overclocking.

I have this board with 4x1gb and mine overclocks fine, im on f8 bios and ive got 3.4 stable so far

could u elaborate some ? what do u mean by 3.4? 3.4ghz?
ratio? what ram are u using? what rev ?fsb? on your sig it says your using a ds3 ? i have a ds4 .not the same.
i still doubt u were able to gain a decent overclock with 4x1gb. id like to see more proof. becuase from what ive read so far (and ive spent the last 2wks looking into this afair bit) it difficult if not impossible to gain a decent and stable overclock with 4x1gb. depends on ram if it has a micron chip depends on chipset. memory hub controller etc. but one thing i do know is u dont see many overclocking with 4x1gb. becuase u just dont get far.
i have my fsb on 400 and its not stable at all . constant memory errors. im using all the right volts to and my memory test fine. serioulsy id probably test your sytem for stability becuase i doubt it would be .
isnt this your post?
"Im new to stress testing and ive just got the following message in Prime95:

FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.

Can you please tell me if this is normal or should i be worried about this?

also where is the stress test file?"

that was fairly recent , how far did u get b4 getting this error? and how stable is it now?

Your post sounds very abrupt....almost calling me a lier...read the following post and you'll see theres people running the same 4x1gb rams as i am and getting massively better oc's than me

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17834086&highlight=q6600

my spec/setup:
Also a p35c-ds3r rev 2.0 board
4x1gb geil ULL-mem [email protected] - (keeps my mem below stock)
q6600@3402ghz
378x9 multi
mch@+1v
fsb@+1v
ddr volt +3v
performance enhance-standard
vcore-1.368v
prime stable 2hrs so far

the post you are talking about was because id never used prime before and just wanted to confirm i wasnt damaging anything and i was getting that due to not increasing the vcore enough, like is says in the post im new to this but im getting good results so far with this setup.

I know i have to prime for longer periods, havent done so yet but plenty of headroom left voltage wise so im sure ill have no problems.

in your post you mention that you have your fsb set to 400.... can you elaborate a bit?

may i suggest you read more before getting peoples backs up

with 2 x1gb i get 450 to 500 fsb i also leave memory multiplier at 2.0 1:1 ratio
cpu at 3.6ghz i did have memory running at 900 mhz at one stage and i reckon i could have had it stable at 1000mhz .
with 4x1gb i get a big fat nada , zero. and some memory errors ,bsod, etc
my volts are the same as yours except for my vcore was at 1.47v
i know i could probably have more success with crucial ballistics or ocz plats but i doubt its possible to get to 1000mhz with 4x1gb on this board . that link has someone one with 4x1gb ram but in the link hes still testing for stability?
i think 2x2gb of micron chip based corsair ram would get u 1000mhz but not 4x1gb.

He's using a different board, as are you. I, and Adya are using the DS4 and we both have similar issues.

I'm by no means an overclocking god, but when I get 3.5GHz stable out of a EVGA 680i I expect the same with a P35 chipset.

both of you are correct :)

Some boards have issues with using 4 sticks of RAM and others like the Asus cope much better with it... same is true with different chipsets the P35 and X38 tend to clock better than the Nivida, especilly on Quad cores..

As to overclocking god :) well I will leave other people to decided but there are certainly people on the forum that know more than me :) webbo, weescott, cob a few that spring to mind :)

at the end of the day the forum is above sharing knowledge and helping people achieve the best out of their hardware, a good overclock in my opinion is 60% down to your hardware, 30% down to understanding your motherboard and its features and 10% down to spending hours fiddling :)

I hope that the various post I make about what I have an understanding off help people to achieve free Mhz and have fun because afterall thats what we all hang out here for.. ofc you should be proud of your clocks :) I know I am.. but I think less e-pen and more help and advice would see an improvement and help everyone out

just my 2cents :)

jody ,the reason i was annoyed in the first place is, becuase in my post ,i wasnt looking for an arguement as to whether u can overclock with 4x1gb. i was asking for opinions on what are good 2gb modules for overclocking.
but u posted with the intention of starting an arguement over ram? otherwise why would u bother saying that? obviously im frustrated becuase i spent a lot of money on this ram and setup and im not able to overclock with it . so ofcourse i dont want to hear u say , well i can overclock with 4x1gb! its like saying , "well i can do it , so sucked in " in a way.
would have being better if u explained to me how u did it , what settings and maybe suggested some ideas.
also asus p5k from what ive read is very overclockable. this thread is for the ds4. thats why i posted here.and i dont know i could check but maybe his 4x1gb of geil uses micron chips and handles being overclocked a lot better.
as for overclocking with 4x1gb its really hit and miss. and u can never really get as far as with 2gb.
check out this link i have many more just like it too. point is u will rarely every see 4x1gb overclocked to 1000mhz + i thought i could to until i looked into it and asked some gurus who all said no its not worth it .
http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?t=558313
if i could id get some 2gb of crusial ballistics tommorow i would ,but i run vista and it needs 4gb for games.well its a lot smoother with 4 anyway. so im looking at 2x2gb corsair rev 1 modules.
i appologise if i sounded abrupt b4. but thats the reason why i was.

I was just letting you know that it can be done and fully intended to explain my setup but your post just got my back up. Nobody likes it when someone they dont know (or do) insinuates they maybe lying and makes demands for proof, that is how your post read to me.

Anyway I accept your apology, and please accept mine also, put it down to a miss-understanding then, dont want to get of on the wrong foot with anybody im not here for that, im here to learn and get along with everybody.

Adya, if i can help in anyway dont hesitate to ask.

Jody

yeah no worries jody , i did misunderstand your intention. lets just start again ?
hey actually u can help me . i wouldnt mind knowing what geil ram your using . but i need to know batch and revision as well . i have a list of just about all ddr2 800 ram wich tells me what chip is used. if u and phnuemonic are using a certain batch of geil that uses micron chips then ill buy the same rev. i know these corsairs that im using are promos chips and i know there **** for overclocking. i was looking for xms2 rev 1 1x2gb modules but there just not available here in oz. maybe geil is the go then.
also how far did u overclock your memory to? did u get much further than 800mhz? i saw that phnumonic got to 900mhz ? has he got further ? reason is im determined to reach 1000mhz with a 450 fsb i can do it with 2 gb ram but its being a nightmare trying to do this with 4gb. i just wonder how much more that geil ram u gys use can go?
if its a trip finding out what rev etc your ram is dont bother . i hate having to look up details all the time myself, but it would be helpful for me and others trying with 4x1gb.
thanks adya

this is the memory im using:

I dont know hwre the other info is that you require but on the box they came in there is this code: *MY-058-GL

hope this helps

I have 4x1GB Crucial Ballistix PC5300 that's been running fine at 450MHz FSB at 2.1V. No increase to MCH or NB voltages.

Currently stress testing at 480MHz FSB with auto timings which give 5-5-5-22. Had to push it to +0.5V in the BIOS, which gave an actual voltage of just under 2.2V, as Orthos Blend fell over after a few minutes at +0.4V. Orthos is currently at just over an hour and still going.

I am using F7 BIOS on my board (GA-P35-DS3R) which seems to have quite a large vdrop. 1.45V vcore in the BIOS gives me 1.38V at idle and 1.36V under load.
