Gigabyte DS3/DS4/DQ6 Guide

to get 5.9 for your memory you need to run it at a 1:1 ratio with you're FSB.

eg. FSB 400mhz, you would need the memory at 800mhz pc6400.

So does that mean that even if you had 800Mhz memory running at 840Mhz because of an overclock you did, does that mean you'd still score less than 5.9 in Vista even though you've actually got it running faster than the FSB (and stock)?

(In my case, 350Mhz FSB, memory running at 840Mhz effectively)

Just curious :)

x38 dq6 raid 0 set up

not sure if this is the correct place, but if not i'm sure someone will move it.

main problem i had was not having set up a raid system before i had to follow the motherboard instructions and they are in Tainglish! - Taiwanese and English.

here goes:

1. if you are putting vista on don't bother making a dos boot disk like the manual says you don't need - i wasted practically a whole day trying to configure it to boot from a dos disk!
2. when loading vista it asks for the raid drivers and automatically loads the ICH8R/ICH9R drivers. This was a nightmare as it didn't recognise it first time around, load the driver then set up the primary partion etc..

you have to make the raid o drives primary partion etc, but vista handles this with obvious prompts.

got windows on and the essential updates, now doing a disk defrag to start it nice and tidy.

How easy is it to remove the heat sinks from the DQ6 so as to fit a backplate for a water block?

The 'Crazy Cool' heatsinks?
Haven't done this for a water block, but removed them to fit the backplate for a Zalman fan... It is is rather fiddly. They come off easy enough, but lining up the screws and the spring-nuts for the northbridge part of the heatpipe is infuriating.

i was about to buy this mobo GA-P31-DS3L, will my existing ocz ram work with this mobo

hopefully someone can confirm as im about to purchase said mobo

Sounds like DDR1, and that board needs DDR2.

What is your current CPU and motherboard?

My P31-DS3L is behaving strangely, it refuses to overclock (chip or ram) with the PCI-e freq set to 100 manually, it's happy enough with it set to Auto though. I find this strange since I always thought 100 is the default value for the PCI-e bus.

I have a GA-X38-DQ6 mobo and having a problem with it. The 1st PCI-E-16x slot is only running at 1x according to ATI CCC and CPU-Z. When I put the GFX card in the other slot I get full 16x on it. When I stick both my HD-2900-Pros in it I'm only getting video output from the card in the second slot and nothing from the card in the 1st slot. It doesn't even show up in the windows device manager. Everything's at stock.

Any ideas?

My Setup.

GA-X38-DQ6
Q6600
2x2GB RAM
2xHD-2900 Pro 1024MB
Thermaltake 850W PSU
1x Sata HDD
1x Sata DVD-RW Drive

Does anyone know anything about this? I have a similar issue with DQ6 (in sig). Sometimes GTX works fine (link width x16), sometimes it changes to x8 (still performs ok) but when it goes to x1 performance is awful (3DMark06 from 11,515 to 4,022).

Does anyone know how or why the PCI-e bus interface changes itself? Or even if the problem is more likely to be due to the graphics card or the motherboard?
BFG have offered to replace the card but I just want to check that it's not the mobo before I send it back. Updated to BIOS F7 but problem persists.

ok i hope its ok to post this in here, the reason i am is becuase this is probably the only ds4 thread on the net! i cant find any ds4 discusion in regards to o.c ing anywhere.
unfortunatly i have a ds4 and ive been trying to o.c this bitch of a board for a while now with no success.
ive memtested my 4gb ram extensively and have found 0 errors every time. ive tested my cpu etc with no problems.
last o.c was this fsb 300/ dram 450 /core speed 3.3ghz /x11 m.p/ timings 4-4-4-15
full memtest showed no errors . everest stress test for 5 hours showed no problems at all. ran some other test same result no problems.
even played bf2 for a few hours no probs. then i rebooted and this stupid mobo auto reset itself. i reset it again . then it reset itself to defualt. i cleard cmos . started all over again . then it auto reset it again?? u wouldnt believe how frustrating that was after all the work i put in.
so my question is to other ds4 giga**** board users is - have any of u found a way around this intel feature? is there a way to disable it? if u did find a way to increase fsb without being auto reset , how did u go about doing this? is having 4gb ram the reason why i cant push the fsb past 266? any info on this subject will be much appreaciated.
please ,with all due respect , do not reply telling me its hardware failure or bad o.c. i already stress tested the o.c with good results.
thanks adya

I have a GA-P35C-DS3R
Just wondering about beeps - I'm trying to figure out whether my CPU or Mobo is dead. Does this mobo have an internal speaker? I can't attach any case speakers to it since the one I had is fried. I have tried plugging in some speakers to the panel at the back but there are no beeps heard.

Nope it doesn't have an internal speaker.

I'm not sure which Intel feature you mean - I have exactly the same board, I'm still on BIOS F5 as I haven't needed to update it. My 965p-ds4 overclocks quite nicely, I don't have a problem to push it to fsb 400MHz and haven't tried further. I'm even running my rig overclocked with a decreased voltage on the cpu (1.225V). What frequency are you running your memories at? Are you overclocking at the stock Vcore? Which BIOS are you running?

If you mean, restart, computer boots, just about to post, restart, and so on till you kill power at the PSU, prey, hope, swear lots, try again, mine is doing exactly the same.

I'm sure it's the 4x1GB that it doesn't like.
