Gigabyte DS3/DS4/DQ6 Guide

Anybody with a P35C-DSR3 what bios are you using for overclocking? IIRC my revision is 2.1 and I have F10 on at the moment but its pretty useless. I managed to get it to boot before at 300x10 on my e2200 but set it back to defaults, tried it the other day and it just wont boot at all and doesnt seem to boot if I overclock it at all.

Looking on giga-byte website there is only an F9 or F10 bios for rev 2.1, would I be safe using bios from rev 2.0?

What programs will work to tell current volts to say FSB and MCH. I know you set it in the bios but is there a program that will report actual volts those two are getting?

RE monstermunchs guide, I've had some people here suggesting that 3Ghz is doable on stock Vcore, Is it worth ...

1) Starting at stock and seeing what happens, and if it needs more volts for the Vcore what will happen? Will it simply not boot into vista or will I get some other fail? Will it at least let me get into the bios?

2) Starting at the posted 1.45 on the core and if all is well try and decrease it afterwards?

I'm on 1.4 at 3GHZ. I started at 1.45 but it was a little toasty, but runs fine at this voltage. May try to lower it but I've current got temps of 37C idle, 50C load so im fairly happy with what I have at the moment.

I'm on stock (1.275v) vcore at 3Ghz so deffo try that first.

what temps are you getting with your E2160 at 3ghz
Its winter now but I was getting about 60+ in summer with an xp-120 + lga775 bracket.

I am running orthos with cpu stress to max, and its 40'c. I had an issue with ram, but now I upped the ram to 1.9v and its nominal 444 12 rating its fine crucial ballistix. I don't care for ultra high overclocks just something that is stable and not going to break. I had to replace my ballistix once and I bought a 2nd pair which I haven't tested yet.

I am going to test them now that I am stable with just 2 sticks in battlefield 2. Really annoying to have it crashing and wondering why.

are u using geil ultras or black dragon? i know most of the ultras are good for overclocking as they use micron chips dragons use elpida.
ive been talking to some gys on ocau that overclock the ds4 with 4x1gb of crucial ballistics and they got fairl far ,no more than 4oo fsb but still fairly well.
im thinking its your ram.
also if its post reseting itself then clear cmos then start again.
i did really well with 2gb installed 450fsb x8/900 mhz 5-5-5-10
but i needed 4gb with vista so was no use.
looks like ive scored my self a Maximus Formula (Special Edition) for 350$ a.u
some gy on ocau is selling it to me.
if its your ram holding u back , maybe trying getting some crucial ballistix ddr667 u can easily run those at 1000mhz they cost around $70 u.s and $40 delivery from p.g.n actually they may even be cheaper than that. and thats a pair!

How are you getting on with your new board?

Just got myself a GX-X38-DQ6!!
Quite impressed so far, the only thing I need to sort out is my RAM, it doesn't seen to like 2+ GB. Will maybe need to try upping the voltage but all I see is + voltage. Is the std setting 1.8v? My OCZ needs 2.3v to run at proper settings.

1.8v + 0.3v = 2.1v

I think it goes to +0.4 or +0.5v.

A word of warning though, manufacturers state the maximum rated voltage, and if ram works ok at lower voltage it will probably be safer in the long run. I just replaced my crucial ballistix that I was running @ 2.05v 1125Mhz IIRC, its rated to 2.2v

Got myself a GA-P31-DS3L yesterday and already have a Q6600 running at 3.2ghz with 1.35 vcore which I am well chuffed with, however I have been having some memory trouble with the board. After many determined attempts to run two sets of OCZ platinum rev. 2 PC6400 memory the machine just will not boot with all of it installed, my only option was to remove half of it and then it would run perfectly.

Apparantly this problem is due to a "chipset limitation" in the P31, it will only run 4x "single sided" modules and not the double sided type which most memory is today. I ended up replacing both sets of memory with one set of OCZ 4gb Vista Gold Series memory but once I got around to installing it I found out one of the new sticks were faulty! One stick would not get past POST without freezing while the other is prime stable.

Anyhoo I will be replacing those tomorrow with another identical set and hope it all works perfectly afterwards. I just want to know if anyone on here has experience with running a P31 chipset with 4gb of memory?

Gigabyte have released a Beta BIOS on their site for their 965P boards that provides unofficial support for the 45nm chips -

Is anyone using this Bios? My DS3 is on F10 and this Beta Bios is called F10f.

I've got an E8200 to go in. Do I need to perform a Bios update to run the E8200?

Just won't run with any more than 1gb in place?????
