**Gigabyte Super OC GTX 480's - VERY LOW PRICES!**

mine seems to be reasonably stable (up to 300 seconds anyway - haven't tested further) in OCCT, and fully stable in games (2 hrs Crysis, Just Cause 2 etc), at 1.075V, 820 core, and 1960 on the memory (:) )

good enough really I think - if not quite stock

hopefully if I manage a replacement PSU in the future (I have a connector issue atm - don't ask) - then I may be able to drop that further

820 core and 1960 memory has got to be almost 580 speeds - surely )

Sounds like you finally have it working reasonably well. Out of interest what software are you using to change the GPU voltage?

3 hours of Furmark and only 74! on a bench I know but thats still pretty low. I've been doing all my testing with the case pulled out from the desk and the side panel off and it gets well into the 90's in Furmark.

If I do end up RMA'ing to Gigabyte how exactly do they test? Do you think I could specify that they use Kombustor (which is just bascailly Furmark but much easier to spot errors)?

Think I might just get that PSU as I'll need it anyway and take it from there.

So what do you guys suggest as things to try to solve graphic artifacts?

Running Heaven or Furmark I don't see anything wrong. Running OCCT again I don't see anything wrong, but it thinks it finds errors. The amount it finds varies on each run.

Temps for Furmark never exceed 88.

I have removed the GPU driver and run a cleaner, then re-installed.

I have monitored temps/load with afterburner in game playing and it's usually less than when running Heaven.

All the tech demo's run fine.

I have a 650w PSU, which from reading this thread may be the issue, but is there anything I can do to tell if it's the GPU or the PSU as I would rather not splurge £100 on a PSU if I don't need it.

mmm the nice low volts on the GPU core yesterday - which passed 600+ seconds of OCCT

now gives errors after 20 seconds ! go figure

no doubting both the card, my motherboard and my PSU ! lol

very odd indeed

Spoke to overclockers tech support earlier. He thinks my card has an unstable OC that may have caused damage to the card, hence my ongoing issues. Anyway it's being RMA'd now.

Well, fingers crossed, it seems I have been one of the luckier ones, no issues at all with mine. IQ in games is excellent to say the least, though desktop IQ is no match for the 4870X2.

Did some further testing. Using Furmark I un-checked 'Dynamic backround' so there was just a still image behind the rotating fire ring. This made it much easier to spot any problems. What I noticed were quite a few little white pixels popping up, A bit like when running OCCT. This is not meant to happen right? Also downloaded the Metro demo. Running at max settings but with DX9. Just did a play through and did notice a few artfacts and quick black flashes. Gameplay is smooth though!

Another weird thing is sometimes the textures are all messed up (don't know whether it's just the game or GPU). I fix this by going into the video options and chaging the res. and then change it back. I would love to test the card running DX11 though.

I'm considering getting this card over a HD 6950/GTX 570, can anyone tell me the length? will be getting a fractal r3 case so I need to know it fits before I take the plunge.

aZz thats similar artefacting to that I get in Furmark at stock volts

in my case I'm thinking it may be the PSU not giving a decent enough 12V input into the card

YMMV

The only thing that puzzles me with mine is that sometimes after quitting a game the temperature of the gpu will stay somewhere in between what it should. It mainly idles at around 38 - 45, had half an hour or so on Mass Effect and still half an hour after that the temp sits at around the mid 60's. I know that isn't a problem as such, but I don't know why it should do it. Temps in game are very good, no problems there.

arc I think its because even though temps are low - in reality all GTX480s kick out a lot of heat. ... and a lot into your case - so depending on how hot all the air in your case has got (in my case even some of my aluminium panels was warming up nicely)- then it will take a while to drop back down
