**Gigabyte Super OC GTX 480's - VERY LOW PRICES!**

Fine so far, running it in gently. I'll install several games and run a few benchmarks before playing a game proper. It was nice though to briefly play CS:S with everything set to up to the hilt... - this is after coming from 640x480 res! :D The AA quality is excellent.

What driver are people using? Haven't had an nVidia card for a while so rather than use the disk provided I just downloaded the latest one instead (270.61).

could some of the "problems" be board temp related ? and not GPU core temp related ?

just bizarrely - I've installed new Gentle Typhoons ... one side one (new) and a 1800 at rear to replace a quieter lower rpm fan

I managed 780 core 500 seconds of OCCT with no errors - I've not managed that before

GPU temp only got to 81C

seems to be >83C the core needs more juice

but I think its more than that I think a component on the board perhaps - depending on your case cooling - isn't getting cooled as much as it should

I just ran Heaven at 820, ok core bumped to 1.075 but thats better than before

max temps were 77C

I'm testing out a number of titles atm. Initially I was getting stuttering at desktop when typing, though that has gone now, 'possibly' due to a change made in nVidia control panel. I'll report any findings, good or bad.

mmm ok just ran Heaven at Stock 1.035V and 820 core

still artefacting BUT WAY WAY less than before

temps are about 73C

now I'm not sure if its all temp related as I've taken my case side off before which didn't help the card at all - but having this side exit fan seems to be helping a lot

again perhaps there is something on the board thats now getting airflow across it that wasn't before ?

I'd love - if it didn't void the warranty to put thermal pads on those non-thermal padded memory ICs ...

with side case fan - memory definately seems more stable - even allowing for a bit of an overclock -even at higher GPU cores - which was in no way possible before - at all

How have people found the Gigabyte software that came with card? I don't want to speak too soon but I was getting stuttering and freezing in ALL games earlier, so I uninstalled that and am now using Afterburner. I just had a quick test with FEAR and it was as smooth as silk. Plenty of testing to be done yet before I have confidence back though. Temps have not been as issue at all so far.

^^ I don't think it works particularly well with latest Nvidia drivers to be honest - I found voltages all over the place - perhaps Nvidia has updated its power management etc in latest drivers ? not sure.

I'm getting better temps now for sure, after several runs of Heaven was still <80C

I think these cards with 3rd party coolers - that vent hot air into case need different mindset - and you need to be much more careful with getting that hot air out of your case - vs stock ones which tend to dump the hot air out the back of the graphics card

memory is so much more stable - again I do question the ICs without thermal pads - I've looked at reviews now and it seems that thats the design - it just seems odd not to bother on some of them - especially since reference cooler has heatsinks for all the memory ICs (AFAIK)

My last card (4870X2) had a back plate, I guess that is the only thing that I feel they could improve on here, though I expect something like that might need a bit of extra careful thought due to the design.

The SOC PCB board only hits 55c in heaven benchmark and furmark etc whilest the core hits 70+c in heaven and 90+ in furmark (stability test) after 10 mins etc

So the boards are not to bad for the heat IMO (unless im missing something)

As for the missing pad buckster I agree WHY leave it off >?< stupid huh

I have an rma from gigabyte so will be sending it tuesday,

depends where measured though - its a big board - any temp reading is not to say a singlec omponet could be getting very hot ? be it the memory ICs or some other component

but it this way - even when my temps (GPU and board temp) weren't bad - my memory wouldn't overclock - especially at higher GPU clocks

add a side fan (exhaust) and suddenly memory is much more stable and now allowing for overclocking
