Girl Geeks, we need you!

i never want to talk about pc stuff in real life.. unless i'm getting paid
You think a bunch of us would get together and talk shop? No way, there's be far more amusing stuff to talk about (like the knobbly knees of all those middle-aged men who cycle to work and wear khaki shorts in the office year-round) :D

Sarah Blow is just ugly and the whole dinner thing is nothing more than feminism in disguise.

They can have there dinners for all I care, she won't change anything in the industry.

Blimey.

1) Oh, she's not stunning! How dare she be on my screen?!
2) Feminism is about equality, not supremacy. What's wrong with that?
3) What's wrong with a group of like-minded women having a get-together?

2)As far as I have been taught, feminism is exactly about supremacy!

3)Nothing wrong with a group of like minded females having a get together, but excluding men get's a bit iffy. What's wrong is that there have been females in IT for ages but suddenly one group of females decides to blab about it and go 'ooh look at me, I'm doing a MAN'S JOB' and we all have to go 'wow, you're really doing your bit for equality'. It's blatant attention seeking. And if men suddenly did this, 'no girls allowed to LANs' or something similar, women would be in uproar.

I don't have a comment to make about point 1 :)

Sigh. It's the _bad_ feminists that go all superior. True feminism is simply striving for equal opportunities for both sexes.

No, a group of geeky females - who have managed to catch the public eye - just want to get together with other geeky females.

If they opened up these dinners to both sexes, you wouldn't even have more than half (or even a quarter) of those in attendance being female - and when basically the whole point is to have a natter and a gossip and be able to mix in female company (we like that sometimes, just as you lot like nights out with the lads) - it'd be either (a) a bit crap for the men who turn up, or (b) suddenly not very girly an occasion at all.
