Girl Geeks, we need you!

No see this is the bit I'm having problems with. How is equality divisive?
Maybe he's trying to say "Vive la difference"?

I could understand that. Men and women /are/ different but that doesn't mean the /opportunities/ provided both sides shouldn't be equal

The actual uptake of certain paths may differ based on sex but as long as there are no sex-based barriers then it's all hunky-dory. I think (at least in this country) we're pretty much there, anyway.

And back on topic - I don't think (apart from an ogling perspective) the majority of men will want to be at these dinners anyway!

Many people will have problems because these are very subtle concepts that aren't easily conveyed in a few words. That's why most people have to either meditate or do LSD to see the 'other side'.

There's two states in a human being. Wholeness and division. Most people have spent the whole waking lives in division they aren't even aware there's another state.

Check out this guy called J.Krishnamurti :- http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7fzV8QH1JeE

Loads of videos of him on youtube. He was way ahead of time and possibly one of the wisest men to ever come to earth.

Blimey.

1) Oh, she's not stunning! How dare she be on my screen?!
Agreed.
2) Feminism is about equality, not supremacy. What's wrong with that?
No, feminism is about rights for women.
3) What's wrong with a group of like-minded women having a get-together?
Nothing*.

*As long as there is underwear and pillows involved :p.

Is he a lizard man too?

True Islam is about peace, but that doesn't mean it hasn't been hijacked by extremists. In my experience most feminists aren't striving for equality but striving for their own ambtions of male-orientated power and dominance.

And equality is a flawed concept that maintains and creates the very problems it tries to solve. The worlds problems will be solved when humans start working towards unity or oneness instead fractured and divisive concepts like equality.

This.

In an attempt to create a more equal society...positive discrimination.
But that has nothing to do with equality as a concept. That's people striving to artifically create equality. I'm sorry, but I still don't get how equality is divisive. Equality stresses that, at the end of the day, we're all human, and should all treat each other like we would like to be treated ourselves. Essentially egalitarianism.

But hey, this is OcUK right? Any attempt by anyone not white or male to do anything with other non-white or male people is instantly given the "Oh that's so unfair, I bet we couldn't have a MALE/WHITE version of that ", regardless of the actual purpose of it.

I mean jesus, we're arguing about some women having dinner together. Do people not realise this happens anyway, without the title?

I personally didn't know it was happening regarding my OP.

As in, I didn't realise female geeks were meeting up etc to discuss femininism and how to hack their way onto the internetz, etc.

I'm not actually arguing with anyone, just pointing out how equality can be divisive.

Of course in concept it's fine..

Don't tell anyone becuase it's a secret only us women know but...... Whenever we get together we always have pillows and underwear involved, it's only when there are men about to see that we put our clothes back on

...it's a fact you know, the reason why some women can't achieve what they want in their careers is that they are too busy prancing about in their underwear wielding pillows! Hang on that could be a career in itself ;):D
