Glastonbury...

and now the bbc gushing over it. now if only they would send 1000 staff to download or knebworth to cover them.

It was clearly a watered down setlist for the Glasto crowd, pretty much played the safe bet with most of the black album with a few of the ballady types (unforgiven, nothing else matters, fade to black) chucked in.

In all honesty i was happy to hear the crowd singing along, seemed to have quite a few tallica fans in there.

As for the complaints about the sound quality etc i wouldnt be comparing metallica playing a festival against them playing somwehere that is suited to their sound.

If its their own gig with their own sound crew imbedded, plenty of time to gte their set up perfect etc.

Was watching the livestream on glastocam before the gig and you could hear the sound guys struggling to get soundchecks finished just before they went on stage.

Only thing i found a bit cringeworthy was the "fans" they had in the background all seemed a bit too manufactured for me.

Also the foxhunting intro was clearly designed to stick two fingers up at the press they had about james hunting and was a good laugh :)

I thought it was a good set.. Agree Kirk is dire, though the tones were a bit weak and maybe they should have stuck with the Triaxis they were using. Maybe it was the mix but the guitar just didn't sound great. They were good, but not as good as pre digital Metallica. (for those who don't know, Metallica are now using AxeFX for 100% of their guitar and bass sounds)

Hetfield is a God and can do no wrong.. he's my idol and IMHO one of the greatest metal guitarists of all time.

Was very impressed that they actually brought out and used an acoustic for some songs. Often use recorded intros and it's so painfully obvious at times.

1 thumb up! :D

Thought they did pretty well. Good to see the crowd getting into it. Shame about Kirk's messed up solo's but apart from that I thought it was a good set for the show.

Oh and the bbc guy doing the broadcast mix needs to be shot, it was horrendous and took a lot away from the performance IMO

I've enjoyed what I've seen. Chvrches, Skrillex and Four Tet were all good. Just a shame it's clashing with ESL One and the World Cup. Will have to catch up this week!

Creeping death did not need to be played that fast! I was trying to play along with it and failing badly.

No blackened? sad face. Nothing compared to their set at the last Sonisphere.

Name a band that did not play a greatest hits set at Glasto? I liked the Metallica set myself. At least the crowd knew the songs more than can be said of that crock of XXXX Jay-Z a few years ago.
