GOG , Good Old Games - Official Thread

How compatible are these games with the newer versions of windows? I've seen a game from the 90s that I have which currently isn't that compatible with XP!

Very , they are tested on all versions of windows.

Example Baldurs Gate - Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit)

Have had problems: added BG to my cart and then opened cart to pay. Then entered card details and clicked purchase button - Firefox then hung on a blank screen.

Fired up IE and logged into gog and BG was there in my account.

Downloading now at 855KB/sec which is my broadband max.

So they are having some issues I guess but their servers can't be getting hit that much as the dl speed is top notch. :)

i dont know why this sort of site doesnt do the following:

download smt like Baldurs Gate but with mods installed e.g. high res. or you could pick and choose which mods to have installed.

So no faffing about yourself with the mods just click on an exe and bam you get to play ye olde Baldurs Gate but up-to-date.

I know atm the game you dl is usually patched up to date.

meh another missed opportunity coz id buy tons of older games if they were spruced up for today.

Surely its enough that they have gone through the hassle of getting these old games to run on modern OS's? Its normally a pain in the ass to get older games working.

They also some time do some mod highlights, I think I remember them showing a load of nice mods for the old Far Cry once.

They've got three free games at the minute.

Beneath A Steel Sky. :D
Lure of the Temptress. :)
Teenagent.

I have heard rumours that Lucasarts are looking at redoing Xwing vs Tie fighter again and possibly Sam & Max and Indiana Jones & the fate of Atlantis.

I love going back to my old games of X-com: Terror from the Deep and Mech Commander 2 - fairly basic but definitely good fun! Have heard that some guys have picked up X-com TFTD and are working on it for free somewhere.

I wish they stocked more really old games (pre-2000). I really miss titles such as Fragile Allegiance, Dungeon Keeper, Theme Park, North vs South, Elite, etc...

Fragile allegiance, one hell of a good game I googled it and have found that its classed as abandonware so I may try and get it working tonight. Wonder if I can remeber what all those icons do!

I'm just saying - i would pay extra - for modded versions. A lot of games are enhanced considerably by mods released for them to name a few.... Oblivion, Stalker SOC, NWN 1+2, Arcanum etc.

Its something that afaik no other online retailer service actually does. Its about enriching your gaming experience you see :)

This seems unlikely, there's no reference to it that I can find and you can still buy it in the shops :/

I've had a look, theres an Open Source clone version kicking about which is meant to be pretty good, might give it a look although I did see TH in Game somewhere recently for a fiver.

Yeah, I'm going mad.... it was the open source version I was thinking off...... I thought it was official.

Am I the only one missing the point? Games you can get for 99p from a car boot sale for $10 downloaded?

Great games but at $10 each... its pretty bad value, right? I paid £9.99 for Baldurs Gate, retail boxed, 5 years ago!
