GOG , Good Old Games - Official Thread

Well, their cynical marketing stunt worked on me as I bought Fallout and Fallout 2 when the site came back up.

Never played any of them before but started Fallout the other night and am quite enjoying it. I thought the intro sequence was brilliantly done and set the scene perfectly.

I noticed GOG has Planscape Torment. Ive been waiting for a long time for that!
At least i dont have to spend stupid amounts to buy it of Amazon now.

If I was as confident about GOG as I am with Steam, then I would certainly buy more titles from them. As it stands I have 3 games and didn't pay for any of them.

:D

Finaly after years of telling people to play them someone has :D

i dont know why this sort of site doesnt do the following:

download smt like Baldurs Gate but with mods installed e.g. high res. or you could pick and choose which mods to have installed.

So no faffing about yourself with the mods just click on an exe and bam you get to play ye olde Baldurs Gate but up-to-date.

I know atm the game you dl is usually patched up to date.

meh another missed opportunity coz id buy tons of older games if they were spruced up for today.

I'd be amazed if such a thing was legal, most of the mods will probably have clauses prohibiting their distribution in chargable/modified format (GPL licensing or whatever). If you are a mod author you are not going to let some wideboy slap your mod on top of a game they are charging money for. It would also open up a huge can of worms with regard to support, a 3rd party mod could easily break a game and GOG are not going to want to have to support that.

yeah it wasnt a serious thought just dreaming... a way to make PC gaming more accessible but still very moddable would be nice - some people dont have time to go through the 100s of mods available. e.g. baldurs gate ...loads of mods.. oblivion gazillions of mods..just dont have the time to sort through them!

:eek::eek::eek:

Icewind Dale is one of the best-known role-playing games out there. It is often compared to Baldur's Gate, since both games use the same engine the same mechanics and are set in the Forgotten Realms universe. Today's release a lot more combat-oriented, but that doesn't mean you won't find a compelling story and an abundance of quests here as well. A very cool feature (powergamers rejoice!) is that you can, and should, create an entire party before you start your journey - stats, skills, portraits, descriptions, alignments, everything. Overall, a fantastic cRPG, complete with two expansion packs - Heart of Winter and Trials of The Luremaster.

Heh, GoG have got my number. I own all these old classics, yet here I am buying them all again to save myslef the hassle of Win7ising them.

Lazy git, so I am ^_^

I bought the forgotten realms deluxe box a few years back. Has IWD 1 and 2 (all expansions) Balders gate 1 and 2 (all expansions) and nwn 1 with all expansions. All for about £12.

Best buy I ever made!

All work fine on Win7 right off the bat. Well a part from win7 not being able to disable direct draw, which only effects IWD 2, easly sorted though.

I would be interested to see if they can fix it if they release IWD2.

You can get the Icewind Dake 3 in 1 pack, includes IWD, expansion and IWD 2 for around £10 on amazon.

Same with Baldurs Gate 4 in 1 pack. BG 1 and 2 plus an expansion for each game for £10.

GOG is good but they do not have the monopoly on old games at bargain prices.

Like everyone keeps repeating, it is all good and well being able to pick up these old games very cheap but there is no guarantee they work on newer OS, like win7 x64 etc

For example I have Dungeon Keeper 2, it works on win 7 x64 but it is very unstable and crashes loads. continually using the quick save feature as it can crash at any time. If GOG were to release DK2 that was stable on win7 then it would be an instant purchase for me.

I recently tried re-installing Fallout 1 and 2 from my old boxes but had serious problems getting the games to work on Win7. GOG offer both these games so I might pick them up from there.

This is one of the best RPGs I have ever played. Highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't played it yet. If you're into Forgotten Realms setting, played real RPGs before and enjoy fantasy worlds based on D&D rules, this is a must-have. Shame I cannot find a copy of my game, also had a sequel but they're long gone I'm afraid.
