Thanks to the other thread (for some reason I rarely even think to visit this one), I am now downloading FO. Let's see what all the fuss is about. :D

How well does fallout run on modern machines? I know a lot of old games like that can be a pain to get working (requiring things like dosbox, or simply refusing to work at all).

Worked fine for me. One of the perks of GOG is they apply fixes to get old games working in modern OS'es.

Just be warned the UI and graphics aren't that pretty by 2012 standards. Also, I hope you like turn-based combat :)

Cheers for the heads up. :)

I've loaded the game and just watched the intro, very nice. I have seen a little footage on Youtube, and although I do like the graphics to be nice, I also value the game play elements of the experience, so hopefully it'll balance out enough. I'm not really used to turn based combat, though it is something that I'm keen to try. The last time I regularly got involved with it was in table top pen and paper rpg's like D&D and AD&D. :D

The SPECIAL stat system is a little different. Then you've got perks and action points. Some of the skills are pretty useless, but I'll let you figure out the character build because it's part of the fun.
