Going bald before you're 40

My brother starting losing his hair late teens and started shaving it all off by 24/25. My other brother was really starting to thin out then had chemotherapy and it came back thicker and darker!

A good 10 years later and it's still the same pretty much.

I'm 26 and pretty much a full head still, maybe thinning in corners a little.

Bit of a thread revival, but has anybody had or thought about a hair transplant? I have a severely balding crown and due to the shape of my head the buzzcut / skinhead look simply does not suit me. I'm giving it some thought.

Gracious, no. I suppose I'm lucky being in my forties, that aside from some thinning and greying I still have a full, if not thick, head of hair. Transplants are only a temporary fix. I know it's a kicker, especially for younger men, but the only real critic is you. No-one else will much cares.

I’ve looked into this as I am thinning rapidly and have a slight bald patch starting even though I am only young. You only have to look at some of the celebs to see that hair transplants do actually work. Look at James Nesbitt, Calum Best, Duncan Bannatyne, Jude Law etc before and after but I think it depends how far gone your hair is. Someone like Wayne Rooney was too far gone for his to ever look good but if you get it done properly where they implant each hair into the head while you still have a good amount of hair then it can be worth while.
I have a friend who took the cheap option and went abroad to get it done for something like 1.5k all in and it looks like he’s sprinkled pubes on to his head it’s awful.

35 and bald as a coot. If I were to let what's left of my hair to grown it would be all patchy like I have alopecia or something.

I shave it off regularly now, keep it right down as that's the best option.

I've grown a rather thick beard too through the winter and that draws a lot of attention so I'll take that.

See a shaved head and beard can look cool and masculine especially if you lift weights or have good tattoos and many women dig that but I have the strangest shaped head that just looks ridiculous without hair :D I’m hanging on to my hair for as long as possible lol. I did have a shaved head when I was like 18 and being tall etc everyone thought i was a thug which annoys me that they would judge based on a haircut

The way you say you've a weird shaped head, I can't get the image of Coneheads film out of my head lol.
Lol :D no it’s just abit of a bump at the back of my head looks weird when it’s shaved but unnoticeable with hair. You need a perfectly shaped round dome to rock a skinhead imo

Go bald gracefully. Like this guy.

I've always thought a nice square of carpet tied on your head with some string under the chin is a good look to sport for those follically challenged. Hardly anyone would notice and they would think it was a cool hair style, particularly if it was a shag pile. You could even have a parting. It is a low cost solution as you could pop into carpet right and make off with the sample book for lots of different styles. This would save hundreds on syrups which to be honest, never look that convincing.

I think anyone would have a hard time spotting that he is wearing what is essentially a wig they look so real. Apparently the company has really taken off over the last year they have tons of vids on YouTube of there work.
Although if you walk into work the next day with a full head of stylish hair instead of a bald head then I think one or two might realise :D

minoxidil and propecia/finpecia really is hit and miss, many say they only really work when you start taking it before you start going bald or your hair starts thinning so that is the catch 22 situation.

If you started at say 18-21, good chance you may keep some hair or all of it for a good while (maybe 5 or 15 years), in mid 20s it gets worse. It was never meant to be a real or long term fix really, I noticed its effects dropped after 5-6 years but tbh it never really worked in first place but I started both treatments
at 30 when it got too bad, so it was too late for me.

Much better off looking at Hair transplants if you got few grand savings

not tried this but someone linked it on other forum maybe of some use, I heard treatments done in Turkey are around 5-6K sometimes cheaper

The classic toupee also a good option

This ones new I think they say its like getting a tatoo on your head ! Called
Micropigmentation

But I heard you have to shave your actual head every day or other day otherwise the effect is gone

For best results you're right it does need to be taken as early as possible. I've already started taking finasteride at the age of 27 before I get any hair loss.
