Going bald before you're 40

37 here, got a widows peak so always had a higher hairline than most but hair was always very thick so covered it .Now noticed slowly receding hairline. Not awful by any stretch but got me worried!

Do hair transplants work? Any people have experience with Regaine etc on here? Recommmendations?

My hair started receding a lot when i was about 22. I'm 35 now and it's very sparse and i have to keep a number 1 or 1/2 really. Funnily enough i didn't mind for years but it's only recently that i genuinely started feeling a bit bitter about it and wishing that i'd have been better blessed in that department. Oh well, at least i had time to get used to it. What will be with be.

IMO when i notice a bald headed man it doesnt really make me take notice, especially if they have facial hair. It's only when they bald and baby-ish ala Matt Lucas it looks odd to me.

Who else is going bald before they hit the big 40? I'm 38.
How are you dealing with it?
I've tried just shaving it all off down to a number one but it looked too severe and I still looked bald, not just a guy with a crew cut if you know what I mean :(
At the moment I've just left it to grow and it's a bit of a state but I don't know what to do grrr.

Go full Trump. Get the biggest toupe ever.

I've been going grey since 15 and now at 24 it's pretty grey but now my hairline is starting to recede a bit. Don't really bother me to be honest, can't really do much about it so I just leave it.

Mine started going grey in my late 20's really started going apiece in my 30's and hair loss became a big issue. 20 years later its almost white and getting very thin on top. Figure its my mother's fathers genes he was as bald as a coot my fathers still got a good head of hair in his 70's though very grey.

Just shave it off. Got rid of mine a couple years ago when I was 35. Trying to cling on to a hairstyle when your hair is nearly gone is just, in the words of Trump...Sad.

^^ This. Best way to deal with thinning hair is to cut it short. Looks smart, and shows the world you have the confidence to accept what's happening.

See Patrick Stewart for a prime example.

I started losing mine in college when I was 18 yet everyone else in my family had a full head of hair until at least their 60s. No clue who I inherited this from. Now 36 and have been shaving it off with a 0.5 guard for at least a decade. The look doesn't bother me in the slightest but I always get caught out by the first post winter/spring sun burn of the year around May time. :o

I remember a kiddie at school in his final year going bald on top. Made him look at least 20 years older. Bizaare.

Hairline started receding in my mid twenties, thinning/bald patch at the back or I noticed it at 30-31. Suck, of course but it is what it is. Considered regaine, finasteride etc but ultimately chose to shave it. Now I usually razor it off every other day.

Got a twin brother with a full head of hair, not even receding, so thems the way the chips fall sometimes. Plus side is, I never have hat hair, can be up and out the door for work in like 10 minutes and save a load of money on hair products. Buying products to try and keep your hair just costs a lot, might help save it for a little while but chances are it won't last forever and can have some nasty side effects. Hair transplants cost a lot, take up to a year or look "normal", ie. wait for your transplanted hair to shed and allow new hair to grow in etc and if you have had an area of your hair transplanted, you will still need meds or more transplants to cover the other areas that you will inevitably continue to bald in.

Best option I think is shave it off or trim it short. You'll get used to it!

24 and got a bald patch in the back of my head. However i believe this could have been caused by a bad barber. Going to grow it out again and then go for my usual 2 or 3 all over. I do also have a weird patch of beard that only grows white hair. This seems to have turned up in a relatively small period of time. The skin looks slightly different to the surrounding skin too. Weird. Might see a doctor about it just to get an understanding of what it is/cause.

always knew I'd go bald so started shaving my head before it got too bad. love having a shaved head though so not an issue for me! been doing it for nearly 20 years now

Battery Sgt Major Williams: You know why that is don’t you? You’ve got such a huge brain. It’s rubbing on the inside out and wearing your head out.

My doctor said monoxodil (products like rogaine) were hit and miss and may not be worth the investment. I'm getting desperate though. My hair is falling out and I am losing my hairline at an alarming rate. At this rate I will be bald completely in 4-8 years I think.

My old barber knew many people who had hair transplants. He said it is critical to view their previous work and go with somebody who does hair by hair rather than plugs or it looks worse than being bald. I don't know if there is truth to that but he's the hair guy, not me...

It's too bad they cant move your leg hair to your head because I've got enough leg hair for 3-4 human heads no problem. Many women have commented negatively on it... but what do I do? Wax? And then I have to keep up with it? Too much work.

minoxidil and propecia/finpecia really is hit and miss, many say they only really work when you start taking it before you start going bald or your hair starts thinning so that is the catch 22 situation.

If you started at say 18-21, good chance you may keep some hair or all of it for a good while (maybe 5 or 15 years), in mid 20s it gets worse. It was never meant to be a real or long term fix really, I noticed its effects dropped after 5-6 years but tbh it never really worked in first place but I started both treatments
at 30 when it got too bad, so it was too late for me.

Much better off looking at Hair transplants if you got few grand savings

not tried this but someone linked it on other forum maybe of some use, I heard treatments done in Turkey are around 5-6K sometimes cheaper

The classic toupee also a good option

This ones new I think they say its like getting a tatoo on your head ! Called
Micropigmentation

But I heard you have to shave your actual head every day or other day otherwise the effect is gone

Heh, as they say, hair in all the wrong places.

I'm 42 and I started losing my hair in my very early 20's, it never really bothered me to be honest.

I had my head shaved for the first time the day Saving Private Ryan came out at the cinema!! I shave it once a week, no guard. Having hair again would feel weird!

I started balding in my late 20s and have tried to keep my head shaved all the time. Unfortunately, I'm extremely lazy and only do it every few months so I do go for a few weeks at a time looking bit of a mess. :p

I've not ever cared about it but was annoyed the other day to pluck a long hair growing out of my ear. I'm too young for that FFS!!
