Golf Thread

I'm sure it will be a good experience with all the water/sea etc but it looks a bit boring as a course - no trees, line of sight issues, heavy rough etc.

It is brutal for me with my only play a few times a year no handicap should have just stayed on the beach :p

I don't like to take my phone out of the bag so hardly get any pictures but here are a few from the club house and by the Croquet club!

Played a few nice courses though up around my parents house, Waterlefe, Esplanade, Greenfield Plantation, Legacy Lakewood Ranch, University Park Sarasota to name a few, Sarasota/Bradenton area is not bad at all.
So more than made up for that one, was an experience though staying at the Gasparilla Inn, very old world, they come and pick you and your clubs up from the hotel and there are no tee times, just start when there is space!

Do any of you chaps use/are there any good apps/websites for finding people to play rounds with?

I travel a lot with work and take my clubs so could play anywhere from the west coast of Wales, up to Inverness or down to Ramsgate but I'm not a fan of playing solo.

Even when at home, apart from work mates who I only tend to do work rounds with ad they have their own golf partners, I only have 1 friend who plays and he pays a £700 membership and tends to not want to play away from his member course. So even at home I struggle for a round at times.

Cheers!

May as well post this in here. Was asked by one of the guys in my office to take part in a charity match on Friday in aid of MS so myself, this guy along with my boss and his brother took part.

I haven't played in 6 yrs (last handicap was 11) and was given a generous 15 handicap for the sake of the competition. Par 72 course, Montrose Royal, went out in 2 over par, fell apart in the second half but finished off with an 83 / 84 (I forget) and the team finished one off the prizes!

I should maybe start golfing again!

Just enjoy it mate :)

I've developed one hell of a nasty slice with my woods, at the range on Saturday I was producing consistent 90 degree fades and have no idea what's going wrong. Think I need another lesson :(

Well it was as bad as I thought :p

Went round in 33 over, had some decent holes and some lovely shots but still just getting back into the swing of things (no pun intended) and my tee shots particularly let me down.

Going to keep going with the expectation that this summer is a write off, get a few more lessons and just keep plugging away.

Don't worry, you're certainly not alone. I've been having golf lessons (I thought it was finally time I sorted out my inconsistent swing and my problems with the 'early release') and although I'm sure what the golf pro has been teaching me will pay off in the long-run, it's been playing havoc with my game. I played a round at the weekend and it was close to the worst I'd ever played. I lost 7 balls over the course of the round of 18 and just couldn't get things going.

It is a bit disheartening at times but keep telling myself it will pay off in the long run, I packed in 6 years ago and just restarted but the lad I played with kept going (with a few smaller breaks) and he plays off 12 now so there is some light if I keep going :)

The worst part is I play some truly fantastic shots, but then play 3 or 4 complete duffers in a row.

As you said too I have taken some lessons and whilst I understand what it is doing it is a nightmare adjusting at the moment :p

Yeah I'm exactly the same. One hole from Saturday exemplifies my golf game at the moment. It was a 380 yard par 4 and I absolutely smashed my drive straight down the middle of the fairway, leaving myself no more than about 100-110 yards into the green. I then proceeded to under-hit my approach straight into a damp, high-sided green-side bunker that I took 3 shots to get out of and ended up walking away with a double bogey when I should have at the very worst got a par.

I guess it's like any sport really. You'll see Sunday league football players score the occasional incredible goal - the type that any pro would be proud of - but they might only do it once in a blue moon.

Rory must be gutted that the first pic of him with his new GF got photobombed...

Well I had my best round since starting to play again.

Finished second with 28 points, I was ten behind with 3 left and got 9 points in the 3 holes and the leader bottled it but had enough of a lead :p:(

Was 38 over all told which isn't great but I had 6 really **** holes apart from that I was pretty consistently par/birdie (with the handicap)

Really happy that I can see some progress :)

That'll teach to play a good round, went round Laceby Manor today near Grimsby and I was awful :p

Went round in 50 over, it was the front 9 that really murdered me I was only 4 shots worse than I should have been on the back 9 but the front was just horrific. I smartened up toward and played the lovely 18th with a great tee shot to finish with a par but all in all another "learning" round :(:p

Course was all right, nice looking and the fairways were lush but the greens were **** which really didn't help me. Apparently they've just replaced half of them and you could tell, half had little grass and were like Teflon and the other half was akin to playing in treacle. Really bad mark against an otherwise nice course.

Nice stone cold topped 3 wood on 18 as well from Woods - even the american commentators said it was hard to watch someone like this. He's a mess at the moment and needs to take a year off and sort out his swing.

38 points today in the members cup 10 points after 8 28 points over the next 10, will take me back down to 15 14.9 exact
