i200's are pretty, still rocking the i20's at the moment although not playing too much these days after falling out of love with the game last year.

I did play last weekend and shot 80 gross for 37 points first game in a while and breaking handicap and not losing a ball was a nice change. Unfortunately there seems to be a lot trying to bring me back, people got me lots of golf related stuff for xmas, new lockers have been installed which tempted me to get the kit out the garage and back up the club. Hearts not really in it but finding myself being dragged along regardless

The i200s really are nice. Everything I had hoped for. Nice looking, compact, but with a little help when needed.
2 Range sessions with them now, and I have nothing but praise for them. I trust the guy that fitted me, but you never really know till you hit them in anger.
Next step is to go back to my fitter, and get some actual number's from the launch monitor throughout the set. We can them make any slight loft adjustments to give me some consistent gapping.
All based on me hitting it properly of course :p

I now need to shift my set of I15s (4-pw, 52w,58w, 5w & Hybrid).

Ooo yeah those i200s look lovely!

I'm thinking of getting a brand new set of irons this year but don't really know what to go for. My handicap is 20 and I started playing roughly a year and a half ago.

Current clubs were given to me by a family friend (Mizuno TP9 Blades). As you can imagine not the easiest set of irons to take up playing golf with but I've learnt to strike them quite well.

Any suggestions on what to test out?

Pick a set you like the look of and go to a fitting centre that specialises in the brand and has all the options for you to test.

There is no one club that is better than another - your strike will dictate far more about where the ball goes and how it gets there than the club you are hitting it with, so start on looks first and then start playing around with lie angle, then shaft weight, then flex.

For me, it's all about the club finish (I like a misted finish, not chrome) and a thin top-line. And once I found something that suited my eye, I set about dialling in the shaft and now have a set which is way above my pay grade in terms of quality, but that I can hit purely and enjoy playing with.

Golf should be about fun and your enjoyment, so find a set of clubs you like and don't worry if they aren't aimed at the level you think you are at.

You know what, try out everything. I always seem come back to Ping Irons myself. I started out with Ping G10's, then moved to Ping i25's(Should never have sold them), then to Titleist AP2, then to Mizuno JPX 900 Forged then finally back to Ping G Irons.

Don't take this the wrong way but, playing with blades is not easy. It may be that your a 20 handicapper because you can't putt, chip or drive very well, but why make this game harder than it already is!!

When you test irons at American Golf or wherever, they generally only have the 7 iron for testing. What you really need to test is the 4,5 and 6 irons. This is where the so called better player iron is less forgiving. I currently play off 4.8 and I consider myself a good iron player, but if a 4, 5 or 6 iron is not out of the middle you are going to lose distance and be punished. This is where the more forgiving irons can help, and believe me, they help in a big way.

I could probably game a combo set, 4,5,6 iron in a forgiving model, such as the Ping G. Then 7,8,9,PW in a players iron, such as the AP2, JPX900 Forged, Calaway Apex Pro but in all honesty I don't think i will benefit.

Glitch is right, shaft, flex and weight of the shaft play a huge part in finding what is right for you. These things will also change the flight, the speed of your swing and distance you hit the ball.

Consider this : A 100mph Swing Speed with a driver will get you 250 Yards : For every 1 mph you get 2.5 yards. If you use a shaft that is 10% lighter, your swing speed will now be 110mph and your new driver distance will be 275 yards. (I have had a few beers I hope this checks out correct ).

To echo Glitch again, golf is about enjoyment. No one cares what clubs you use, only what score is on the card.

Having said all that, them i200's look sweet!

How do you work this out? Just because the shaft is 10% lighter, it doesn't automatically translate to swinging it 10% faster? You may even find that a lighter shaft does not suit your swing and you actually get worse distance (and dispersion) - I would advise trying as many different options as you can to find the one that gives you the best result (and don't forget there is no industry standard with regards to flex so don't dismiss a stiff shaft if you normally play regular etc)

Cheers guys, I'll have a browse in our local American Golf and see which ones I like the look of and then maybe approach my clubs PGA guy for lessons and a custom fitting if he does that.

My driver is a Ping G30 with a stiff shaft and I really like it so I'd imagine I'd go for stiff shafts in my irons too.

I doubt I'll realistically get them until late summer this year but will update on what I go for :)

Ok let me re-look at what I said now i'm sober :)

A lighter shaft will definitely equate to a faster swing speed providing the same swing is applied, it may ruin your tempo, it may make you hit the ball shorter due to this. You may get a worse dispersion obviously, it might even be straighter who knows. I was trying to use a generic example to be honest. However, let's say I hit a ball with a 130mph swing, if i put a massive slice on it obviously it wont go 250 yards, that's just common sense. Nothing will fix that, only lessons, not shaft, not flex, nor a draw biased golf club.
I was thinking more along the lines of a robot swinging a club and hitting the perfect shot everytime. Obviously our swings can differ massively from one swing to the next, were not robots. But in a test environment, this is how the manufacturers can test clubs. I saw Titleist recently showing how many 1000's of RPM are lost once a wedge had been used for 100 shots or something (Please don't quote me on that), that was a robot they used to hit the wedge shots so every one was perfect.

I did say to try everything :)

So guys we are here again, Masters week Magnolia lane is calling and I'm sure everyone has fore warned gf/wives/partners/bits on the side that you'l be disappearing for the next week.

What bets have we all got on?

Currently looking at;
Bubba 30/1
Scott 25/1
Casey 40/1
Matsuyama 18/1
Schwatzel 70/1

Just each way at a couple quid a pop anyone else seen sully at 200/1 tempting at those odds especially as paddy is paying top 8

Yup, Now TV is being subscribed to on Wednesday for the week, wife and kids warned off in advance!
Punt wise, I think Rose, Rory, DJ and Sergio as an outsider for ew. All a bit predictable but can see a very tight leaderboard this year.

Is bizarre they don't even have a radio stream for the Masters until tonight.

I understand they want to protect ticket prices etc. but there are hundreds of thousands of us wanting to watch or listen to the golf who aren't going to be rocking up at Augusta regardless of the TV schedule.

I think the same thing every year. Even when they did start the live broadcast last night they spent the first hour talking and then started showing some actual golf, by which point lots of golfers had finished and the rest were on the back nine. It's bizarre, it's the biggest and most hyped golf tournament of the year, yet they only show about 50% of it. It would be like not televising the group stages of the world cup.

BBC red button had live group coverage (I watched the later selected groups of Rory/Kuchar and Mickelson/speith) for hours on the bbc website/red button before live regular coverage started.
