Definately go for 2nd hand, you should get something from 2-3yrs ago for that money. Nike, Taylormade or Callaway with a reg flex shaft.

You also have the possibility of not using the driver too, just plug away with the 3 wood or 4 iron until you have a repeatable consistant swing and then think about investing some money in a driver fitting.

Theres a decent looking Lynx predator Ti-380 on the bay of e. As a high handicap i used that and also a Wilson staff pd5, both very pretty forgiving and fairly long.

I had a lesson the other week as I was hitting about 2/3 of my shots either to the right or left (though mainly left)

The professional at Romanby showed me how to alter my grip, which basically involved using my right hand to push through the swing and grip 90% with my left hand - letting my right hand guide it rather than gripping it. He showed me that if I gripped too hard with my right hand, I would hook it left as I was pulling the club too far around my body after striking the ball.

As others have said, it is very awquard to diagnose over the internet (and I'm not exactly a good player!) but that's just what I was told and when I get my grip set up correctly the shots go dead straight :)

After some advice on mine, I've been down the range tonight, standing a bit closer to the ball did help a bit on my drives, some coming off quite smooth and arrow straight, but still quite a lot veering off the right, some more pronounced than others!

Whilst I was there I booked a 30 minute lesson for tomorrow, hopefully will be able to find out from someone who can see all angles etc.. whats going wrong :D

Went to the range myself yesterday as my driving has got really bad again. Started rubbish, then seemed to get it going. Off to the course today - front 9 driving ok but not great, back 9, driving rubbish again!

Grrr, this game is so frustrating sometimes

Going to book another lesson before I throw my driver down the fairway :D

Well, had my lesson this morning, and already getting such a better drive than before, got my stance sorted with him and fixed the problems with my backswing, still knocking about 10-15% off with a big slice, ut now I can feel when its going wrong and why it is happening, definitely fully worth the money, enjoyed it, great teacher and feel like I have learnt what I wanted to learn and take from it :D

Now to see if its reflected on course! :D

Which Golf Balls?

Hey all,

I need to buy a load of new balls, as I'm running low. I managed to get a load of really cheap Pro V1's and some nice soft Nikes, Srixons and Callaways for dirt cheap a while back.

I can't see myself coughing up for them again, especially as I'll never get them so cheap. I need something soft (I can't stand hard balls), with good feel and decent stopping on/around greens. I'm not a very good golfer by any means, but I know I prefer the way a soft ball plays.

So basically what I'm asking is - are there any decent 'budget' soft feel balls out there? Perhaps Dunlops or something, I don't know.

Any suggestions would be awesome!

Found my first Pro V1 on the course yesterday in pristine condition :D

Not paying that much for a ball so gonna try my best not to lose this one ;)

I use Precept Laddie Xtreme (about £10-12 for 12) when I don't feel like losing ProV's :D

They're pretty decent around the green and fairly soft. Also like Wilson Titanium DNA balls too (£20 for 36), but they're not quite as soft as the Laddie's.

There really is nothing in the budget range that comes remotely close to the ProV's (mainly because the budget range are only 2 piece). I fancy trying some Bridgestone or Nike balls next. Been hearing good things about both.

Just thought i would make you guys aware of a site i came across the other day. I have nowt to do with it, but it has started to come in handy for a number of things.

http://www.mulliganplus.com/

You can track scores for an unlimited number of rounds, input golf stats to get a detailed breakdown/analysis of your game, add friends so you can share scores/mini-leagues etc.

Myself and a few mates have started to track our sat/sun rounds using it and it's been really handy.

http://www.howdidido.co.uk/

This is the website i use as my club is linked to it. Every medal round i play is tracked on there and i can even embelish it (haven't bothered) so i know how many fairwarys i hit in a round, or perhaps how many sand saves etc from all of my competitions if i wish. I can then compare my stats to a huge database.

howdidido is great if you are a member of a club, if not then you are stuffed as they dont cater for non-club members (at least they didn't last time i emailed them). There are quite a few score trackers out there for free, but i have yet to find one with the added functionality of the leagues and buddies that mulligans does.

Yeah i thought it was club membership based but i only started to have a look around it a few days back as my club started putting up posters about it.

It is quite nice to see what holes you are good and bad on over the course, tells you where you need to concentrate more :)

I use a site called golfshake.com
It's pretty good in that you can set up societies, etc and if it hasn't got a scorecard for a club on it, you can add one.
It works out an un-official handicap for you as well if you want to, plus you can also put in number of putts etc.
Pretty good for free, or you can upgrade for £15 a year and get a proper handicap.
I've been using it for about 4 years now.

Gap wedge/ Lob wedge.

How useful would you say they are, and do you think it is worth buying them if you are a reasonably high handicapper?
