Edit: BTW, the still frame picture doesn't do it justice. As they embraced and then moved apart, the trail of drool stretched to a quite ridiculous length, blowing in the wind as it did, before it finally broke and twanged about for a bit, before it finally began to hang vertically down, all in super slo mo. Poor old Ole totally oblivious to it all.

Brilliant day again - great entertainment - Looks amazing at the start then VERY shaky in the middle but a solid win in the end.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the balls on Max Homa - To take an unplayable lie, and have the confidence to step up knowing you need to get up and down to not "loose" the Ryder Cup is unreal.

Max is a star for sure. Best American player by a mile this week.

Him and Cantlay the stand out two for sure.

Good to see Max Homa showing some emotion - he seems like a bit of a robot when he’s playing on the PGA tour.

Be interesting to see why the Netflix documentary’s like given the US team blocked their access.

Unlike the rest of you I got out this afternoon (watched up until 2:30pm at which point knew Europe had it in the bag), nice and quiet as you'd expect :p

First few holes were not so great but then started to warm up. Ended up hitting some very nice shots and my iron play is definitely starting to improve. A couple of things helping me. Firstly standing in a little closer to ball which is freeing up my arms. Second is a new pre shot routine. Previously I'd take practice swing from behind the ball, then hold the club out in front of me to line up where I was aiming, put the club down behind the ball, take my stance and strike. Now I line up first, put the club in behind the ball and take my stance, then half a step back - practice swing, then step back in and hit it. I'd heard or read somewhere that when you take a practice swing any thoughts you had would only stay in your brain/muscle memory for up to eight seconds.

Absolutely crunched a couple of 9i's and wedges towards the end of the round :) Hopefully I can keep it up and add 10-15 yards to my averages. Only danger is if I really do improve I'll be tempted to look at getting some new irons. After a couple years of range use and now a good year plus regularly on course they are starting to look a little beat up :p I do love the feel of my wedges (TaylorMade MG3) so maybe something with a forged face?

I was out yesterday morning/lunchtime, got really quite 'muggy' and kinda felt drained by the end... But also having to get used to walking again as Friday found out buggies are path only at Woodlands so walked there and Sundays game was Shrivenham which I always walk, but been a while since I walked 2 18 holes in a week (+the 3x 9 hole rounds walking).

Anyway, Fridays game was a bit meh, stableford comp and I think I got a whopping 32 points, sub-par :p

Sunday was much better, I was +4 through 5 at the start with some really solid golf. Bogied a tricky par 5 whilst hitting my 3rd shot OB, drop+5th onto the green for a 1-putt bogey, really happy with that. The shot that went OB was a tricky-ish one, fairway slopes right to left so ball above my feet expecting it to go left but instead got a great contact that went slightly right of target and dead straight, oops :p Second attempt was nigh on perfect though. Had a few poor holes though so a 106 total but that was good enough at that course to count towards/lower my handicap slightly so that was a pleasant surprise :D

Also just booked a golf pairs event at Isle of Purbeck down by bournemouth, looks to be quite nice and got a spot next Wednesday for £35. I was undecided at £55 so when the offer came through this morning :p

Driver fitting at Scottsdale Glasgow.

Nice place - newly built - 52 bay driving range, simulators, crazy golf, food trucks etc - Bet it's a busy place at the weekend.

Golf It

Fitting was with a nice young lad Chris. Euro pro tour/Challenge pro tour player who's moved up from Warrington to Glasgow for now as he's taking some time out from competitive golf so working full time just now.

Hit my own driver (G425 LST - Ventus TR blue 6-x) - set some base lines. Struggling get the ball up in the air, almost too low spin at the moment.

Anyway - great range of clubs, huge range of shafts as well - everything from standard shafts to all the nice up charge shafts (Ventus/LA GOLF/ GRAPHITE DESIGN etc etc)

Hit TSR3 with my own shaft, but didn't improve anything. Hit Stealth 2+ with own shaft. Could not get this ball to do anything but go way right - really hard to keep on the planet.

Moved into the same heads again with LA GOLF A SERIES shaft - better as it felt lighter but struggled a bit with timing as used to a heavier shaft. (or at least that's what it felt to me)

Chris was really good fitter and even had a few swing tips for me - nothing major but trying to get me to "cast" the shaft on the down swing to give me more room. Felt great when I sync'd it up.

Anyway - last but not least - ZX5 Srizon head with my own shaft - Boom....... No idea what happened but this just sync'd up great. Felt lovely - hit much more consistently the middle of the face. Even the odd high face one's were straight and long. Only driver I could constantly get over 300 yards total.

Looked a winner for me - Anyway - final hit he asked me to really get after one - result below.... (Really pleased with path and hitting up on the ball, as this is something I've struggled with)

So bought the Srixon ZX5 head, they stripped my G425 Ping head off, changed adapter, and fitted/built ZX5 with my existing shaft in the fitting room. Nice touch you get to sit in the room and watch them build it and have a chat with the builder etc.

Excellent fitting (£20 for nearly 2 hours - never rushed us or anything) - knowledgeable, friendly and excellent service.

So £429 for the head, no charge to change shafts/adapters etc - Walked away with new club.

Will sell my G425 with original MSI shaft for around £250 probably so no major cost to get fit properly.

For reference - hit way more than 2 shots with each driver but this was just some of the better ones.

Sounds really good, guessing you didn't go in there expecting to get a Srixon driver! :p

Was trying it something you wanted or a suggestion by the fitter?

I'm no brand "snob" - I went in with an open mind. Didn't have an issue if a different shaft was better etc as I knew my Ventus was an easy sell 2nd hand if needed.

Hit Stealth/S2 a few times now - just don't like the red face at all.

Yeah - I would agree - didn't expect a Srixon driver but like I say - was a winner by a long way so easy choice.

One of the biggest takeaways today was also the mini "tip/lesson" from the lad.

The "casting" the club away at the top - give me more room, and I certainly felt more lag in my swing which massively improved my path. Really excited by that.

Something he said as well was, have two swings - one for driver off a tee, and another for your irons etc. Obviously the basic difference being you want to hit up on driver but down on your irons. I've always known this but just interesting to hear it from someone who's played challenge tour/Euro pro tour etc that he has "2 swings"

I heard this on youtube from Iona Stephen.
She had this swing tip when she was a little younger from Jon Rahm.
He suggested that the feel of casting from the top, just like you say, can help some people.
I tried it after hearing her talk about it, it helps me get launch from driver, but I tend to add loads of spin that way, so doesn't seem to work for me.

Had my first blow up round all season on Tuesday. 102 at a course I'd not played before. Could not get Driver to work at all and everything was coming out super spinny. Suspect it was because I hadn't done my usual warm ups as they had no nets and couldn't get rid of early extensions, an issue I though I'd gotten rid of months ago. Was hooking my long irons something rotten.

Only thing that saved a 110+ score was my short game. Made a few chip ins and putting average was 1.8.

Not overly frustrated. Been playing too well recently and probably had a bad round or two in the bank. Helps to ground you a little and remind you that you need to keep grinding if you want to maintain consistency, new irons or not.
