Sounds like the right attitude to have :)

I had a terrible round this morning, I would blame lack of warmup but that's 'normal' for me and actually my strikes on the first hole were some of the best of the round. It's the 'usual' golf weirdness, recently and even at a lesson on Tuesday my irons have been pretty solid but my Driver has been very slice-y and felt like I'd lost some feel for the short pitches/chips/distance, today my chipping was solid, Driver was great, can't hit an iron to save my life :p

In other news found out yesterday my contract is ending at the end of the month, shame, but more time for golf at least :D Kinda half-thinking maybe a ~5 night/3 round trip to Portugal or something early-mid November... Going to Marrakech in early December so maybe a little excessive but thinking the weather isn't gonna be amazing for UK trips/golfing really...

Had a "taster" driver fitting yesterday - along with some 3 woods, to replace my ageing driver/3 wood combo. Swing speed meant I west straight for the stiff shafts, aiming to reduce dispersion - I don't struggle with distance, so I was willing to sacrifice some of that for consistency off the tee.

Ended up settling on the Wilson Dynapower Carbon driver, 9 degree head, turned down to 8.5 degrees - biggest miss was ~20 yards from centreline with average 280yd carry. Also hit the Titleist TSR2 3 wood well - again a stiff shaft, good spin numbers and easy straight carry. Ordered the 3 wood for delivery tomorrow, just in time for my weekend round  See how I get on with that, then look for good deals on drivers in the coming months.

Nice! Had a few hits with the DP Titanium model recently and really liked it.

nice - lot of love for Wilson driver - they seem to have hit a good spot in the market - good price and good driver....

Aye, feels like it's filling the spot the Radspeed did a few years. Amazed more of the top manufacturers aren't taking advantage of that space really. Guess they're all fearing spreading themselves too thin, much as Wilson did in the early 00s.

Managed 7 holes this morning before the rain came on.

New Driver off the 1st - beautiful - and high!!! which is what I've struggled with getting the ball up in the air more. Hit driver on 4th over the trees on the dog leg corner which I've never been able to do before.

Did hit it on 5 and 6 as well - nice long high but slightly pulled them both left... But still very well hit. Sounds lovely the Srixon - all set a neutral at the moment.

First round with the Titleist TSR2 3 Wood today - it’s staying in the bag. First couple of tee shots with it were pretty average, (and I’m sure this is a placebo effect..), once I got to grips with it, I felt much more confident over the ball, much more rewarding to swing harder. Longest drive of the day was 315 yards, but more crucially, kept the ball in play - I could place it where I wanted to. Happy.

315 yards with a 3 wood....  - That's just ridiculous. Longer than 98% of the pro's hit their driver!!

I've been playing golf for a couple years with some friends, and have always been bad. Not a little bit poor, but outright awful, couldn't hit anything in the air at all. I spent my afternoon just scooting my ball AROUND. Didn't improve for years, and really only went socially, as I couldn't play to save my life.

Decided I was going to try and make more of a concerted effort, and finally stumped up for a set of lessons (never thought I'd be the person to drop the money on lessons, was always sure I'd "get it"). If anyone reads this in a similar boat to me, DO IT.

He asked me to hit a few balls to see what I did, then start with absolute fundamentals. Lessons 1 and 2? Didn't hit a ball. By the end of lesson 5, I had a swing worthy of the name, and suddenly I am able to take chunks out of a hole (distance rather than divots!) with each swing for the first time.

Am I now amazing? Of course not. But just a few lessons has absolutely changed the way I look forward to a round, and want to recommend anyone on the fence to go for it.

100% agree - I've been playing on and off for 30+ years - still get the odd lesson now and then. Like anything - if you want to improve/get better, seek some help. Nothing to be embarrassed about.

Course closed yesterday due to water logged - Rain in Scotland has been mental.

Course open today and it's the big grudge match today. My club versus our biggest rivals. 6 fourball games to decide who wins the trophy. Loosing Captain has to go to the other clubs dinner and present the trophy to them. Something you never want to have happen to yourself!

Kinda the opposite down here with 23c today! Although I still picked the wrong shoes and went with some summer shoes that aren't really waterproof... There was so much dew early on that my feet were soaked. D'oh.

Had a terrible front 9 then great back 9, 1 par and 6 bogeys on the back 9 (and one pickup, stableford society game) which is really really good for me... Hit 4 GIRs in that back 9 too.

Overall my putting/chips aren't great though right now, chips I've started thinning them a bit which then makes me a bit hesitant so the good connections I got didn't have the distance because I didn't swing fast enough.

Went out yesterday afternoon and today. Beautiful weather, basking in the sunshine :)

Played the harder course yesterday and set a new record, only losing the one ball :p

Was scoring pretty well too until a couple in front invited me to play through on the 13th. This lead to me rushing some shots over the next course of holes with the inevitable results! I wasn't really in a rush, had half an eye on getting home in time for the F1, but would happily have watched delayed. As I'd rushed a couple I thought in for a penny in for a pound. Pretty much jogged the last three holes, made it home and even had time for a quick shower. Sat down on the formation lap!

Less rushed today, only played 12 to ensure I was home in time. Hit a number of cracking 3w's, best one was hitting the green from around 200 yards. Fairways are really starting to firm out again down south.

Went for a 5 wood fitting at American golf. My mavrik 3w isn’t very confidence inspiring off the deck. I have no brand preference.

Tested:
CobraLTDx Max
Mavrik 5w so we have a like for like
Ping G425 and G430
Stealth 2 and M4

We use AD333 which is the ball I’ve been playing so it was nice to have that constant.

Came home with last years cobra. The swing weight as in feeling of where the head is at all times is a comfort and confidence thing for me and the Cobra was best at it. Played on course twice already and it’s so damn pleasant to use on the fairway and first cut. It’s got these little metal glides on the bottom that really help slide through the turf.

I turned it down to 17 degrees so it’s basically a 4w. So pleased!

Squeezed in 18 holes with @Maccy last night. Had to grab a buggy to beat the light, which we did - just. A few blow up holes for me, suddenly forgot how to hit my irons on the 12th - carded consecutive 8s on par 4s, finally got some control back on the 15th but the damage was done - carded a 96 :o

Weather is definitely coming in now though, was getting dark as we headed down the 18th at 6:15pm
