OK, got new irons last week. Wilson FG Tour Forged with Nippon NS Pro 950 shafts. Still got the MP67's as a backup, may sell them if the FG's play well enough...

oh Thomas :(

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/world-of-sport/article/58001/

i was gutted for him reading that story :/
i live a few miles down the road from Wentworth and in 2003 (might have been 2002) i went to watch the volvo PGA there, we were advised by a friend to park outside on the main road and walk in which we did.. as we walked in a steady stream of cars were passing us and 1 guy opened his window and said hey you guys.. you like a lift to the clubhouse?? it was Thomas Levet.. YES PLEASE we said :) he dropped me and me mate off 'behind the lines' in between the clubhouse and the first tee, as we got out and wished him well i turned round and was stood right next to Mark james who nodded to me and said hello.. then i saw Monty and Garcia about 10 feet away... all that made our day before we'd even seen any golf.

unlucky Thommo :(

^Oh dear! Sort of lol though :o.

Anyone else find it much harder hitting off fairway grass on a round, than off a mat at the range? Is that to be expected since the mat provides a perfect lie, or should the fairway be easier as it's more 'forgiving'?

I bought some new Footjoy Contours yesterday (the ones without laces) - not a massive fan of "gadgets" on footwear, but 'Jes these are comfortable - like the most comfortable golf shoes I've ever worn. Bit more pricey than £50 (they were £70), but wow!

Thanks for that, I ended up with some Nike Vintage Saddle golf shoes from Sports Direct: http://www.sportsdirect.com/nike-vintage-saddle-golf-shoe-mens-288015. I tried a couple of Footjoys but at my budget, they felt a lot stiffer to me than the Nikes, and the Nikes fit like a glove for my foot so it had to be them. £40.

For those of you guys talking of gps systems on the last page, i bought one of these - http://www.direct-golf.co.uk/golf_a...roogle&utm_content=11984&utm_campaign=froogle which is fully compliant with R&A rules and also a great gadget, better than traditional gps units imo as it's so easy to use, it's there on your wrist, so much more accessible.
I used it at the Rolls of Monmouth on monday and it lasted until the halfway down the 18th fairway on the second round of the day.

Would be great to get some kind OcUK society going, not sure how feasible that would be ?
Also, interested in the range of abilities on here, what are people's handicaps ? Mine is 15.

Still looking at buying new irons. Not sure what I want to be getting. Titleist AP2 710's were my number one choice, but the new Ping's look very nice, although im not sure whether to go for the G20's or i20's So hard to decide, I suppose I will wait and give both of the new Ping's a try when they come out.

And in other news, I bought myself a Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2.5.....oh my :D

And off to Westerwood golf resort tomorrow for 2 rounds, can't wait!

Been thinking about taking up golf for a while now, spotted this Dunlop starter set in Sports Direct for the bargain price of £69.

Now I appreciate that this is proper bottom end stuff, but is it too cheap & nasty to start off with?

I'd honestly recommend a 2nd hand set over something from Sports Direct. I got my 2nd hand set of Ping I3s for under £100. A lot of pros shops, or driving ranges like American Golf, sell 2nd hand clubs too, and will often provide advice given your budget and let you try them out etc.

I actually have a driver from Sports Direct, my Dad bought it to see if it was any good.. it wasn't :-) It looks like a modern big headed driver, and has things like Titanium written on it, but the ball doesn't go anywhere when you hit it :p

Just had a really good lesson with video analysis at the local range.

Main things I learnt / had forgotten:

- Reduce pace and length of backswing, especially with irons. Bottom of club should be level with top of shoulder at top of backswing.
- Keep hand inside left thigh (mine was pushing forward).

Ended up hitting it much better with only these tips.

So whats the consensus on wearing white trousers to play golf? :D

Gotta have the game to go with 'em ;) I definitely didn't have the game earlier today :(

I Played a quick 9 holes after the Grand Prix qualifying and started off fairly well. I was 1 over through 6, get to the 7th and got held up by a slow 4 ball who seemed to have appeared from nowhere?
Anyway after waiting for what seemed like an eternity while they looked for their balls they eventually waved my friend and I through.

So I tee it up and hit an absolute beauty of a drive 70-80 yards past where the 4 ball group of "hackers" were searching for balls.
Feeling rather proud of myself I walked nonchalantly up to my ball, took a couple of practice swings with my sand wedge and then proceeded to shank the next 3 shots!!!!
It went something like this - water, heavy rough, water again then pick ball up and walk off hole in fit of rage

Next hole number 8, shortish par 3, hit a full 8 iron and another bloody hosel rocket straight into the water hazard!! FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU!1 :mad:

Eventually sorted it out on the next shot but my god I hate the shanks when they rear their ugly heads :(

Had much the same experience Coupe69, played yesterday, birdied the first by sticking my 6i to 2 inch! Par's for the next few holes, then give the shot back on the par 3 7th. Get to the 8th which is si1 on the card, smash a drive way past the rest of my partners which leaves me a sand wedge to the green (pretty unheard of, the rest of the lads all hit anything from 3 wood to 6i), get it up to the flag but too much spin (something I never do!) and it pulls back off the green into the "bunker". Now the bunkers at this place make playing off concrete a nice prospect, end up with a double bogey. Walk through the trees to the 9th and there are 5 groups of 4 balls waiting to tee off, no one had told us it was captains day, but this was taking the ****, we had a break of 1 hour between the last group of the captains day before we tee'd off and then we get stuck behind this!!!! Took 3.5hrs to finish the course from the 9th!!! Needless to say my game went way south with all the standing around.

Broke my driver i15 driver yesterday, the shaft had come out of the hozel and club head, was really worried for a while. Took it to my pro who said the glue had simply dried up and my powerful swing had forced it to come apart. Apparently he is fixing it right now, thank goodness.

And on another note, ordered a set of Vokey Oil Can wedges, 52, 54 and 60, can't wait to get out on the course with them. :D

Stableford rules

Guys...am I right in thinking if I was a 26 handicap golfer playing under normal Stableford rules, I'd score 4 points for a par on holes with stroke indexes of 1-8, and 3 points for a par on holes with stroke indexes of 9-18?

Cheers.

Here's a vid of my golf swing :o. Do your worst.

Looks a bit loose somehow. From behind it's uglier; very steep backswing and the back moves a bit too much.

Meant to be playing in Suffolk on Saturday, tee-off time midday...here is the weather forecast:

Great :(.
