Oh yeah, a mate plays the Duo Soft and their good, easily as good as the AD333. I played them a few times with the alignment version (got a dozen with a Wilson putter) and yeah, solid choice especially so with the deal :)
Yep I tend to play mainly Wilson/Staff balls at the moment, great value and equally as good as AD333s.

Range session a couple nights ago wasn't great but I felt like I had tweaked something in my side, so not putting much importance on it

Got a tee time booked for Saturday morning and then got a lesson in the afternoon to see how the changes are looking with driver

My son got a golf net and a Garmin r10 launch monitor so I could finally get some numbers as I've never known my swing speed. I was surprised to see my 7 iron swing speed down at 80mph yet my driver is 105mph. Does that sound right?

I do tend to find my irons just don't go that far to be fair. Bit of a wake up call possibly. I drive about 250 carry and my 7 iron can range from 135 to 155. Loft on the 7 is I think 33 degrees.

Edit: reason I care is I'm trying to get some new second hand clubs as I'm 25 handicap so don't want to drop 2k on new ones, and wanted to know the best shaft flex. Since I swapped my driver to a stuff flex I get less slices and seems to be more accurate and consistent. Distance about the same. Irons I prefer the feel of my son's with stiffer shaft but maybe that's sacrificing distance.

Small bit of time at the range today as the course has been shut all week.
Played bethpage course, with handicap was going around it even par.
Little frustrated with my driving, just can't seem to get distance on it, put doubts that its the right driver for me. Hitting my 5 wood of the deck not much less than my driver. My driver is the TM Qi35 Max Lite version, just wondering it its to light. Lesson next Friday so will bring it up then.

Course was shut today so went to the range instead before my lesson

Why is it that small changes can feel the hardest to get...? Made a slight change to my right hand position in my grip and a change to my takeaway to get the club face more square and take out the now left miss, but it feels so weird

I need to work and trust it as my old miss was a slice, so spent too long trying to close the face through impact with grip and release, which has brought in the left miss that I now need to dial it all back to more neutral and my brain was just saying slice when I first started today with the change

Course is still shut :( been a week now. What a faff! Grabbed a Callaway Epic Max 3 Wood brand new in wrapper, should be here in a few days. Love the look of Callaway Epic Speed/Max/Flash

Attended the Ginger Golf day yesterday - a guy called Josh who been travelling the UK trying to break the world record for the most golf courses played in a year - yesterday being the world record breaking round - 581!

Pairs scramble competition, myself my partner shot -1 gross, -7 net - with some clumsy bogeys - could have been on for a really decent score otherwise! Mental prizes, the gross winners got a set of Vokey SM10s, with the nett winners getting a Stewart Golf Trolley each .

And of course watching Josh drop the final putt, finishing out his 581st round since January 24th - amazing feat of golf and logistics.

Sounds fine to me regards swing speed etc....

Obviously driver is faster clubhead speed as it's longer shafted than a 7 iron so you can generate much more speed.

Nothing wrong with your yardages.... Don't take any notice of people saying they hit driver 280-300 etc - 95% of amateurs get nowhere near that distance - and most will massively over estimate how far they hit it.

If your doing to get new clubs - 100% go get fitted properly for them. Shafts are probably the most important part of the fitting. Also one companies "stiff" flex will be like another companies regular flex. One companies 7 iron will be 33degrees, another will be 37 degrees so take no notice of the number on the club - just get a good idea of how far you hit each club on average and go from there

I think the wife has been kidnapped and replaced with an alien..... So already got my lads Portugal trip booked for 7 days in May 2026 to Vilamoura (Pinhal, San Lorenzo, QDL South/Laranjal/North). Just had another trip approved to Portugal (Pestana Gramacho, Vale Da Pinta if people know it) in March for 4 nights! :D :D

she's a keeper

course re-opened today so thats good. I'll be first out in the morning!
Today i had a lesson followed by some time at the driving range, managed to figure out the loft on my shots, managed to get my 7 iron in the 70ft height which is a lot better than it was. As its a bit of a swing change there's some thinned shots, some from the heel but when i hit it well i was really happy with it. On top trace my 5 wood carries 164, 3 wood 182 and driver 194 yards. 7 iron is at 130 yar carry which i think i'm happy with.
Next lesson booked in the 9th of Jan :)

Played 9 yesterday morning before we headed to Forest Pines for our work Christmas party - no golf there though

Despite not feeling my swing, I still shot +2 for the 9 holes, so not bad overall

Hopefully playing again on Tuesday as got a couple days off and the ladies have their Christmas lunch at the club tomorrow so I have a tee booked with my usual playing partner

Finally carded my first good round of the year this morning, only took eleven and a half months :p 86 gross (+14) to net me 40pts playing off eighteen. Looks like I've got the winning score by 1pt which with a field of 31 players should get me a decent pay out onto my card.

Round started well when I made an 18ft putt up the hill at the first for par, a welcome bonus when I'd played to make bogey. A sign of things to come as I putted well all round. Second was a solid bogey, plays a very long par 4 in the soft conditions we have at the moment. Third a bit of a careless double, think I got caught out by the wind not being as strong as I thought and thinking the back number my watch was giving me was to the flag :o My only big blunder came at the fourth. Topped my iron 10 yards into the rough in front of the tee and couldn't find it. Managed to make a three with my second ball thanks to a nice up and down to salvage a point (5 for 1)! Rest of the front nine was solid, went out in +9 gross.

Back nine was just a case of avoiding doing anything stupid, although I nearly managed this on twelve but thankfully just avoided going into the water for the second day running. Sixteen was the only one I'd like back, was on the green in regulation but got very racy with my first putt and carded my only three putt of the round. Thirty-three putts total.

Handicap will be heading in the right direction tomorrow, should be down to 17.2 which means I'll lose a shot from the whites. Got a few more chances to get cards in before the end of the year, monthly stableford next Saturday and Boxing day trophy. Hopefully I can keep the good scores coming :)

Edit: A surprise PCC adjustment for the round has resulted in my index dropping to 17.0 this morning, the lowest its been all year.

Well I played 9 holes on Saturday and got 43 which I'm happy with considering I lost a ball. Went out on Sunday with my eldest but we stopped at the 4th because he was too cold and wet.. I mean I told him to wrap up with waterproofs but those with older kids will know they can't be told

And just like that our course is now shut again. Got t time for Thursday, Friday and Saturday so hopefully they open it back up. If not I'll look to pay for a round at one of the other local spots

Course was closed yesterday due to the amount of rain we have had, so just hit the range instead

Got a tee booked for Saturday morning but not holding my breath looking at the forecast for the next couple of days

Think I may have already played my last round on the course this year if the weather stays like this

Played a bit recently starting with some bad rounds at my local (49 over 9 holes, same score for both Friday and Saturday) but then it picked up at other courses.

Went to Bristol on Sunday and managed 85, could've been much better given I had 6 3-putts and a run of 4 holes where I had 2 doubles and a triple bogey/pickup, but hey, I'll take 85 anyday.

Then today I played Weston Super Mare with the networking group and shot I think 89 for 35 points. Not looked at the stats yet but just felt like I was getting hassle free bogeys with the occasional par for the most part, did have 2 doubles and a blow up but otherwise it was all good really.

Driver was interesting today though, started off the recent 'power fade' but then had a big pull on the 4th where I got the face closed, settled down a bit but then the big pull came back, which really just doesn't work when you're aiming left for the fade :p put it back into the bag after it caused the blow up hole (big pull left then sliced right with the provisional, first was lost) so yeah... Needs work :p

Don’t think I’ve played since late September, weather hasn’t been the best in the Manchester area. Probably won’t play again until March, unfortunately.
