Golf Thread

Took my youngest to his lesson today and after it spent some time on the pitching area... I really dislike golf sometimes just shanking the **** again. Maybe a handful of shanks then a good shot then a load more shanks. No idea why over the last few weeks I've got them but can't seem to get rid. Really frustrated as I never used to have problems with striking the ball and now it's like I can hit a ball better with a one arm swing

Played yesterday in the first round at Close House in a 4BBB event

Warmed up on the range and was striping the ball, but couldn't take that to the course and struggled all round with the rights off the tee

Hoping for better today in round 2 on the Colt course but we are only 2 points off the lead

There were 2 pairs with 42 points and then another 2 pairs (including us) on 40

quick fix - stand a little further away from the ball - If you hit it better with one arm is probably because your swinging with a little more width.

Not always that simply but usually a decent quick fix.

Went out today, first week our course has allowed play off the fairways and I shot worse than i've been shooting placing the ball in the semi rough the last 4 months  came in with a 79(+8) had a treble on the card and two doubles though, a terribly played par 4 off the tee straight into the woods.

17th done me as well, par3 straight into the bunker, plugged against the wall. 2 shots to get out and 2 putts.

Funny game golf, you think you have it figured out for months, not carding doubles etc and then it just kicks you in the nuts. Such a hard game.

Anyway out on a society day tomorrow at Hexham golf course, should be a good day, bacon butty pre round, soup and sarnies after. Hopefully the weather holds!

Had excellent weather these last couple days at Close House, just a shame my golf wasn't better

Greens today on the Colt were spot on and my tee game showed up for most of the round which was pleasing, I just found the water on 8, 9 and topped my tee shot into the water on 15 when trying to hit a draw with my 3w

Unfortunately when we had a bad hole, we both had them at the same time and we limped home with 35 points today, with the overall winners scoring 43 points today to add to their 42 yesterday

We finished 5th overall with 75 points so not a complete disaster and it has given me a bit of confidence after my recent slipped disc episode

Played a few rounds recently, I am still shooting around 100. Just really struggling off the tee, I just started using 7w every hole but then im leaving myself a good few yards short which means im a .5 shot behind every hole which can be a killer.

I have more lessons booked in, hope I can find something that works with my driver or mini driver!

Bought a Callaway Apex UW recently as they have been raved about for years, will try it out on the range soon and see if it should go in the bag!

I had this ridiculous hole last time out.

7w off the tee into some trees, took a drop as I couldn't find it and nailed it.

Was a 4 ball ahead of me on the green and I took my shot because I just thought theres no way its getting up there and it just flew like a rocket, thankfully they were ok about it but I did feel bad about hitting into them, I just wanted to hit 200ish and lay up for a wedge onto the green!

Tommy is getting pretty good at the YouTube stuff :p I liked trying to do the Rory impressions...

What we need though is a Taco vs Tommy, with each impersonating each other

I haven't watched the Rory / Tommy video yet but will do when I get time

Surprised I don't ache more than I do after the last couple days of golf - got me looking forward to the weekend for the next round

Went out yesterday and went back to what to me feels a natural stance (prior to lessons) which is a little further away from the ball and wider feet. I also put an old headcover really close to the ball and aimed not to hit it, shanks seemed to have changed to a high drawing shot again.
Coach said in a lesson my stance is like i'm hitting a driver when i'm hitting my irons and i'm to far away. I do have balance issues that i can't really fix (deaf in one ear) so always preferred the more stable stance. Will see how i get on when i'm next out which i think is tomorrow if this weather stays away

LIV golf apparently is about to collapse. Does anyone actually watch that cack? Good riddance to that.

Don't watch it - no interest at all. Most of the players, outside of Rahm/Bryson, are washed up pro's making a few quid before retiring etc.

Lots of rumours around yesterday like you say but according to CEO email last night - it's business as usual...

No smoke without fire however.....

Never watched it but the money involved is insane and they only got £2m tv deal

More inclined to agree with Watson. They players who went there shouldn’t get a free roll to come back to the pga/DT

I tried to watch it once not long after its inception and it was rough. Bar the odd big name it was just full of has-beens and players that you'd never heard off who were probably only there to make up the numbers, and fair play to them because they'll have made a hell of a lot more doing LIV than any other tour.

The only players I really miss from the PGA/DP stuff are Bryson, Rahm, and Hatton. The rest are very meh in my mind.

Jealous of people who get a course that's playable...

Our is a bog still.... Almost unplayable today again - 5th and 14th green were underwater again. Fairways are soaking... no run/roll at all.

Played 14 holes and called it a day - raining again on and off all the time.

Literally down to 5 months a year now for golf weather/playable courses...

Was a stableford but wasn't scoring much anyway..

Course was extremely wet and soft again today, greens were fine though as were the bunkers, just a fair bit of casual water on the fairways but playable. Tough one today, wet weather and breezy so had zero expectations. Carded a 79 / 37pts off the whites, so delighted with that, especially given only 7 GIR

Guy I was playing with shot 77 for 38pts though

Weather looks decent here for the next week so hopefully the course will dry out for next weekend

Wow, down south we've been pretty dry for a while now and it's showing on the course, really getting some run/bounce again! Sounds completely different

Out yesterday for the first match in the summer knockouts, do love me some 1v1 matchplay :D Got 3 shots and ended up winning 4&3 so happy days. I was two down at the turn though, thankfully 2 of my shots were on holes 10 and 11 (stroke index 1 and 3) but actually went a bit further and went on a 5 hole winning streak with some solid golf, the 15th was a bit odd though, basically the other guy gave up! His trolley battery ran out and when I cleared the ditch and he went in the ditch he conceeded on the tee box, not gonna complain I guess...

First comp in a good number of years, got 23 pts which i'm happy with as i had 13 on the front 9 followed by 4 no scores in a row. Driving was good apart from 1, putting was good but irons were just a bit hit and miss. Seem to be waiting an age for the new irons to turn up, been 2 weeks and i think they said 2-3 weeks lead time so hopefully by the next one i'kk gave them

Handicap up to 27, christ haha i'll get it down below 20 this year. Just lost shots on the irons, had somewhere i thinned one shot and then next hit it really well and it was like that all round.

Finally put a half decent round together today

77 with a few 3 putts in there (greens were slower than the Colt was on Tuesday so that is my excuse haha)

Finally drove the ball well and hit some good approaches on a few holes to give me chances

Played a Pro V on the front nine and shot +4, then swapped to the new Chrome Tour X for the back nine and shot +1

The previous Chrome Tour X was a decent ball but this just seems faster off all clubs and spins well with partial wedge shots. Clipped a 75yd wedge into the 13th that took one hop and sat next to the hole for a tap-in birdie
