Golf Thread

Poor round at the weekend - had nothing. Hit the ball fairly poor all round - greens are dreadful and impossible to trust a putt will stay online etc.

Aside from that - Scottie on the absolutely tear at the moment - 3 wins in last 4 rounds. Mental stuff.... Just relentless stuff

Had some family around so didn't play as much as normal over the weekend but work was quiet so managed to get out around St. Pierre on Friday and then Woodlands in Bristol yesterday.

Friday was ok, shot 93 which is my best around there by 5 shots, definitely more left out there but compared to the courses I play more frequently it's a fair bit longer, or feels it at least :p

Yesterday was interesting, the wind was mental but also the course, the greens seemed a step faster than 'normal' and some of the pin positions were evil. Worst was on the 12th where I saw a chip trickle just high of the hole only to then roll 10+ feet down the hill off the green and a further ~5 yards down a slope before stopping. Kinda ridiculous tbh. Shot a 96 there which is meh around that course really.

I did however tick off a thing, before yesterday my longest drive was 296 yards total, thanks to some very firm fairways and strong winds I got two drives over 300, Garmin says both were the same actually at 323 yards which was nice! First of those was on a short par 5 that's only really a par 5 because there's a lake in front of the green, not that long ago it was a definite lay up hole (as in drive then lay up short of the lake before hitting on), then I gained a bit of distance and could start thinking about going for it in 2. With the crazy wind/roll-out affected drive I was almost in the water! Had 77 yards left to the front of the green. Made par with a 3 putt obviously... :( :p

7 years ago to the day that I started this thread! I got down to a 10.4 hcap a few years ago. I haven't swung a golf club for nearly 3 years due to work/life/busy family. :(

And sadly not even in the top twenty posters in this thread, unlike the two gentleman above you :p

Thanks for starting it BTW :)

Ha i know I know! Haven't posted in here for a looooooooooong time!
Maybe one day i'll dust off the old clubs and see where i'm at!

Slayley Hall Fri/Saturday this weekend coming.

15 of us... Should be good fun for 2 rounds, dinner bed/breakfast. Great value for £180. Taken buggies mind you so that's another £25 a day each but walked it last year and it's a loooong walk....

Weather looks ok Friday, poor saturday.

Yep, it can be a long slog when the weather is poor.

Saw a good video this morning by the bunkered guys at Dumbarnie Links, I think I'm going to try and get a round up there sometime, I know a few guys who have played it and I haven't heard a single negative.

Just booked Conway, Aberdyfi and Royal St Davids for September, and also got a surprise birthday present from the wife of 2 x day tickets for Ganton! :D

We're going to getting a game there in the next month or so. Another cracking course half an hour down the road, 20 after my girlfriend and I move next week!

Absolute shocker today inside 80yds, 83 for +3 nett and 41 putts lol

8x 3 putts incl 3 misses inside 2ft....

At home I've got a puttout mat and I could hole 100 in a row easily from 6ft

Seriously think I'm going to have to see someone and completely rebuild my putting stroke

Or, zero torque or Scotty Cameron :)

You know the answer here - Scotty Cameron - none of this new fangled nonsense...

Finally got myself a trolley! I am playing at Close House next week and hoping I wont be so tired post round after not lugging my clubs on my back.

Golf lesson tonight, my game seems to have collapsed over winter, booked for 1 hour so I can hopefully get a review of what I'm doing and a couple of simple changes to get me back to where I was at the end of the season last year. Easily 10+ shots a round worse off than I was last year. I'm literally standing on the tee and have no idea where the shot will end up. Confidence is gone.

I've actually got one that I got used for a steal a while ago, super select Newport 2+

34" though so I just chucked it in the wardrobe thinking eventually one day I'd extend the shaft and regrip it

Sometimes the most simple and minor tweaks can make the world of difference, hope it all goes well and you get your mojo back

Wednesday Night league win last night, 9 hole stableford comp. Was +1 through 6 holes, then hit a horrendous shank on the last par 3, ended up in for 5 after taking 3 off the tee, so reasonably happy with my short game/putting. Bogey-bogey finish left me 5 over for 20 points :)

Game is certainly getting there, my greenside chipping has really come on recently. Overall happy!

Picked up my new driver at lunch time :)

Titleist GT3 9 degree head playing 9.75 | Hosel @ C3 | Weight @ H2
Mitsubishi Chemical C6 Red 40 (45" shaft length)
Golf Pride Tour Velvet (2 layers of tape)

Unfortunately weather forecast down here for Saturday (monthly medal) doesn't looks great to put it mildly. Thankfully got a comp on Sunday which looks more promising weather wise so hopefully get a good feel for it out on course then. Will christen it on the range tomorrow, maybe hit a few off the 1st tee as well while I'm down at the putting green :D Might have to switch tees as not sure I want pink marks all over the face, although maybe preferable (less visible) to having white marks everywhere :p
