The issue with Rick's videos, at least the last ones I watched, is he just hits balls, and he's a decent or more specifically consistent ball striker so they do kinda just do the same thing no matter what head it is, and even age to an extent. The 'COR' basically determines distance and that's been capped since forever ago, where modern drivers have improved is in consist

I know right, those bloody head covers. I've got a Wilson Blade (Windy City so the bladiest of blades) and the Buckingham mallet, both head covers fall off constant and it's so infuriating, I'm shocked I haven't lost one yet but I have at times had to run back up the fairway to pick it up.

But they are good putters though, especially for the price, I pretty much exclusively use the Buckingham these days as although I love the blade and on a good day it's amazing on the off days which is 364 days of the year the mallet is just more forgiving.
Haven't they maxed out MOI now which is meant to be the forgiveness though? So a 10k driver from any brand in theory should be the same forgiveness.

I have the michigan ave one which is a bit bigger than the windy city one. I have lost it a couple of times with it being returned to the lost and found, i've also done the run back a few holes to get it. Now the headcover just stays at home. When i last went to golf clubs for cash and looking at putters one of the things i was liking was the putters with a magnetic headcover.

Kinda but most of the '10k' type heads also came with really high spin and hence a distance reduction, it seems like the more recent generation has worked a bit towards hitting that same MOI level but lowering the spin to get the distance back. But that's another thing, MOI is one thing but spin variance across the face whilst some is desired for 'gear effect' it can still be improved.

I did try a magnetic headcover on the Buckingham but it doesn't really seem to work on it, the magnet gets stuck to the putter head itself, d'oh. But yeah, I had (/have, nephew has stolen it) a TaylorMade Spider GT Rollback with a magnetic headcover, all hail magnets. :D

Finally got out to play yesterday with only the 1 temp green, but it was still very soft underfoot

Lost a couple balls but had a couple birdies as well
Swing is starting to get there after the winter range work, just need to take it to the course, but the confidence is starting to show

I've made my decision.. It was easy in the end, paying £529 for a driver is insane. I can't do it. I don't care if it shaves 4 or 5 shots off. It's insane.

I've had two fittings and honestly it wasn't anything to do with the actual driver for me. the key is getting the correct shaft.

Had our 50 minute session on a Trackman today, played St Andrews, The Old Course. Only managed to complete 6 holes because I got stuck in a bunker on the seventh. It was good having the visuals you wouldn’t have on a range session, but not understanding the tech side and not being able to visualise the lay of the course spoiled it somewhat. Everything was explained before we started but there was too much to take in tbh. We will go again and I know it will become clearer on how to use the Trackman, but I can’t wait for the weather to improve so we can get out on the grass..
