The issue with Rick's videos, at least the last ones I watched, is he just hits balls, and he's a decent or more specifically consistent ball striker so they do kinda just do the same thing no matter what head it is, and even age to an extent. The 'COR' basically determines distance and that's been capped since forever ago, where modern drivers have improved is in consist

I know right, those bloody head covers. I've got a Wilson Blade (Windy City so the bladiest of blades) and the Buckingham mallet, both head covers fall off constant and it's so infuriating, I'm shocked I haven't lost one yet but I have at times had to run back up the fairway to pick it up.

But they are good putters though, especially for the price, I pretty much exclusively use the Buckingham these days as although I love the blade and on a good day it's amazing on the off days which is 364 days of the year the mallet is just more forgiving.
Haven't they maxed out MOI now which is meant to be the forgiveness though? So a 10k driver from any brand in theory should be the same forgiveness.

I have the michigan ave one which is a bit bigger than the windy city one. I have lost it a couple of times with it being returned to the lost and found, i've also done the run back a few holes to get it. Now the headcover just stays at home. When i last went to golf clubs for cash and looking at putters one of the things i was liking was the putters with a magnetic headcover.

Kinda but most of the '10k' type heads also came with really high spin and hence a distance reduction, it seems like the more recent generation has worked a bit towards hitting that same MOI level but lowering the spin to get the distance back. But that's another thing, MOI is one thing but spin variance across the face whilst some is desired for 'gear effect' it can still be improved.

I did try a magnetic headcover on the Buckingham but it doesn't really seem to work on it, the magnet gets stuck to the putter head itself, d'oh. But yeah, I had (/have, nephew has stolen it) a TaylorMade Spider GT Rollback with a magnetic headcover, all hail magnets. :D

Finally got out to play yesterday with only the 1 temp green, but it was still very soft underfoot

Lost a couple balls but had a couple birdies as well
Swing is starting to get there after the winter range work, just need to take it to the course, but the confidence is starting to show

I've made my decision.. It was easy in the end, paying £529 for a driver is insane. I can't do it. I don't care if it shaves 4 or 5 shots off. It's insane.

I've had two fittings and honestly it wasn't anything to do with the actual driver for me. the key is getting the correct shaft.

Had our 50 minute session on a Trackman today, played St Andrews, The Old Course. Only managed to complete 6 holes because I got stuck in a bunker on the seventh. It was good having the visuals you wouldn’t have on a range session, but not understanding the tech side and not being able to visualise the lay of the course spoiled it somewhat. Everything was explained before we started but there was too much to take in tbh. We will go again and I know it will become clearer on how to use the Trackman, but I can’t wait for the weather to improve so we can get out on the grass..

Excitement is building.... Potential for golf tomorrow - After nearly 4 weeks of terrible weather, looks like it could be dry tomorrow!!

Technically season starts tomorrow for us but I still don't think it will be a counter as the winter tee's havent been moved back to normal position yet, so course is classed as "unmeasured"

In other news, AGM last week, I'm back on the committee again.... Was on committee 12-15 years ago and past captain of the club so do another turn....

Fee's for our season ticket are up 10%.... Local authority decided against the recommended 5% increase from their own Chief Financial Officer, and fired it up at 3x inflation! Charming. Still good value overall but surplus money doesn't get spent on course, it disappears into the councils budget plans elsewhere....

Other news - NEW Titleist driver coming May 2026.... So current GT line likely to get a reduction soon if people still looking.

Bag pretty set for season. Will post up later.

Out for golf again today, after 2 weeks off this has been/will be a busy old week... Played Sunday in Bristol, Monday was Chobham, Wednesday was Weston Super Mare and then today at Cumberwell. Tomorrow/Sunday are Bristol again. Cumberwell had been closed for like 4 weeks and I can see why, very boggy in places still, did get some rain overnight but that was after 2 dry days (2 whole days!!!) but yeah.

Weston and Chobham was pretty dry though so that was nice.

Overall been playing decently, some better ball striking and my driver especially is feeling really good.

I saw that, bit 'early' for them isn't it? I love my GT3 and no need at all to change but I bet I'm gonna be tempted :p

I got my Titleist fitting through 'Team Titleist' and they released their UK events a bit ago, one that's a ballot is at Woburn on 8th April, I'm wondering now if that might include a sneak peek at the new drivers...

Still another 4 weeks til our official opening medal, through the winter it's stablefords and winter leagues and they do a 14 hole layout (with full greens as often as possible). I think the first 18 hole stableford is on the 21st.

Heading out for a few holes tomorrow, looking forward to it. Have hardly played at all this winter due to work commitments and rubbish weather.

Got a £100 SGGT voucher so currently swithering about lubing up and going for a full phat driver fitting or I might instead look at a new 4 hybrid

SGGT was good fitting experience but buy elsewhere... They charge a fortune extra for some reason with standard stuff... weird.

Also watch them with drivers - upselling expensive shafts and "pureing" the shaft etc....

95% of amateurs will fit into one of the stock shafts from the big brands....

GT2 is good for me - doubt I'll switch out of that... Happy with it last season....

but......:p:p

Yeah been there got the t shirt from a fitting at Scottsdale walking out with a Oban devotion shaft on a 3 wood and then punting it on eBay a few months later!

Will see anyway, it's dependent on if a contract renewal comes up after Easter, if I'm going to be out of work for a while I'll probably just go along for the experience or maybe look at shaft only for my qi10 core

Meant to say, if you're up for a round at Glenbervie this year late spring / summer give me a holler (sure I saw a post a few weeks/months back saying you were going to try and play a few different courses this year)

The setback train continues...

Torn ligament in my back has *almost* healed fully so my back has now decided to develop a pars defect - small stress fractures in some of my lumbar vertebrae.

Now at the stage where I need to start looking for a dodgy vet to give me the bullet...

Sure thing - been a long time since the photo hike way back in the day!!

Played Glenbervie some 20 years ago I think but will touch base for sure....

Sorry to hear that, wish you a speedy recovery

14 holes, full greens, very wet underfoot but not a bad morning for it. 8 GIR, 9 pars, 4 bogeys and 1 pickup - can't complain with that!

Driver, of course, performed incredibly since I started thinking about a future fitting :)

Gross 72 for me today (+4)

bogied 2/3/4 all with short putts missed... .Then -2 for next 11 holes.... Then bogied last 3 holes.

Course still on forward tee/winter tees - but nice to get out for a hit and trying to work on my pre-shot routine as much as possible at the moment.

Lovely weather today :) Ground was still very soft but noticeably dryer than last weekend so that was nice to see. Played well, felt I wasn't striking the ball quite as well as yesterday but not bad, chipping and putting was going well so it all worked out :p

81 gross, best on that course is 79 so not bad at all. 6 pars, bunch of bogeys, a double, a triple that was annoying and 2 birdies \o/

The triple was a short par 4 where you have to lay up, it was into wind so took my 2 iron as you do but just struck it far too well  196 yards past the end of the fairway and down the hill towards the ditch, poor lie and a poor shot led me to only just clear the ditch giving me a terrible stance for the next, poor club choice there left me on the edge of a bunker and yet another poor stance. Just mistake after mistake. No more than 5 iron for me on that hole going forward :p

Chipped in on the 9th for the first birdie (admittedly after missing the green on a par 3) and then the 18th with a great drive and solid chip to ~3 foot.

Playing the same course tomorrow, but it looks like it'll be drizzling at least throughout :(

Out this morning, a little wet on the ground but generally fine. My lad was moaning that his old nike driver is why he cannot out drive me so we swapped and honestly i can hit the nike driver just as well. Got some use of my woods today which i'm leaking to the right but i'm not 100% sure why but overall really improved recently.
Set of with a birdie which i've done the last couple of times out, found a pro v1 which i quite like, not sure its any better than the Legato balls i got from amazon though.
Playing carus green next week which i've not played for quite some time so looking forward to that.

Couple temp greens this morning but a gross 76(+4) wasn't too bad overall

3 birdies and one lost ball that we are convinced someone else played as it was straight down the middle of our fairway, but we saw someone play from where we expected it to be and then couldn't find my ball. Only other explanation was if it completely plugged in the fairway but none of the 4 of us found it

Playing again tomorrow with my usual doubles partner but just another casual knock

Had another Hour at the Driving Range this afternoon with my little boy, Been doing half an Hour practicing our swings then Half an hour playing closest to pin... I managed to get within 7ft of the pin, he managed 19ft which was very good for him
