Played a round on Thursday, worst score for an age on a day we were doing handicap cards. hcp up from 23.6 > 26.6 Aiming for mid teens by end of summer. I have gone around in low 90s/high 80s so its in me. Got 4 pars and jut had a handful of nightmare holes.
Went down the range yesterday, about 50 balls shanked / thinned and my driving was dire, then started hitting well again so i guess i've got it out of my system. Got my longest recorded drive to which was a little over 250, only did that once though:)
Bought 3 TM TP5X balls on sale for £9 and a pack of TM speedsoft ink balls ready for the next round.

Course is absolutely bogging still - played 12 holes and called it a day in the rain and wind as well as a soaking wet course.... Way thing are going, needs 7-10 days of dry weather or it's going to really struggle for a few months.

Hitting the ball good and keen to get season off and running but course isn't playing ball.

If I was fit I would have played again today, but my sensible head won and I turned down the chance to play with a couple of the guys today - probably not a bad thing as the weather here hasn't been great

Hoping to play 9 on Monday, then another physio session later in the week before a 2 day pairs event at Close House next week

Got my car through it's MOT this morning and then headed pretty much straight out to the course :p

Played terribly today. First time playing my local in a while it feels like (been spending a bunch of time on the car, and the weather before that) and compared to the course in Bristol it's so much harder, add in being an 18 hole medal and some healthy breeze it was tough out there. Good fun though, felt I putted really well although the stats don't show it but lots of <1 foot tap ins so can't complain, also my partial wedges were solid as well. Full swings not so much, bit all over the shop, 2 lost balls, and ended with a 10! A 10! Hate to see it

Might go back out again tomorrow, hernia seems absolutely fine but actually my back is feeling it more, carrying two days in a row is a lot but in Bristol tomorrow and the buggies are allowed back on the fairways so might go full lazy mode :p

Got my first handicap come in at 24 but I feel that flatters me.
I simply can not hit irons anymore with any consistency. At least when I had an awful swing it was consistently awful so I could still have some fun. Now I've got no swing at all. Anything can happen every shot.

Might be time for some lessons again I think, but I'd like to have some with someone that can watch me hit off grass.

Do you sometimes just feel like giving up Golf? There are times when I feel like it's not worth it. Having just shelled out so much to actually be able to play it feels a really sickening to not be able to even hit the ball anywhere near even an average strike. I feel like something fundamental is wrong. I feel after 18 holes like my back is done... Like I have an inefficient swing. It feels so hard on my body to play golf....but then when you hit 100+ a round that's a lot of shots I guess.

Winds were horrendous yesterday, managed to scramble together a 79(+8) which honestly felt like a victory! Hitting a 200y driver one hole, then a 160y pw the next was too much for me. I'll play in the rain but I despise the wind.

Out in a couple of hours for a easter monday round and hopefully a few pints after as the clubhouse hours have finally changed! Roll on summer.

Haha, you should have seen me hacking it around yesterday! Never feel like giving up though as always manage a few good shots.

Take yesterday. 1st hole hit a scratchy drive but was in the fairway and just far enough up to be off the downslope. Ditch runs across in front of the green so enforced carry if you go for it with your second shot. I.e. pressures on if you're an average golfer like me. Had ~155y to the middle down wind. Pured a 6i which finished just over the back of the green in the rough, delighted with the strike. Then take another four shots to get down and barely hit another decent iron all round, fat, thin you name it I could hit it . After struggling round to the 18th hit a similarly scratchy drive leaving me 165y uphill into wind over the corner of the dog leg. Stripe a glorious 7w over the trees to 12ft only to three putt.

Aside from a couple of nice drives and some ok pitching those two approaches were the only good shots I hit all round, sixteen holes apart! So don't worry, we all feel crap at times. The golf gods giveth and the golf gods taketh, without any rhyme or reason.

Only played 9 this afternoon but it was enough as I played terrible

Shanked my tee shot on the par 3 3rd hole, then topped a tee shot into the water on 4 and had another shank on the 6th

No idea how I shot 42 (par 35) still after the penalty and those shanks???

Playing again Saturday morning and hopefully sort things out before Close House

In case nobody has noticed it’s the Masters this week.
Eleven entries from the UK and the Republic of Ireland. It’ll be against the form guide if anyone from Europe wins it I would guess, but whom do you guys see as the favourites to be wearing the Green Jacket, next Sunday evening?

You been watching the pre event stuff? There was some junior events on, pitch chip and putt. Crazy how good amatuers are, i think out in the states colleges and schools push sports much more thwn in the uk

Wasn't planning to play today after 3 days on the trot, had a lovely lie in, did a tiny bit of work on the car, then got a text from a mate who probably shouldn't play with a dodgy wrist saying "The weather's too nice to not be playing golf", he was right of course so off we go to play Erlestoke :p

Only my second time playing the course, didn't score great but felt the game was still solid, another tight-ish course and probably not good at being sensible there, especially as my mate is a longer hitter than me so every drive was a driver and 110% to try and keep up (actually beat him a few times, big hitter me )

No card again and tbh I'm getting to like this, great weather, good laughs and zero cares that I wasn't scoring.

Did get one of those really annoying unlucky breaks, after a great drive I hit a poor second shot, 5 iron and just pushed it right and it was leaking too, hit a tree and should've been 'fine' but of course it bounced back and rolled into a ditch. Stoopid game. :p

I reckon Fitzpatrick stands a chance, given how he played in The Players and was it Valspar...

Aberg I'd like to do well but he seems to have the game but struggling with consistency/finishing these days, like McIlroy 2.0

Sheffler seems to have not been his best but can never rule him out. Same as McIlroy and Fleetwood (and others obviously)

Wouldn't it be great if Rose wins though after last year!

18 holes this morning....with a mate and his son...

Cruising - Level par thru 7 - easy golf, no drama......

then bad swing on 8, loose a ball right.... bad swing on 9, loose a ball right.....

Then par 10/11/12/13/14/15, the loose a ball right on 16th tee...

Par 17, bogie 18.

So +1 for 15 holes.... 3 lost balls on the other 3 holes....

What a game it is.....

I don't like saying it, but I think Rory will struggle this year

After last year it would be great to see Rose win it, but if any of the Europeans can win it would be good

If I had to pick an American, I would like to see Bhatia do well, but also Schauffele could have the game for it

Rory did have a back injury and pulled out of the Arnold Palmer weekend, but he hasn’t been playing well anyway. Fleetwood hasn’t hit last years form yet either.
Scheffler has been off the boil too, but he was distracted with the approaching birth of his second child.
For me Cameron Young may well be in with a shout.

I have backed Rahm, Young and Fitzy. So many good players out there at the moment though anyone could take it, especially with Scottie and Rory being really patchy.

However if either of those two turn up to play it'll be great. Part of me wants Rory to win it again. My heart really wants Rose to take it though. That would be the one for me.
