Good Bye Freedom, Hello Police State Britain.

We are no longer citizens who the government works for, but suspects who need to be watched and monitored. This is certainly not the way I want to be viewed by those who serve me......are some of you really that downtrodden to be happy with it?

The ultimate aim of any sane government would be to evnetually remove all CCTV and public survailence by building a better society where there is no requirment for it...

I am to busy enjoying my life to be worry about something like this, I am not a criminal, never have been never will so why waste my time and worry over something that is not going to have an impact on my life.

To quote Benjamin Franklin:

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Seriously, those who can't see how harmful such a massive national database could be have been living under a rock. For one thing, this government's proven time and time again that it can't be trusted with sensitive data. And besides, whose to say what kind of government could atain power in the future?

When will people learn that petitions never work?

Nor will a protest march.

Nor will a change of government.

The people doing this have too much personal interest invested to see it fail, think of the amounts of money invloved here for all involved. An assasination is needed as an object lesson, unfortunately everyone is so comftable behind their TV's and computers there is no one left with the will to do whats nesercary.

Meh, the government can get all the details that you are talking about anyway if they really wanted, would just take a little more effort.

:(

I am thinking of becoming a terrorist, is there some kind of Dummys guide anyone can recommend? :p

Terrorism isn't as big issue as they are making out, all this stuff is way over the top, it simply costs money and annoys people.

I wouldn't want to hit any civilian targets or kill myself, I am no silly mussa. Perhaps parlament or a police station.

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I was not a Jew.

When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

What benefit will you get from this database?

Phone calls are already listened to, also. Keywords picked up on etc i believe.

Although they are only meant to be test calls for engineers, it shows that anyone could be listening :eek:

If you truly believe this (I doubt you do 100% and are probably just forcing the point) then your utterly naive.

The thing is it really isn't going to stop anything, anyone who is thinking of commiting any serious crime will be able to get around it by encryption. suerly a simple bit of SSL would do the job. You can then make VOIP calls, browse any Jihadi websites you want.

It is possible they will pass a law requiring you to hand over your key but it can be disposed of easily.

It is just madness, I used to think the government honestly had our best intrests at heart but these days I am begining to wonder. They have possibly been misinformed that this will somehow work by the same tit that said Iraq had WMDs or they just make it up because for some reason most people are to stupid to care. Perhaps people do care but with his sham of a democracy we have it doesn't matter.

Monster raving loony party seem like the best ones to vote for.

v for vendetta ;)

The response to terrorism is greater than any perceived threat.

Against the IRA we were told to "Carry On As Usual", when it comes to agent provocateurs... I mean 'Muslim Jihadists' we should all panic and run around screaming and begging for the government to take away our rights. No thanks.

We've survived bigger and more evil threats than a rag-tag band of ignorant suicide bombers, so let's not let them win by saying yes to any of this rubbish.

A question;
My own experience of the recent terrorist events was not of terror but of how well handled it was by the emergency services. On 7/7 the cordons were erected quickly and the best was done to get people to safety and save lives.

Why should we feel terror when the best they can do is use a few bombs, and when the best we can do is get everything running like nothing happened a day later?

Exactly like the nazis, create a database of everything then make stuff illegal later and arrest everyone on the database, I'm sure that's what will happen.

Oh wait labour already did it...

I'm just glad I got my p&g sim card before this is implemented.

Why?

Give me your reasons why such a database would be a bad idea.

Other than "I dont want my details kept there"
Because no government has the right to spy on its citizens as a matter of routine. A government with too much power is a dangerous proposition indeed, far more dangerous than any terrorist group or organized crime.

This is a step too far in the wrong direction, and I don’t want to wake up one day to find out I should have spoken up sooner. We live in a mature and successful democracy and you have to ask yourself why a government of a country like ours distrusts its own people so much.
