Good Cheap Server - HP Proliant Microserver 4 BAY - OWNERS THREAD

Which missed bios is everyone using? (I've asked a couple of times, but no one's sharing!?)

Also, I'm thinking about signing up to WebsiteSpark for Server 2012... Anyone have any words of advice?

I have two of these with five drives each, running openmediavault. They are on 24/7 for three days a week, off for four days a week

Do you think these will be using a lot of power?

Somewhere around 100watts in total for both of them i'd imagine with all the drives are spun up.

WS 2012 seems to run very well on my backup microserver.

From reading the info, the license is for three years, but there are some conditions to meet... for example, I believe you need to publish or host your website before the first anniversary, and register is with the WebsiteSpark program.

I can cope with three years, because I typically update OS in that timeframe. I have also done some website work, having made a couple of websites for my parents' small business; however, am I a little more concerned about the requirement to 'deploy a web pro website'. Details below:

Membership Terms

Eligible Web development and design Companies and/or Individuals can participate in WebsiteSpark for up to 3 years. The members should maintain "Good Standing" through the term of the program.

Good Standing entails...

- Completing and updating profile information. On the first and second anniversary of initial enrollment, members must renew their enrollment (e.g. confirm they haven't gone public and their ownership hasn't changed).
- Compliance with program agreements.
- Deploy web pro website on Windows Azure Cloud or Windows Server by the first anniversary of the Web Pro’s enrollment in the Program.

 Just got WHS 2011 installed, then restart the machine and get to login...

"Press CTRL + ALT + DELETE to login"

I don't have a keyboard and the on-screen keyboard won't let me ctrl/alt/delete

You can also do it via remote desktop connection. Fire up another machine and go to "Remote Desktop Connection". Pop in the machine name or IP address and off you go.

I run my server headless 24/7.

Does anyone know if there's any issues with whs 2011 backing up Windows 8 machines? Just wondering whether I should upgrade my N40L to 2012 Essentials.

If the disk is partitioned as GPT instead of MBR then there will be an issue

If its MBR then no, you can fudge the connector to work on Win 8

I have just read some posts about the website spark program when it was first announced in 2009. They mentioned that there was a $100 fee payable at the end of the 3 year period and it wasn't clear if you had to pay this if you stopped using the program before the end of the free period.

Any website spark users able to clarify the cost commitment issue?

Will i be able to move 2 x 1TB drives in RAID0 ext3 drives from a Synology NAS to the N40L running FreeNAS and keep all the data intact?
