Good Cheap Server - HP Proliant Microserver 4 BAY - OWNERS THREAD

Just because sometimes its nice to have audio and video from two different sources playing at the same time, or use optical in a second zone while hdmi is feeding zone 1.

Think I'll get the msi, its a bargain!!! it will do sbs 3d im sure?

Question if i may, I have an N54L and one of the tasks i use it for is outputting an IP camera via a browser viewer. It chews about 50% of the CPU power. Will putting a 5450 graphics card in take some of the load of the cpu ?

Doubtful but for a £20 gamble it's worth a roll of the dice.

Lol fair enough guys, just wondered if outputting through hdmi rather than the onboard might lower the cpu usage. As you say £15 from ocuk will see me a 5450 so worth a shot i guess.

HDMI is irrelevant. It's down to the OS and the plugins the web browser interface uses.

If the mythical no-information CCTV browser supports something via the not-specified OS can accelerate on an AMD card then yep. Otherwise ... dunno.

I see the N54L is still available for £129 on PixMania. Worth a punt still? Their reviews don't seem great but I can't find it anywhere else for a decent price.

What will you be using it for?

Just file storage, Plex server and maybe RDP/Teamviewer to it for docs and stuff. I'd like to be able to push stuff to a tablet too.

Exactly what I use mine for. I'm still on stock 2gb ram and it runs W7 Pro, Plex server, Teamviewer, file storage and a few other things. Definitely needs more ram but it's a very capable system for the money.

One thing, I'd like to re use a 128Gb SSD from my desktop PC, but not sure if I can install Server 2012 Essentials on that size as the minimum specs are 160Gb. Has anyone done this?
