Good Cheap Server - HP Proliant Microserver 4 BAY - OWNERS THREAD

Hows the flashing BIOS done? I may have bought one last night and it'll be here Wednesday :p

Going to run FreeNAS with Plex service so it'll be a media server and for my files.

IIRC all you need is the files placed on a USB then boot from it and it will automatically complete the update and you just need to reboot it after a couple minutes and then do with it how you want.

Im still stuck on whether to get a raid card for mine and if so if I could get the drivers for it easily since it would be an ebay special HP410 so therefore no warranty/care pack access. So don't want to be left with an old firmware £100 paperweight.

Thanks for that :) Oh and also I've been told to put the IMG of FreeNAS On a USB and boot it through that 24/7 is that the correct thing to do?

I haven't used freenas before however if it bootable from a USB, which a quick google shows it is, I personally would as I currently do with my esxi installation.
 
Hi guys i am and Android guy and to access my episodes of various series on my microserver with my Android devices i just browse the windows file shares via BSPlayer or ES File Explorer and play the files in their native format. Whats apps do i need to duplicate the same usage on an iOS device or is it not possible?

I use media:connect or something on the iPad, it uses DLNA streaming with my Plex server and picks it up meaning I can then navigate and select what I wish. This was the best way on iOS I came across.
 
I ended up buying Infuse 3 a very slick app with a nice front end. Thanks for the suggestions though guys.

Has anyone tried the Club 3D Radeon R5 230 PCI EXPRESS x1 Graphics Card in a Microserver?

I've got a P410 in my x16 slot which I would like to retain. Anyone know if it would fit with something in the adjacent slot?

If not does anyone have any good links to cheap PCI-E x1 graphics card that will fit alongside another card?
 
Agh my N54L apparently is having issues. Diagnostics tell me one of my dual channel 4GB memory DIMMs has failed. Looking at my history I paid £21 for 2x4GB two years ago so I can't moan too much. Can anyone recommend me a replacement? This ageing memory has gone way up in price :(

These work. I've just removed mine from a N54L and put them on the For Sale forum :)
 
Can somebody recommend me a E-SATA to SATA cable they know that works with N54L, the one I've had knocking around for ages doesn't seem to work!
