good cider?

If I went to a pub tonight, that wasn't in the west country and therefore won't have things like Old Rosie, and I want a dry cider - like the Brut cidres you get in France, what can I order? I had a Magners once but it was awfully sweet and not to my tastes at all. Things like Strongbow, are they sweet?

A friend who drinks cider always recommends 'Orchard pig' for delivery at home, dunno if it is sold in pubs/bars.

Old Rosie comes highly recommended too.

Real ale for me but have tried Aspall on draught and found it refreshing; would only have one though before going back to ale.

I get my poison direct from Thatchers farm in Sandford, straight out of the huge oak barrels, a refill of my 5L container only costs me £7, either the sweet or the Cheddar valley for me.

Anyone who says Magners/Bulmers/Stella Cider is good needs a slap TBH

You sir, are the winner.

I always tend to go for Old Rascal.

I got a 2l bottle of Westons Scrumpy Cider and it was tasteless.

I want to try some Black rat but no where near sells it and its £15 for 2x500ml on their site??

Not a huge Cider drinker but Aspalls is nice on a warm afternoon (what is it with this current obsession of filling a whole pint glass with ice and then trying to fit some bloody cider in). :)

Ice has no place in a decent cider. These producers of crap cider (Magners / Bulmers etc) appear to have drilled it into people heads you need ice in your cider! They only need ice in their drinks to dilute the awful chemical sweetness taste. Same as all that Scandinavian alcopop masquerading as cider. I swear they are breaking the Trades Description Act. :@
