Good news for Scotland (and the rest of us)..

Every country has spies that just part of the game but we have MI5 / 6 to monitor them - Scotland wouldn't.

Then you add in Faslane which would either be closed and see Scotland kicked out of NATO or Faslane would remain UK territory but would have to bus in workers from England (as you can't have third country workers on a secure military site) no doubt with Russian financed infrastructure popping up in the vicinity.

There's practically zero chance of Scotland being kicked out of NATO since the Russian Invasion of Ukraine and I'd say there's little public sentiment for such a withdrawal either.
I'd always imagined Faslane would end up getting leased to the RUK for a period of time (25-30 years) and treated similar to say the RAF bases in Greece (RUK territory).

Lol so Scotlands idea of regaining sovereignty would be to give away large chunks to the US amongst others?

One other good thing about Sturgeon leaving is that the English media is likely to be as dismissive of her successor as they are of who ever it is that runs Wales. Sturgeon had a unique ability to irritate us, which the media loved pushing, but all the other SNP MP's are pretty much anonymous here.
Norway has US presence, Germany has US presence, Japan has... Sovereignty is always something to be bargained.

Given that 18 of the current NATO nations don't meet the 2% GDP spending on Defence Target and neither do Finland or Sweden who NATO are desperate to get in I don't see why Scotland would have an issue, especially considering the strategic importance of the North Sea / GUIK Gap

Think about the defence aspect. If scotland cant defend itself then someone can invade it. Then england has a land border to defend. Better off just invading scotland now than giving them independence.

This is true to a degree but it’s OUR problem though. We shouldn’t force Scotland to stay just because it makes the English defence prospects better.

In reality, I imagine any separation for defence will be phased over a very long period - existing arrangements are probably mutually beneficial.

So if Scotland hosts US military its its "giving away sovereignty" and from your inference a "bad thing" but the c10,000 US Military personnel based on 6 airbases in England isn't? That's some logic

Does seem that a supposedly 'independent' Scotland would be so dependent on others - begging the UK for defence, begging to stay in NATO, begging to get in the EU and begging the US for an air base..

The US bases in the UK are collaboration not because we cant protect ourselves.

No idea what sevco is.

I don't want another brexit type destruction of our economy so we can feel "british" or "scottish", go watch a movie instead.
You don't want that? It's inevitable with the state of Labour/Tories as well as any potential competition as they too are populist, NIMBY botherers.

Sounds like you could do the conga with the Sevco Scots in George Square?

Hillarious an actual deployment of the 'no true Scotsman trope' but in real life with a bit of football based intercine rivalry thrown in for good measure, that originates from a football team whose players and supporters themselves originate from another country.
